  1. Hi guys, I've been trying to figure out what's happening with my 2002 250GT and so far this is what I've been able to find using the NDS2 software.

Fuel pressure reads about 6.8 - 7.0 at idle to 10.3 at WOT. When I disable the fuel pump, let the pressure drop then enable it again, there's a whirring noise like a stuck bearing as the pressure builds up.

I'm assuming this is the high pressure fuel pump, although it isn't really specified (there's only 1 'Fuel Pump').

Has anyone else experienced this before? And if it is my high pressure pump, any idea what the issue may be?

    Cheers

  2. My 250 Gt is running terrible. 2002 model. De-catted.

Currently running rich as a pig, 1 full tank does about 280km.

Not sure what the problem is; started from light misfire, to heavy misfire, to lots of black smoke, and it goes into limp mode if it idles too long. I've had CKP/CMP, HO2, and EGR DTCS. EGR was blocked, the crank and cam sensors changed, o2 sensors changed. After which it was improving for 1 tank, up to 350km, and promptly went back to the crap consumption levels. Plugs were fresh OEM platinums, and I've tried iridiums and replacement coils. Now DTC just reads Bank 1/2 Rich and EGR problem.

I'm not sure if it's a cooling system issue or something else...occasionally my meters do go on the fritz. Tacho or the whole dash goes dead. Sometimes all AC button lights are on and temp/clock goes 88888888888.

    Not a happy camper :(

Nissan Malaysia has refused to take a look at my car, and no one else has a CONSULT. I'm considering getting a Nissan Data Scan 2 to look at all the running parameters...Any ideas? I've been living with this for the past 8 months.

Oh, and at one point I had a back fire up the intake piping which fried the MAF. Running a new Nissan replacement.

  3. Hey guys, need some help. I removed the top and middle plenum to clean, and reinstalled everything back.

Used some rags to cover the ports on the bottom plenum while I was doing this.

First attempt at cranking it hesitated (batt volt 12.8). On second attempt it cranked, but no ignition. Right now

the engine turns over but it doesn't start. Not sure what's going on. Checked plugs, while not in the greatest

condition they were sparking before, and they were wet.

It turns over smoothly but no putt putts of weak ignition.

    Ideas?

  4. Hi everyone, trying to figure out what's wrong with my car. (250GT VQ25DD)

Only have a Injen cold air intake, although it was meant for a G35 and so I have 1 small hose, i think it's for vacuum that's disconnected.

It started with a very slight, barely felt, misfire during idle.

Now it's built up to be quite bad, spewing black smoke while driving, with bad fumes on idle.

Consumption's shot to hell, if I idle too long it'll go into limp mode, and sometimes it's hard to start.

I've changed the spark plugs, then I changed my coils - to wrecker items - and nothing's changed.

My plugs are cooler than recommended though; NGK LFR7s instead of the 5s, but the problem existed before I changed my plugs.

I can try running hot plugs again, but I think the problem lies elsewhere.

ECU reported initially that Bank 2 was running rich. I got my hands on a OBD2 scantool and reset everything, including ECU learning.

There was no change, then both Bank 2 and Bank 1 were reported rich.

I've heard on the Golf's when the high-pressure pump goes faulty it continuously dumps fuel at a high rate, even at low rpm.

I guess I'll try cleaning the injectors next; although do you clean direct injection (high press)injectors the same way you clean tb/port injectors?

Also, the initial problem was more apparent after I decatted; although my car only has upstream O2 sensors.

  5. Finally getting around to posting pictures. Here's my 250GT, with random Taiwan rims that need to be changed, and apparently, a West Coast Customs GFRP bumper. I have the skirts and rear bumper as well but I'm already having clearance issues with just the front being an inch lower, and the rear bumper was meant to fit on top of the USDM pedestrian friendly Infiniti bumpers.

Took awhile to get used to it but I love the front bumper now, and its great for my Injen CAI. No problems with water, even with the heavy rain here in Malaysia. Just gotta be smart about puddles of course.

