  1. Yeah I spoke with them on Thursday and was told fri or mon it should be ready. Haven't heard a word yet although i am in Japan so not sure if this is barring calls. I know don't believe it has anything to do with dotars delays. It's more to do with workshops taking more cars than they can handle!

They always blame DOTARS if they cant keep up of if there plate alocation has run out.

  3. $1700 for a tune? Under the assumption it would already have a base map that is a joke, even if it was a unique setup with motor, vehicle and fuel it still would be costly, especially for a generic car that most workshops tune all the time with standard upgrade mods. $350-$500 would be a ball park figure for tune which is a few hours labour. We don't know the extend of your tune or exisiting possible problems of the vehicle but that is 8-9 hours labour on the dyno, would have required to go refill at BP lol

I've had two friends who have being in the scene for several years use there services for a tune with a pretty average financial experience. PM for details.

The joke is how people can make comments on this forum through this thread but not get blasted/deleted it seems because they are SAUWA SPONSORS,

The expert key board warriors who have no knowledge or proper business experience need to keep there stupid comments to them self.

  4. Get a Porsche Cayenne as there is no trouble selling cars like that especially with the amount of high end Euro cars coming out of the UK.

I just pitted a 2008 997 and before it was even registered I had guys I know hitting me up to see if the owner wanted to sell.

At least the Cayenne doesn't look like a Hyundai.

  5. Another issue is if you purchase an interstate car and you only have a WA licence once the vehicle crosses the border into WA it isn't registered any more, another one of the lovely WA rules. People buy a car sometimes and drive it back not knowing it is unregistered once they cross the border.

Same as some import dealers are registering cars in NSW for a day or two after selling then sending over to WA thinking they can cut corners. It makes no difference at the pits as you need to own the car for over 12 months to avoid an inspection.

So the car people are driving around for a couple of weeks on NSW plates till they find time to get to the pits being un-registered it is not insured even with that over the phone cover note.

Unfortunately for the people bringing the cars over it isn't a well know fact till they get pulled over.

  6. Why would the DPI be on to all that? All the car has to be, is legal, when it goes over the pits.

I took my Chaser over the pits with a catback exhaust, 17" wheels & coilovers when it was registered for the first time. This was about 15mths ago.

I understand that for compliance it must be stock to be signed off, but getting it registered, I know it doesn't because my Chaser wasn't.

DPI are onto it and many other things because they have been told what to check by DOTARS, they give briefs when they visit after the pieces of crap coming from over east.

A vehicle is not to be modified from time of compliance till registration, when the car goes over the pits it is to be same as what workshop signed it off at.

People know it doesn't always happen but that is a risk now the workshops are less likely to take just to give some stranger a break on cost's.

  7. I have just imported a 1996 R33 GTS25t 5spd Sedan. It had a couple of minor susp mods, R32 GTR seats & wheels and some body bracing and stuff. It was a factory manual too.

Car was 440,000FOB which at the time as just over $5200 AUD. I paid this which got the car on a boat, and heading towards Perth.

Tomorrow the car will head to the compliance shop. The compliance cost is $2600 AUD.

With suspension it will have to be standard, R32 GTR seats & wheels can be done if the workshop is prepared to do the correct paperwork, out of interest who is doing it.

DPI are onto new charcoal canisters and new cats fitted so get the local workshop to pit pass it if they are leaving out things to get the price down.

    440,000 FOB is cheap.

  8. Hey,

I'm looking for some information regarding importing a car made between 1960 and 1975. It will be LHD but that doesn't matter as i am in W.A

Does the car have to standard ?

FYI the car is a Fiat 500

It isn't to bad at all, PM me your contact details as I sign off on pre 89's for Dept of Transport so I have all the info on had.

  9. What if the purchase price of the vehicle overseas is still cheaper than the valuation over here after taking depreciation into account? Can you still choose to use the lesser of the two?

The purchase price of the vehicle is the base of the valuation, depreciation isn't a factor now when working the price out for customs.

The use of depreciation was suppose to cease over 2 years ago officially according to customs.

  10. Thank you for the answers. My Audi already has Isofix hooks for the rear window seats.

Will I have to pay GST and possibly the Luxury Car Tax on my personal import ? If so, based on what value, since I purchased the cars years ago ?

Indeed I plan on selling the cars before I eventually leave Australia but that should be years away.

The correct way on working out a valuation of a vehicle for the purpose of a landed costs value is based on the cost of the vehicle at time of purchase and exchange rate at time of purchase, insurance and shipping plus other incurred costs getting the vehicle here.

This is how I valued a few personal imports this year as per the GUIDE TO THE VALUATION OF IMPORTED ROAD VEHICLES.

  11. Chalker Cosworth?

They dont have approval no one does, it was under the old scheme over here in Perth from one guy for Australia.

You will see on there website "expected early December 2004" so a bit behind unless it is a pre 89.

  12. It isn't sourcing it is "Cut and Paste", dont know about your pricing just an extra 1,000 pounds for FOB fee but comment below on website is bothering.

"Is this car eligible for import?

Yes, we have checked this car and it is a model eligible for import under the SEVS compliance laws.

We have also allowed $4500 for compliance, which is a reasonably typical compliance price available for this particular model."

Have a look DOTARS LINK I dont see Ford Escorts on any workshops list as approved to comply.

  13. I can help you to get a r34gtt if you want.I have good reputed auto agent in japan and I do personal imports

There are enough trained monkeys and rocket scientists in the industry so join them if you want just abide by the SAU business trading guide lines.

  14. ^^^ i think that with many RAWS - employing trained monkeys IS the case... that would explain why so many compliance things get "forgotten" about!! :P

    e912cc31-13aa-4f3c-ad77-4b6237db3e0f.jpg

So these days $2,200 must me the going rate for a bag of peanuts.

It is still always repeated "you pay for what you get".

  15. Planning on moving to Australia (NSW) in summer 2012 with wife and kid.

    Can you confirm my understanding:

    1. I can bring under Personal Import just 2 of my 4 vehicles (one per adult)

    2. None of them could be imported under SEV, so I will have to leave behind the other 2

    3. Those I choose to bring in, might require some modifications for registration

Assuming a large enough budget, would you recommend I bring in instead a high value RHD car (Aston, Ferrari...) and sell it upon arrival ?

    Cheers,

    Nic

Your cars will require barely any mods, RX7 will require Child Restraints as JDM ones are not fitted but a trained monkey can fit them to an RX7 they are that easy. Audi should have "facilities" to fit Child Restraints which is the minimum requirement rest is nothing, Honda isnt a issue at all as no rear seats. Look on websites like www.carpoint.com.au to see retail value of your cars when it comes time to choose, or look now as you might find something worth buying.

For high end stuff people I know doing it are buying out of the UK as people dont seem to trust the servicing standards in Japan, Ferrari's are bad enough especially when not looked after.

One thing to remember there is a push to make a requirement for Personal Imports to be owned for a minimum of 2 years, not saying it will happen just keep it in the back of your mind.

Same people pushing that one car to be imported every 2 years under SEVS by non dealers, dont know why two years but that is what they tell the government.
