  1. Who knows whether those pre R35 cars drive anywhere near as well as they did when they were new. The grey import industry isn't exactly well known for pristine condition vehicles. The R33 was running on dodgy chinese made tyres versus the bespoke tyres on the R35. There is probably 2 seconds per lap in those tyres alone.

I think they were particularly harsh given the age of the vehicles. I was particularly dissappointed by the article however was pleased to hear how good the R35 is.

  2. last time i checked, the Z06 and the GTR both had steering wheels....

i'm pretty sure cars are meant to turn aren't they? although judging from some of these linked threads and comments in here, i'm not sure everyone understands that.. i must admit, it's hard to get your head around...

The point of the evo article was to race the best accelerating car (Corvette) in a straight line, the best road car (the Audi R8) on the road and the most track based weapon (the GT3) on the track to see how the GTR stacks up against the best of everything. It did a damn good job.

When I say the "best" I mean Evo's version of the best when you exclude straight out super cars.

I was actually most surprised to hear that it was faster than the Audi on bumpy Welsh roads and that the driver of the GTR needed to feather the throttle on the straight to allow the Audi to keep up, so that he could see how hard the driver was pushing to keep up.

It will be interesting to see how fast the v-spec is. Just imagine if it lost even 200kg's and gained 50 horses.

Nissan have done an outstanding job, as the article says it is the new benchmark.

    Cheers

  3. Hi,

    Here's a link to the R35 GT-R in testing.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBifjuV_WUA&feature=user

Nissan have indicated that they are taking this very serious as the GT-R's racing heritage is so important. I know very little about the series though I thought the race car had very little in common with the road car, same as the v8 supercars in Aust. Therefore it's simply a case of the biggest wallet wins, provided they can buy the right talent?

Therefore the race car this year will only have progressed in a similar sort of fashion to that it would have done anyway whether it is a R35 GT-R shell or not.

Am I right in my thinking?

    Thanks

  4. there are have been a lot of "Clubspec Evo" WRX's I think 10 or 11 now.. In lots of different colors, re GTR Evo, there is a post which has photos of articles in this section..

I thought the Evo WRX series was an Australian only reference.

Re GTR models I have read that they intend on releasing 3 different versions. I'm no help obviously.

Edit: Now that I think about it the article talking about the 3 versions referred to an Evo. not sure that anybody outside of Nissan really knows anything. I suspect it's all speculation.

  5. Reading the latest version of evo I thought to myself Vector rings a bell.

    Anyway here are the specs;

    - 10 litre twin-supercharged v8

    - 1850 hp = 1425 kw

    - 1700 lb ft = 2305 nm

    - Est top speed inxs of 440kmh

    - Cost, a mere US$400,000

    Looks ok, definitely tough.

imagine sitting at the lights next to....anything really.

    i want one.

anyway i just thought I would show this as it is leaps and bounds above everything else i have seen.

  6. wow good point about the vspec, i wonder if it could crack into the 2's for 0-100  considering that the time of 3.3 was recorded by edmunds on a dirty surface that they claim did not have alot of traction.

Hmmmm I'm really looking forward to seeing the v spec, mostly just to satisfy my curiosity given the many reports I have read.

One or two reports have stated that the vspec will be no more powerful. In my opinion they need to increase the power or reduce weight big time. from what I have seen the gtr can only just keep with the 911 turbo in a straight line and therefore it making gains everywhere else. increasing power will just top it off. i'm sure power could be increased relatively easily by using a similar approach as porsche has taken with the 911 turbo's turbos. the gtr's turbos are relatively simple and cheap by comparison. but what would i know really.

another report indicated that they may have driven the v spec when everyone else was testing the normal gtr. the reason for this relates to the fact that they were taken to a different area to all other journos. the car had a roll cage in it. the journo stated that it didn't feel any faster in a straight line. they indicated that it was much looser and the engineers were very interested in hearing their view on the drive.

  7. From what I have recently read, Lexus/Toyota are struggling to get the 0-100km/h time under 4 secs. This is causing them delays however is extremely important to acheive when creating a supercar.

