  1. I've got the same problem. If I remove the boot trimming will I be able to to manually open it from there? Is it as easy as pushing a button or does it take some fiddling around? Btw, is the boot trimming easy to remove? Anything I should be aware of before doing it? Thanks.

  2. there's a small plastic rod that pops out when the car locks to keep the cap in place when you lock the doors, the motor may have seized.

Take it to a nissan service place

otherwise I don't imagine it would take too much force to pop it free using a thin flathead but you might do damage if you're not careful

Yeah it sounds like the motor is dying. I read somewhere that you can pop it open from the boot but not sure how to go about doing this. I'm really low on fuel which it makes it so much harder..

  3. Hi there,

While driving yesterday (35 C heat) the coolant started to leak through the hood of the car. When I had a look it was boiling and vaporizing.

The first symptom seemed to be when the A/C temperature although on the lowest stopped being cold and then I also noticed the temperature gauge go all the way to 'H'.

I've currently got water in in the coolant tank.

About 2 years ago I had the same problem. I believe a radiator flush fixed the issue.

I'm just wondering why is this happening again. Is it expected? or is the problem more serious?

    thanks..

  4. Hi There,

I got a nissan 350gt (v35). Recently I took it for a service and the mechanic came back with the following feedback:

    1. Auto transmission oil discoloured brown. (I believe its meant to be red?)

    2. Both front lower rear link arms inner bushes worn - Large Bush on subframe

    3. Slight power steering oil leak from Pinion seal

Now i'm wondering how severe this is and how soon should i get it fixed. And does anyone know how much it would roughly cost?

    Any comments are appreciated.

  5. Hi guys,

So the passenger side power window appears to have malfunctioned. turns out the auto lock doesn't work either. Spoke to a mechanic a while ago who said i need to get an actuator.

    Is this easy to source?

Is this also the reason the power window is not working?

My biggest worry is that the window doesn't come up and its stuck all the way down :/

    Was wondering:

Can any mechanic/service station fix this?

Does it take time to source parts?

Does anybody know of a place to fix it in South Eastern suburbs in Melbourne?

I have seen a DIY guide floating around but i don't think i'm tech savvy enough to do it myself.

    Appreciate any info!

    thanks!

  6. you need to get all of the air out of your coolant system. it involves filling up your radiator, letting the car get to operating temperature and revving the engine to about 3000rpm every now and then while still keeping the coolant topped up. you need to keep an eye on the temperature, making sure it doesnt overheat.

you need to be doing all of this while the heater is on full heat @ full fan speed. when it seems like its not releasing any more air, close the radiator cap, let it idle for a little while then crack the bleeder nut which is at the highest point of the cooling system.

if its your first attempt i suggest searching 'how to bleed cooling system'. or get it to a mechanic to sort out.

this has the potential of doing a bit of damage if temps get too high so be careful and dont be afraid to turn the car off if you feel like the temperature is getting too hot.

hey thanks for all that info.

i did go see a mechanic today. we tried running the heater on to verify the sloshing sound but nothing happened. because its intermittent and the mechanic couldn't hear it, he asked me to come

back if the coolant runs low (?). i mentioned bleeding the coolant but he said that he can't confirm anything at this point.

would you recommend getting a another mechanic to check it out?

    thanks!

  7. if you arent leaking water, it means you havent bled your coolant system properly. the sound you're hearing is the water moving around in the air gaps inside the heater core. bleed your coolant properly and it should go away.

hey thanks, yup there's nothing leaking atm.

i'm new to all this. is bleeding the coolant easy to do? what does it involve doing?

    thanks a lot.

  8. hey i haven't really tested it. what is it meant to smell like? i'll try it and get back to you.

i called nissan service center and they said they won't look at it cos its an import, something about how they're computers won't sync with mine :(

i called my dealer skyimports in melbourne and they said they'll have a look on tuesday.

is it still ok to drive it around? how severe is the problem? i clearly dunno much about this.

    thanks a lot btw.

the air con doesn't smell or anything but i had a look at the coolent and its almost empty...

  9. Is it still losing coolant? Sounds like maybe the heater box is leaking coolant into the ducting.

Can u smell coolant with the heater or aircon on?

  10. Hey, i've got a 2003 skyline v35. a couple of months back when it was about 40 degrees the coolent started to boil and spurted out which created havoc with the air con. ever since every now and a again when i start the car i hear this

water sloshing sound in front of the dashboard. anybody know why this happens? or experienced this before?

any advice on what i should do?

    thanks a lot.

  11. 100,000 service is around $850 was the quote i got, but i sold the car before 100,000KM, Never heard of V35 timing belt good for 200,000, not sure if that is a chance you would want to take !!!!

the trader told me it was a 'timing chain' which only needs to be changed at 200,000 kms.

  12. Hi i'm relatively new to all this.

I've recently had a lot of interest in a 2003 V35 with about 94,000 kms on the dash.

A few people told me when it reaches 100k's it's going to need a timing belt change that's going to cost around 1000,

and some kind of special transmission oil that must be imported from japan, costing another 1000.

They have also told me that the seals on this car are extremely bad, and need constant refitting as they leak profusely.

Does anybody know anything about this, or the general maintenance costs of owning one of these?

Any input would be extremlyyyy helpful.

    Cheers

Hi there, i've got the same type of car and a very similar query.

when i purchased the car i was told that this car has a timing chain and it only needs to be replaced after 200,000 kms. I believe the fluid is transmission fluid cos i heard the same thing.

don't mean to hijack your post but i was wondering if anybody knew of places to service this car in Melbourne, preferably in the SE suburbs?

    thanks.

  13. Thats a myth. I've run 20% Toluene, many other additives. Not a single problem.

As for the OP, Id find a service station with BP98, Shell 98, or Caltex 98. They may cost you a few dollars more, but I bet you go more kms too.

well are there any adverse effects from pumping 95 octane fuel? cos i've been using that for a while now...and is it ok to mix 95 and 98..?

  14. VSD = traction control in those models.

So, if you put your foot down hard from say a set of lights, your car will try to stop your wheels from spinning if its set to on. Also helps out in wet weather when loosing traction is more likely to occur.

this might be a stupid question but i shall ask anyway, does that consume more fuel? as in if i leave it switched on at all times..?

  15. E10 has up to 10% ethanol in it.

Unless your fuel system is designed to cope with it, dont use it. It chews away at rubber and plastic within the fuel systems.

As above.. not a good idea.

so just to clarify 95 octane is (at a minimum) the right fuel for me? lol i think i'm willingly confusing myself..

  16. No I would certainly not use it. I would only use 98 octane fuels.

On the shell website it also says:

If your vehicle manufacturer recommends a minimum 95 octane then Shell V-Power may be a more suitable fuel.

If they dont recommend it for cars that recommend 95 octane, I certainly wouldnt use it on cars that recommend 98 octane fuel.

Also, my experience using the old 100 octane shell fuel which also contained 10% ethanol was it got considerably worse fuel economy until you had it tuned for it.

well i'm currently using 95 octane cos its premium unleaded? i guess i'll keep to it..

  17. Hi Guys,

so i just bought a skyline v35 from trader who advised me that i can use the

    Shell Unleaded E10 fuel type.

does anybody here recommend this? the fuel cap says 'premium unleaded only'

and the shell website says 'shell Unleaded E10 has a minimum 94 octane rating'

is this ok? i don't know much about this stuff but hopefully you guys can help!

    cheers!