  6. Yeah not looking at a dual muffler setup.

Bleh. Put in a bottle of Redline SI-1 Complete Fuel System Cleaner and it started to run super rich. Idle started to get funny, after a few minutes at idle, RPM rises to the 1.5-2k range and it's effectively in limp mode where full throttle will get you to 2-2.3k rpm. ECU is throwing a P0175, Fuel System Rich (Bank 2). Restarting the engine gets rid of this and it's ok to drive around, just not idle for long. The exhaust gases at idle are tear inducing, and almost smells like paint thinners.

*Oh, and under load it spews out lots of white smoke. It's not eating oil though so I'm hoping it's just unspent fuel.

I'm hoping it's because the additive is cleaning/causing havoc and in a tank or two will clear out. Anyone else have this problem before?

  7. Well not familiar with tuning direct injection...can e-Manage handle it? :P If yes then I'd be very interested in the manifolds; a turbo of similar spec can be sourced hehehehhe

edit: on second thought, I can just fabricate a manifold. Labor cost is cheap here in Malaysia. It's the direct-injection that's a pain though.

  8. Custom fabbed a pair of 2.5" decat pipes for the 250. Due to the increased airflow can now clearly hear the empty resonator and muffler rasping tinnily. BTW 350Z cat back exhausts aren't feasible, the fuel tank is at the rear below the boot and 350Z style mufflers will not be able to fit; it's possible to fit two N1 style straight-through mufflers on each side but it'll be way too loud for what I'm aiming for.

Also, the resonator (midbox) is ridiculously huge. And flat. Curves around the prop shaft for a good 3.5 feet. I'll have to repack it; any replacement resonators, even box types, would make the exhaust boomy :/

  9. Hey there, I've been thinking of modifying my Skyline 250 GT. Does it share the same head design as the VQ35DE's?

Also, does it share the same internals as the Stagea's VQ25DET? Thinking of doing a low pressure turbo. Unfortunately

can't find any Stagea halfcuts here in Malaysia; unless I can get the bits I need shipped from Australia. And if it's a straight

forward ECU swap etc (one can dream).

  10. It'll be fine. The prev owner of my 250GT bought an Injen CAI kit for the G35 from the US, and I installed it myself. Reused the entire MAF assembly, just added an adapter flange (included in the kit) on one end so you could put a silicon hose on to connect to the rest of the piping. I have seen some CAI kits where you have to remove the MAF sensor from the housing and install it in the piping though. Either way, it fits! Mine goes right to the bumper (have to drop the front bumper to install)

  11. Hey there, I'm from Malaysia and recently acquired a 2002 250GT. It's done 122k kms,

but is still in pretty good condition. Have yet to clean the intake manifold and block the

EGR. Previous owner also threw in an Injen CAI kit and a West Coast Customs bodykit.

Since installing the CAI kit and liberating the VQ25DD's voice, I've been feeling the itch

and so am now in search of an exhaust for the car, and have come to ask for your

expert advice! The 250GT is a great car, trying not to mod it too much as I've got another

    car for autocross/trackdays, but it's a crime to restrict a car's performance :D It's my

comfortable car though so am aiming to keep it quiet (< 3k) until you give it the beans.

Regarding extractors/headers, can my VQ25DD use extractors for the VQ35?

It's hard to find V35 parts here in Malaysia but I can get hold of Z33 bits. I've found

    a second-hand Fujitsubo cat-back exhaust for the Z that's going for around 900 AUD

(muffler is a wide one with twin exit), but am considering getting a full system. The

shop has offered to assist me in ordering a brand new system from Japan but that's

on the pricey end of things.

There is the option of building a custom exhaust system but, as there is a lack of

proper R&D time, there's a high chance of exhaust drone and I really don't want that

    on this car.

Also, can the cats be removed? (Haven't actually taken a look under the car yet hehe)

Basically wondering whether the ECU will throw a check engine light.

    Thanks!

    Jordan