This really interested me given that it has supposedly done the ring in under 7.30, the handling, balance and braking must be phenominal.

  8. My old man has a supercharged (+ shit loads of other mods) 03 CV8 Monaro with over 500HP at the wheels and i can tell you it handles, drives and accelerates better then probably 90% of the skylines on here (i have a skyline so im not being bias in anyway) and it can still drive in everyday traffic unlike some of the cars here. I hate people that comment on how shit *insert car name here* are when they have never driven one or could never afford one, but somehow there 200rwkw GTST skyline or whatever is the best thing in the world.

Seriously some of you guys need to wake up.

    My 2 cents worth.

    Here here. Small minds.

  9. Stock for stock the S15 has far superior balance and handling. I've driven in a friends S15 many times and has better mid range torque to my R33 however the R33 has the better top end rush.

The interior of the S15 is obviously newer and nicer in my opinion.

If I was in the market, had the money and was deciding between the two I would go the S15.

  10. The new Lexus/new supra sounds super. Here it is testing:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ShrOWznZbns

but to think that it can do a 7.24 min lap of the Ring is hard to believe. Partly because the reports I have read have the power at 500hp. Partly because I imagine that the rubber it uses will be relatively narrow compared to that used by the Zonda and other super cars.

Anyway I reckon it looks very cool.

    Cheers

  11. Im actually reall impressed with the Stock suspention in my 33, keeping in mind it has only done 50,000km, its very very firm! Id be safe to say that it feels a little better than my stock Integra Type R suspention did when i got it.

WOW. I feel the exact opposite re my suspension. it is stock, has done 90k kms. Maybe it's partly the diff that is causing the problem.

If your suspension is better than a stock Type R I can understand why you would be really impressed.

  12. I wouldn't base my judgement of the car upon just one source of review. Look for reviews from Japan or the UK motoring press. And don't worry about the power output just yet Mitsubishi always bring out the light weight, boosted versions soon after.

Were they any remarks regarding the twin clutch system?

Yes the test drove the twin clutch system and spoke very highly of it.

In relation to your remark about them bringing out boosted versions later, does Australia get these or just the UK? I always thought we received just one version.

  13. my budget for purchase is around $25,000 - $28,000.

about maintenance costs, i have read and calculated around at least $5,000/year including insurance (at least?) i don't mind and ok with them, it's just that i still question whether it is really worth the effort to do it because i won't use it regularly.

well ... i realise that that might be the price to pay to have one ... either for daily use or not :)

    Two things:

    1. I bought a GTST 6 years ago. In that time I have driven it 30,000 km's. Most of my driving is in a Charade. If anything this makes me like the car even more as it is special to get back into. I've just accepted the ongoing costs however if the costs will place you on the border of the poverty line then I would definitely reconsider.

I also just purchased a Golf GTI MkV. Similarly I drive it rarely and it remains special and exciting.

    2. If your in WA try getting a quote from HBF. They were definitely the cheapest for me, by a long way.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers

  14. Buying any car with an RB26DETT is bound to cause issues - These cars are bought in japan by people who really do want to drive the tits off them. Otherwise theyd get a GTST. Or a Crown.

I think the R32 is the best choice for a few reasons, these are some.

They are lighter, easier and cheaper to find parts for, and mainly - cheaper to buy in the first place. Which is good, because nearly every RB26 that comes

    Two questions/points:

    1. I would have thought that the driving habbits of GTR and GTST owners would be pretty similar. Personally I think that the difference between the two groups is the amount of cash they have in the pockets.

    2. Why is it that the parts for the R32 GTR are cheaper? If we are talking engine rebuilds then we are talking engine parts. I didn't think there was that much of a difference between the various incarnations of the RB26DET. I am certainly no expert so I am happy to be corrected.

  15. RPW are so good at what they do that their achievements are even discussed on a high and mighty Skyline forum.... :|

How many of you posting have run an 11.9?

    Didn't think so...

But Spirro works on his Torri from the back of his fish and chip shop and can run an 11.8, but I'm not impressed. You can run any time in any car if you throw enough money at it.
