  1. Thanks mate. Learn how to pan on a slow shutter speed something like 1/50-1/60. These shots require a lot of stability when shooting so practice and then practice some more. i tend to focus on the headlight closest to you. Oh and your camera will also help. Eg my 5dII wont take a shot like this but my 1DII will because of smarter AF.

BTW vote for me plsss :):) http://www.targawest...=219&source=top

Voted! Ok cheers for that, I will give it a go. It is damn hard haha. I recently got myself a 7D, so I am still getting used to all the new features.

  2. One of my favorite shots from todays Targa West on the Perth Foreshore.

skyliner85 how the hell do you get shots like this?? I was trying forever to get it to work, how did you get so much of the car in focus? Shots like this are still very new to me, so I have far more useless shots over ones I kept.

P.S This is a beautiful shot!!

  3. Just a quick question, this canon 50mm here.

I can get this for $98 brand new from a store with 1 year warrenty. good value or not?

Yes this is "Nifty Fifty" that GoldZilla was refering to in his post above, I have this lens and it has been on my camera more than any of my other lenses. It is a great lense for the costs, you have seen the review of it on 'The-Digital-Picture' so you know what you are paying for. It is a great place to start off. So I guess I am saying... BUY IT. :P

  4. Nice job on the 1100D, its a nice place to start with. One of my friends had the 1000D, his only problem with it was that he quickly found that he couldnt get the kind of quality that he was looking for so he upgraded to the 550D. I would have recommended going for the 600D, but each to their own. Try investing in some decent glass as you will be able to use it long after you replace your current camera body. All the best and have fun, photography is an awesome hobby

  5. That sucks man! I feel your pain. One of the ladies at work locked her keys in her car and got RAC to get into the car to get the keys, when the RAC guy got into the car he opened her door right into my drivers side door. Leaves a nice mark when her car is white and mine is black. Was able to polish most of it out.

But then about 3 weeks later someone at work or the gym opened thier door into my car, took the paint all the way down to the primer!

  6. I am blown away everytime I look into these photography topics!

I recently got back from a trip to the philippines and singapore and took a $h!t load of photos. I am still trying to sort out what I want to keep and what to delete.

  7. No worries

That sucks that you had to pay for a belt replacement you didn't need but better safe than sorry. Unless you got it done for free under a warranty or something in which case, :D

Haha nah unfortunately i had to pay for the replacement. oh well. :P

  8. Hi Guys I was giving my engine bay a quick clean today and noticed this sticker:

    IMG_2162.jpg

I realise that the 1st 2 lines say something along the lines of "replace timing belt at 100,000kms" or something like that.

What I want to know is what the third line says?

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers.

  9. I didn't think the rain would last very long, so I stood there trying to wait it out. Needless to say, both my camera and I got very wet. Thank god for weather sealing! :ninja:

For the panning shots, get a decently long lens (150mm or more) set your camera to Tv (shutter speed priority mode) then set your shutter speed to somewhere around 1/150th of a second. Set your cameras focusing mode to continuous/sports/servo and then as the cars drive past, pick a spot on the car (I usually use a headlight or door mirror) and try to pan with the car keeping a focus point over that part of the car. Then, pick and choose your shots (don't just machine gun for the whole pass or your camera will probably struggle to get good focus and you'll find it hard to track the motion smoothly).

When I'm feeling brave (or I'm using a lens with IS) I'll go as far as 1/60th of a second, but usually I find myself hanging around 1/100th.

Awesome, Ill give that a try next time :)

Yeah I know the rain was nuts, im just glad my jacket kept the water back. Other wise my camera would be ruined haha.

  10. Levi those are some awesome shots, I was there on sunday also. It was a great day until the rain came down... must say I got rather wet. :mrt: Ive recently gotten my hands on a dslr and had a go at some of the motion blur shot.... I have a long way to go to get anywhere near shots like yours :D

  11. Thanks for the explanation guys. That might have come in handy over the last 2 days. I drove my car home from Melbourne on Tuesday night, Wednesday morning went to collect the mail and put my foot down (not heaps) without thinking (RWD+Heavy Rain= Spin)and was shocked (I've been driving FWD's now for the last 3 months while waiting for my BMW to be fixed)

Yeah I remember how much I was freaking out when I first drove my r34 in the wet, gave to the beans on a straight stretch of road and had the back kick out on me. :( haha
