  1. Didn't think about the other side of that, i.e. any transmission problems are probably a blessing in disguise for Nissan Australia given the new car warranty is serving a purposeful advantage over the JDM models.

Yeah i can see where you guys are coming from but i would have thought if this was a recall issue it'll be coming from nissan japan. Id like to think that nissan gives a shit about their reputation globally, especially regarding their golden child.

    I guess time will tell.

  2. GT-Ricer my condolences to your friend. Id be mighty pissed off, but also relieved the problem will be rectified.

Certainly i would imagine all of us with these cars who havent had any issues would be getting pretty nervous about the possibility of failure.

Mines only just done over 3000 ks so i can definately see how frustrating and annoying that would be.

In saying that as a general rule, cars that are going to have problems generally do earlier rather than later.

I wonder if anyone knows in real numbers how common this is.

Certainly the transmission failure in the us seemed to be blown out of proportion and from what i could tell was largely related to excessive LC on the series I.

The other thing im thinking is if this is a Martin says, a matter of time when it fails, then should't sorry let me rephrase that, doesnt Nissan have a responsibility to recall all GTR's to correct a design flaw?

  3. Thanks GUNR35, one other issue with the car is that the bumper color and body color don't seem to match 100% especially on white cars? The dealer said the factory used the same paint on the plastic and metal, but it looks like they put the 2009 bumpers on the 2010 cars. Any thoughts?

Thats a curly one, the white we received was the update colour for the my2010 model (released in 09, just to confuse everyone) as far as im aware, along with that we got the modified launch and a few extra hp. This colour has sl more creme in it, its more like a pearl white as far as im aware.

I cant see why the bumpers should be a different colour, this has been the same since the release in april 09 for aust

the new update i think is avail in japan from 7th dec, im not sure we have got the update yet, i thought it was coming to oz next year.

your dealer should rectify all, if they dont they answer to nissan aust. My experience with the dealers is that they generally comply pretty closely with nissan oz recommendations so warranty normally pretty good.

  4. Hi guys, just took delivery 2 weeks ago, a white one. I have noticed that the plastic seal beteen the roof and the panel above the driver's side window isn't fitting 100%.

I took it back to the dealer and noticed that the other car in the show room has the same problem.

Do any of you have the same problem?

    Cheers

It sounds like a similar problem to what i had, the drivers side strip, bw roof and window seem to be popping in and out, I took it to nissan, they were really good about it.

Apparently the strip needed to be replaced. Also they told me that the panel above the window, isnt fitting right, needs new clips.

They have replaced the strip (they had a gunmetal strip sourced from melboure), i am happy with the fitting.

Still waiting for the clips to arrive, who knows when their coming, not so much an issue.

Waiting for clips to come from Japan, its been almost a month so far.

    I hope this helps,

  5. Thanks guys for your input,

no doubt this is partly a money making scam from nissan probably to recoup some of that money for the price they sell their "cut price supercar"

whilst i have considered long and hard to go to nissan australia and kick up a fuss i am almost certain there is not point.

I think as most of you guys have suggested the best option is to go aftermarket which is what i will do with aftermarket pads

    thanks again guys :)

  6. I would appreciate your thoughts on this guys.

I too went out recently to a track day at mallala.

Car just run in at 3000 ks,

did the pre and post track inspection

got a call from the nissan service manager, apparently the pads are showing signs of "heat soak"

    recommend ...

yep changing the pads and the rotors ,

and yeah im up for 12 grand

I was adament that this is unacceptable , given the car is barely run in, is marketed as a everyday supercar and has new rotors. I have followed all nissans running in procedures and certainly cooled the car appropriately with a couple of cool down laps

He agrees but his hands are tied?

nissan refuse to change brake pads only,

    service elsewhere voids my warranty

i said what warranty, brakes are not covered

    whats the point?

    Your f*ed either way

    any thoughts?

ive read the other threads and am aware of the issues other guys had, so its no surprise, still its no easier

  7. 2 seaters? Can I ask your source on this?

Just test drove an ADM... boy...

FTG Nissan - 183k drive away Premium Gun Metal.

Funny thing is if you accidentially switch your traction control off (which would be VERY easy to do, it's right near the suspension change knob) then your warranty is void. So much for local support.

