Even better still, why not go the RB26 in the s14? ;) How much will the engine transplant cost? Cos if you're short of $$$ it may be better off modifying the SR20 to reach 500hp...because it's just as equally capable. But then I think the s14 didn't come with the SR20 over there, is that right?

No RB26..cause it's a bit too $$$ for me right now, worst case if I blow the RB25DET in 2 years, I might put a RB26 back (I will have the trany, the mount...everything ready for it!)

I had a SR20DET before(that I got from Japan...but it lasted 1 year) And all my friend swap their SR20DET once or twice a year (pushing 350 to 400HP) So I want to have something I don't swap all the time, this is why I'm puting a RB25DET in there!

I expect to spend ~ 12 000 $ Can on the swap with upgrade (almost 12 000$ Aus)

  2. It wasn't too hard to install... water pump here, water reservoir there.... and almost no piping! (this change from front mount to water/air was incredible, just cause of the piping lenght, my power band changed a lot! , no more low end torque, but much more top end! I had to dial the cam gear for less overlapping, to get back some low end torque)

I'm not sure, but it's almost sur that it's sold allready, I sold that:

    water/air intercooler 16" X 4" > water pump (5year waranty)> Water reservoir aluminium> 2 X cooler 8" X 12" for 1000$ Canadian > almost 1000$ Aus

I upgraded my intercooler when I put 2530's on my GTR.  With the standard cooler I got 280hp at all 4 wheels at 1.1 bar.  With the new HKS cooler (600 x 300 x 103) I got 320hp at all 4 on slightly higher boost (1.15).   The dyno showed around 40hp gain right across the range from around 4000rpm right to redline.   I know guys who are getting 400hp at the rears with stock FMIC's so you can get good numbers, but I wonder what they would get with a bigger cooler?????

    Something to think about anyway...

    Brett

That's exactly why I asked about the flow... cause even if it can do it...it doesn't mean that it's doing efficiently.

How big is the diameter of the piping on the HKS kit? and how big was the stock?

I guess that you have a bit more lag with the HKS, is it noticeable?

  4. I know that it's big...but bigger doesn't always mean better...

I have seen very big intercooler, done with cheap core and ugly square end tank...

This is why I want to make sure of all that before I buy it, I can get one used for 500$ Can, which is very close to 500$ Aus... it seem a good price, no?

    The best place is Ebay.com

There is a lot of these ECU for sale (at least 3 to 5 per week), some went for 38 $ US, and the last one I missed went for 43$ US...

If people don't want to ship it to Australia, I could have it ship here in Canada, then ship it back to you :)

Sorry but I don't read japanese....

I have an eprom programmer, eprom eraser...and all that, I have been tuning SR20DET in Montreal(Canada) for almost a year now...

I can get a 300ZX ECU for less than 100 Aus...and then reprogram it... so paying 100$ for something I can't retune doesn't make sense to me.

Did the R32 RB20DET had the VTC too ? if so I can probably buy on of these (cause the have eprom on board) and tune that?

I would prefer a RB ECU for only one reason, they have 2 knock sensor input...and the 300 ZX only has 1....

  7. I have a PWR Water/Air intercooler that I was using with my SR20DET before it blew....

Now that I'm swapping a RB25DET...should I keep it or sell it with the water pump, cooler, reservoir... to get a big front mount?

The Water/Air was good with Ice in the reservoir for 1/4 mile...but was a bit more warm for normal driving...

It was the 5" core X 12" (I think) so the long one with the 2.5" inlet and outlet.

Does anyone here have hear bad or good thing about it (if my goal is 500HP max(at the crank), and will run ~350-400HP daily)

  8. I will reprogram a 300ZX ECU for my RB25DET / Silvia, cause I can't find a R33 one(I live in Canada), and cause I can't reprogram R33.

So my question is, what are the stock timing map like?

I guess it will be very close to RB20DET , does it make sense?

I already got the RB20DET...but I would prefer to make sure that they are like RB25DET.

Also, does anybody as the firing order for RB25DET ? (I have to compare with a 300ZX engine..if there are not the same, I will switch injector and coil pack wiring.

  9. The first number (IE 12:1) is the number of air part per fuel!

    So 20:1 = a lot of air...> LEAN

    & 10:1 = much less air, therefore> Rich

20:1 is the "leanest" mixture that a Wideband O2 sensor can read, and 10:1 is the "richest"

Ideal A/F for Non turbo car is 14.7 Stoik ratio....

And for a Turbo car ~ 13:1 almost stock

And ~ 11:1 for modified Turbo engine that want to run on the safe side!

  10. If I want ~ 450 to 475 Crank HP on a RB25DET with the these upgrade:

    Exhaust cam gear

Metal head gasket 1.6 mm (to lower CR to ~ 8.5)

    3" exhaust

    Water/Air intercooler

    Water injection

    T3/T4 , GT30 or GT25R Not sure yet...

Is it necessary to have a external one? I know that for high boost it's much better..but if I plan to boost 20 psi max (1.35 bar) Do I need it?

If I go for external...is there any company that make manifold for RB25DET without spending too much ? (which one do you recomend?)
