    Hi all,

I know this thread is ancient now but I'm desperate for help!

I just got a 2005 PM35 Stagea fresh off the boat. I want to find out what my options are for the existing stereo and TV screen?

At a minimum I just want AUX input (to play music from my phone) and the ability to run a reverse camera through the screen.

TV/DVD/Whatever else the screen can do would be nice too though!

    PS: I'm in Adelaide SA

    Cheers!

Hey Stew, I think this thread got me sorted. It's a big read. But in the end a new media box was needed to replace the tv thing (won't work out of Japan) it plugs into amp/sound system though.so pretty easy. Offers video and audio options. Including the pop up screen. I did need to wire a custom switch from memory to activate the camera feed. It's not a in fact to need.to remote.half the dash/console to even change the stereo out. If I was you (and speaking from experience) take it to a pro and pay for the install. You will save face and pain

  2. Hello there,

well I thought I would give those interested a bit of an update.

After some extensive negotiations with the warrant company they have conceded that the chain (in my case) has FAILED.

This is excellent news as it means they are willing to front for the repair.

Still excluded in their view were the chain guides - as they thought they could be reused. I decided to still replace them.

So a lesson here for anyone reading in a similar position is...do not accept the first DECLINE or NO.

While the chains may have some 'wear' over the lifetime of an engine....they should not cause the engine to FAIL (In my case camshaft sensor fault and Stuttering engine, particularly on hills)

I appreciate your tips and advice and now have a puuuuuring Stagea again.

    Cheers

  3. Hello folks.

I am in Auckland New Zealand.

I need some help and advice I have a M35 bought second hand two years ago and added an extended warranty it has done 150k. I now have a diagnosed 'stretched' timing chain. The warranty co. (DriveRight via IAG NZ) is claiming this is 'wear and tear' and not covered. however the engine fault light is on, it stutters now as a result and could cause major internal damage if it breaks. Calling Nissan NZ, they say the chains 'shouldn't..but can stretch' and in their opinion it has failed as they should last for the lifetime of the vehicle with regular servicing.

Other Warranty companies (Like Autosure NZ) cover this replacement due to stretch. So in my view the component has failed. However DriveRight say it has not failed...yet!

The clincher of this is that DriveRight now know the part is 'faulty' and will not cover any damage as a result of continuing to drive. I'm stuck. The warranty clearly states this component is covered (Timing chain and Timing chain tensioners)...but we seem to have a disagreement on the interpretation of 'failure'.

    Has anyone experienced this?
My bill is estimated to be $2500 to replace chain.

    Cheers.

  4. Hi guys,

I'm wanting to mount a couple of 12v/Cig lighter plugs i the back to run the kids dvd players from. Where is my nearest ignition based 12v power?

I suppose I could go back to the sat unit and branch off that as I already have been there ;-)

    Cheers,

    J

  5. Nice thread !

Back on topic....I like the touchscreen setups...I was goingto do this too but decided to leave the Factory screen in and link to it usingthe Aux in.

I have my seat faaaaaarr back to accommodate my legs andfound the centre console (where the screen is) hard to reach without a bendforward. I post some pics of my set up on the weekend, some may find itinteresting.

    Anyways, onto my next DIY

The sound in the front seats of the car is pretty good, butsitting in the back there is no bass really coming from the rear door speakersin my M35.

I was planning on either an upgrade of the in-door speakers

(Any recommendations??) I hear some 6.5's will drop straight in?

I think there is an amp in the back right (in front of theTV Sat?)...

can I run a Bass Tube off this by any chance?

What about some additional rears either side of the rearwindows?

    Cheers all

  6. A=Yes. If you use the 'special cable" which you make up for nix out of an RCA cable and computer USB header doo-dats (I'm sure that is the correct technical term :) ).

This plugs into the pins in the white connector. There's a half decent explanation of what each pin does here: http://www.skylinesa...ost__p__5739793.

In fact that whole thread is worth a read. It will also explain how putting an earth (via relay or switch) on the C1 (or Cont1 depending on model) terminal inside your OEM tuner will force it to display the AUX input, even when your car is in motion.

Once again cheers for the info...its quite funny reading some of the threads as they go back in time a bit.

If I read correctly, to simply get the video/audio to show on screen and play through OEM sound system you need to wire up an RCA input to the OEM tuner as shown in the thread.

    Steps:

    1) Find my OEM Box and it should look like this:

    4_TDV3100V001_1.jpg

The white plug hole is a 'spare' that all the boxes should have and will be the VTR or AUX inside the OEM Tuner

    2) buy or build a RCA to OEM Aux plug like this:(no.2 on right) like the attached.post-84420-0-78158500-1303349789_thumb.gif

    3) Plug in and select VTR on the Tuner menu to get the Aux input

    4) Enjoy ?

