  1. DIY I say - I did mine, with a bit of common sense and a willingness to learn its pretty simple :P

    Absolutely!!

I have done numerous RB timing belts and a few others. The Gates belts have lines on the. If you point the dowels on the cams up and set the bottom end to TDC then line up the belt marks with the punch marks.

Of course its VERY important not to turn the bottom end independent of the cams, otherwise the valves will hit the piston tops and bend, if that hasnt already happened. The way around this, remove the cams so the valves arent depressed, easy.

  2. i jsut came across it on Ebay so I ran a search on here to avoid reposting...

I figured the initial reactions would be like the ones posted above but has anyone actually tried these?? Or can give good (technical) reasons why these ARE crap?

    just curious

    Flow rates mostly.

Its hard to prove they are shit when theres so few specs available on them.

    Information like this isnt useful:

"Will it generate boost throughout the entire rev range?

The Generation 1 will generate boost in all applications up to 5ltrs"

So if you have a 5L it might flow enough air to make 1 psi. Whoopy doo. It might be useful for low end gains which are always handy on a street car.

If I said i sold a "Universal" turbo id be laughed out of the industry since its well known that not just any snail will do. So why should this be any different?

  3. try ovaboost in malaga about 5 minutes away from hyperdrive .... mate had his RB20 with R33 turbo tuned there with the S AFC made 230 rwhp i think something like that.

Top Racing just moved into their new shop, definately worth speaking to.

  4. I like stuff. Do you like stuff?? Some peope REALLY like stuff.

Man that ate up part of my quota! Damn. Tho i did have to watch it twice to make sure i didnt like it.

Why is that stickied? And where exactly is it from?

EDIT: My bad, its not stickied at all.

  5. howdy all. I was just under my dash adjusting my clutch when i noticed a couple of switches attached to the tops of the peddles. one on the accelerator and one on the clutch. since i have had a manual conversion done, the one on the clutch is not connected but there is a plug next to it that will fit it. does anyone know what they are for?? :P

Clutch could be/have been for cruise control. It would cut the cruise when pressed.

The one for the accelerator is most likely the old kick down switch for the auto.

  6. Just for the record..

I spun the input bearing with 170rwkW RB30ET on an RB30 (same as RB20) gear box. Mind you it was a 300K Km box and my spiggot bush failed.

    Hyper31 (R31POWER) smashed 2nd gear teeth off with his 200rwKw RB20DET.

Seeing how this second one holds up to 212kw. :D

  7. is there sumthing i can set it on to start with or shuld i just install it and not hook up the wires to change the A/F Ratio.

Initialse the unit, select your AFM etc and make sure that all the corrections are set to 0%, that way it wont affect the base map.

Or for super-mega-extra power set them all to at least -20%. (NOT)

  8. I have used the "blue Smurf" in 2 RB20/30 gearboxes now, boht after developing synchro issues.

The first one spat the mail bearings after 15K Km of use with the red line stuff, but i blame that almost enitrley on a failed spiggot bush.

The second gearbox has only just had it put in, and had immediate improvement.

My 3rd gearbox, which is in another car has Castrol MTX gear oil in it. It is 1/4 of the price and has worked just as well as the blue smurf. It is listed as a motorbike oil, and is quite thin however i was told it was still suitable for this application. My only concern is that the bearings may not love it, but it hasnt been in there long enough to tell. Just another option if your looking for a quick cheap fix.

    Brent.