Just to clarify a point ,

there is a misonception out there that as soon as you turn the traction control off, the warranty is void.

The car doesnt lose the warranty by the flick of a switch.

What the warranty states is explicit instructions regarding the appropriateness of turning the traction control off which is if stuck in snow or mud.

Now if you chose to drive the with the traction control off and then for some reason damage the drivetrain. If that was directly attributed to your driving whilst " the traction control is off" then yes, chances are Nissan would reject your drivetrain warranty.

In saying that its not easy to turn off the traction control accidentally, you need to hold it down for a couple of seconds.

  8. Hey guys,

Trying to weigh up the pros and cons of each option.

    ADM

Local Nissan dealer support on parts

    Immediate delivery

    Easier insurance

More expensive to buy initially - suffers greater depreciation

    Easier to finance / novate

    More choice of colours

    JDM

Possible higher annual insurance x years of ownership

    Saving on ADM price

    Waiting for import process

Extra features (?) - voice recognition (does that even work here?)

'Black' spec option / additional Titanium colour (which I don't like anyway)

Nissan Australia denying access to parts (although last time I needed them I ordered parts direct from Nissan Japan on my R34).

    A few Japanese labeled buttons

Did someone say auto-wipers and auto-headlights?

Obviously this isn't a complete list. What else am I missing? Still learning about the R35.

    David.

yeah not to mention no warranty with JDM.

Though that doesnt seem to be even worth much these days from what i gather.

JDM Spec are speed limited ?, though modding not an issue (warranty i mean)

AS i understand the JDM SPEC was mainly the first spec, rather than the update, though i could be wrong on this one.

AS far as nissan working on JDM, they will not period.

Funnily enough they are happy to work on the v35 skylines ? figure that one out.

Also my understanding is that you cant import the gtr any further , you can buy whats in the country and thats it.

JDM has GPS , which works in oz?

AS far as immediate delivery , i can only speak from my own experience. I waited approx 4 M for mine,

only got it earlier as a friend who ordered the same spec, delayed his order.

Titanium colour as far as im aware is not available anymore

certainly i would expect the jdm to be slightly cheaper, not sure by how much

after taxes the gtr adm new (premium) is around 175 from memory

  9. Welcome to SAU Nick...

Im sure your time spent here will inspire you to become more attached to you purchase to the point where it feels like a child...

Also im sure you will find the pages and pages of info very handy and you'll save a few bucks along the way...

    Enjoy your stay!

Thanks guys, i look forward to learning lots and hopefully contributing some valuable information myself.

In regard to my previous cars. I used to have an s15 spec r, my most recent car prior to the r35 is an anniversary model rx8

With regards to how ive found the r35.

Well i can only comment within the confines of everyday driving and the limitations that it brings.

The gearbox is noisy which is expected and well documented,

the car is of a high quality.

My biggest impression is how easy the car is to live with on a daily basis. Miss daisy could drive it and not know of its enormous power.

I must say its acceleration is phenomenal. Having driven relatively fast cars and having read all the reviews. I thought i had a grasp of its acceleration, but i was wrong. ITs just blistering.

One thing that i wasnt prepared for , was the amount of attention that the car receives, guys with their mobile phones trying to take happy snaps, people changing course to follow the car, stopping at the servo.

cant complain just didnt expect such a turnout.

Not much else to say about the car, my main concern is its reliability, mixed reports of issues with gearboxes. Given the level of technology stuffed in the car, i guess theres alot more that can go wrong.

Given im still in the early stages of running the car in, i mainly drive it in auto, though i have played with the manual a bit. Im not sure how crucial the running in process is. Im sure i would have temporarirly revved past 3500 rpm in my first 500ks, (and the nissan dealers failed to describe the running in process to me, despite me explicitly asking them -found it in the manual of course),

The ride is very easy to live with, im not sure what all the hoo ha was about. Its certainly no stiffer than my 200sx in standard mode, i can barely tell the difference in comfort mode.

    Hope that helps.

The weathers been so crap and raining most days, looking forward to a sunny weekend soon to take some nice pics,.

thanks again guys for the warm welcome.