I also read about the 'video disabler' when driving...is that issue relevant to my 2003 250RS as well?

    cheers.

  7. I'll try to answer these, but if there are any errors maybe someone else can chime in to correct me.

    1. No, but the tuner boots with accessory power, so is ready to go when you open the screen & select the aux TV input (or have the earth wire mod switched)

    2. My sig link should now be working. In that thread there is links to other threads that have lots of info and some with intstructions in PDF form. They might be for the Asuka tuner, but installation is essentially the same, just some operations vary.

    3. Yes, just use the extra AV input on the tuner. there's a yellow wire that needs 12V put on it to switch to that input (instead of displaying live TV) so can be as simple as a toggle switch with 12V behind it.

    4. Still output to other screens.

    5. You could just use a RCA cable going directly into the OEM tuner. You will need some way of splitting off to other screens if you want to run some at the back. The tuner has extra video outputs for this purpose so it is very versatile, even without displaying TV.

    6. The yellow wire & AV input was added to these tuners by my request mainly to support reverse cam. The yellow wire in this instance would connect to your reverse lights, thus providing the 12V needed to automatically switch to this AV input when you put the car into reverse. Using the input for reverse cam means you will need some trickier setup with relays to also use it for other things like from your phone.

    7. It's actually quite OK. I have a HD screen as well, but with 7" to view there's not a lot of difference in quality when watching video. Don't be fooled by the blocky look of the leaf/fuel consumption displays. I think that's more to do with the graphic design in the programming.

    8. You have to leave it in circuit otherwise nothing much will work. There's not a lot of cable length back there to allow it to be moved either. I looked at it but gave up.

    9. Not sure about the first part, but yes, sound is controlled by the stereo when it's plugged into the aux in on the OEM tuner.

Leftfield question - Video in for the pop-up screen is possible with a connecting cable (& nothing else) as per point 5 above. Anything else is possible with some research, trial & error & plain old fashioned tinkering. It just depends if you want to retain factory look or don't mind bodging something up to do the job. However, replacing the pop-up screen isn't going to be the easiest thing (new one won't just work afaik) and most people who don't have a screen are trying to get one.

I hope this helps clear up your questions.

thanks for all your help man !

I'm gonna read some of the threads and then PM you for some ordering options.

Just one clarification, the OEM tuner already has one ;aux' input for 3 RCA's ? like straight in? or does that need a wiring modification as well.

thanks for all the info !!

  8. Cheers mate I'll PM you, can the firmware upgrade be done 'after the fact' as well anyway?

Ok I'll put some other questions here in case others want to know or know:

    I have a 2003 250 RS.

Keen to try out one of these upgrades, hopefully its not beyond me.

    Some questions:

    1) Does opening the 'pop up' screen automatically turn everything on or do you need to use the remote?

    2) I have tried a few of the links in this thread but they no longer work, could I get the install instructions just to have a read through?

    3) I ideally want to plug in my phone (Which has 3 rca out for music, video, GPS, etc all built in) and out put on the screen - I guess this will work.

    4) If you 'close' the pop up screen will the signal drop or will it still output to the back 'outputs'.

    5) if i dont want/need TV is this still the best unit for me or are there other options?6) Does the unit support reverse camera (I assume thats just an input) but if you put into reverse gear?7) Is the 'stock' screen ok for this stuff? The Nav screen seems a bit old, not great quality. But that could be the software too I suppose.8) What do you guys do with the DVD rom unit above the glove box? just leave as is?9) Is all the input audio (like from mp3 and DVD) 'preamp' ? So the volume etc is all controlled via the stereo still ?

Leftfield question: All I really want is a video-in option for the pop-up screen: I have a spare TFT 7inch screen with two 'video in' and a power/ground w/ remote. Part of me thinks that this could replace the current pop up screen and simply be wired in. But it sounds like the whole existing DVD ROM/TV unit has complex wiring...? Or has some ever just 'uplugged' the pop up screen and replaced as I suggest?

    thanks guys !

    Really appreciate your help.

  9. I've still got some left & can post one to you if you want. I think a firmware change is req'd for it to pick up NZ TV (8Mhz channels v's 7Mhz) and I'm waiting on a file from the manufacturer.

I had some interest from a chap driving a Toyota something-or-other in NZ so have started the process.

But in it's current form it will do the stuff you want.

Cheers mate I'll PM you, can the firmware upgrade be done 'after the fact' as well anyway?

  10. OK so i'm Laaaate coming into all this but happy to hear its not new ground. I have just bought a 2003 RS 250 with stock DVD rom nav, screen, cd player.

Are there any other Kiwis here?

Can I get the Asuka or similar boxes in Auckland? Or can you get them on Ebay too?

I'm not too fussed on the TV part, but would love to use the Video/audio in for pluggin my dvd/phone into.

    cheers bros !
