  1. Hi all,

I'm livin in Shinagawa, Tokyo and my current car (rx-7) is in Kobe bout to be shipped to OZ for sale.

Anyone know if there are there any places that rent out cheap cars for track days around Tokyo? near fuji raceway etc.?

  2. Been in Okayama for just over a year. already set to head back in august 07. Love this place for so many reasons, but as you other guys mentioned, somethin about teaching that doesnt give you a challenge in life!

Ghost Dancer, i'm in Okayama city mate. u ever head up to okayama int. circuit? theres also a local circuit near niimi where my mechanic takes me to watch him drift.

  3. When I was working in Japan I found that alot of the Gaijin over there tend to stick together rather than mix alot with the locals, I suppose this is the same in most countries but the thing that got me most was that foreigners seem to get away with alot of shit over there with no intervention of the police and if the police did turn up they were really not useful in sorting out the problem. This was back in 99 and I was just wondering if this has changed, surely the Japanese would not put up with this behaviour on their soil.

i think us gaijin get away with a heap of small things but when it comes to something sizable we get deported! one of the guys in my prefecture didnt pay his taxi fare, then was caught by police and didnt show them his alien reg. card, was thrown in jail for two months and the local board of education asked him politely to resign from his job and leave japan! all this because he was drunk and just didnt think about paying the taxi at the time, and leaving his alien reg card at home.

  4. hand pick a car "while" your in Japan for 10 days? good luck!!

10 days isnt enough time for auction cars, so you'll be limited to car yards.

personaly, I would try to find a dozen cars you'd want online or through an agent and use those 10 days only to test drive and see them; then finaly pick one to send off. Either way, your going to need an agent in Japan or friend to de-register the car, do other paperwork and send it off on the ship australia bound. In case you dont have the money TT'd to Japan in time you'll also need someone to complete the transaction.

if you have some serious money to spend on a serious track car you always have the option of the big name workshops but big names come with big price tags.

thing is.. do you or your friend speak any Japanese or do you have any friends that live in Japan with good language skills? most likely most ppl will have limited english ability if at all at the workshops.

  5. u mean Fuji san? ill be there this weekend with a bunch of gaijin climbing at 10pm saturday night to catch the sun rise sunday morning ;)

Thanks, glad you like the shots. The grid shot with the race queens is one of my favorites. Funny thing is I had an old Japanese guy pulling me back from my rucksack while taking that picture. I hate covering such events as much as I love them as you always have some jobs-worth know it all giving you sh1t because you are in the wrong place at the wrong time according to the "rules". Thats probably the thing that really bugs me the most about this line of work, being treated like a clueless child by worthless people that have as much authority and status as extras on film sets! Anyway rant over! Looking forward to shooting at Fuji next w-e.

  6. now ive heard different opinions on this matter...

i thought, under the personal import rule you could bring in a modified car ie. the ones most of you mentioned. BUT supposedly; from a source that purely works in exporting cars from Japan, I've been told that even under the personal import rule the car has to be as stock standard as under SEVS and the most people are under the misconseption that they can be modified (like i was).

    does anyone know the fact?

  7. if u got enough money go nsx. would love to own one !!!!

im in the same situation right now! ive pretty much boiled it down to ....

    rx7 series 6 5speed turbo

for a number of reasons, but your situation might b diff.

sheit!! loud ass siren outside!! this is my first typhoon in my life that ill be in! probably just a little flooding in my area.. no where near as bad as kyushu

  8. im hitting just over a month and that mail definately hits home! so funny seeing people that have been here a few years competing with gaijin behind the bar at clubs... the most ive heard so far is what level of the japanese proficiency test have you done! although most of the gaijin ive met on the street are ultra friendly, and none as yet has given me the turf rivalry!

  9. I used to do business with David Zozuk at www.kobecars.com but it seems like that site is down/no longer used. Other than him I don't know anybody off hand. Why don't you buy a car through Yahoo Auctions?

hmm ive been told to stay away from yahoo auctions when it comes to whole cars.... in fact by david zozuk himself! he had a bad experience once

but then again he's reluctant to bid for me as im living in another city and he says its a head fluck to reg a car in another city, so im thinkin i might need to find someone in okayama ken... aussie bar here i might go check out.. says he can hook me up

anyways, back to my sho chu.. talk soon

will come down to osaka soon and hook up

  10. shame its so far away from me, otherwise i'd be there in a second! im yet to see any car action! cant wait! post up pics mate!

rezz, do you know any1 with USS or HAA auction access? i'd love to get an rx7 asap and auction seems the way to go, but most of the export websites charge a similar amount as if i was buying from oz.

  11. Thanks champ,

I just got to japan two weeks ago on JET and they decided to give me a week holidays already! so from tuesday im off for a week. was thinkin of goin to osaka for the roots concert! was also gonna head to kobe to visit a friend so if you got some spare time to give me some tips that would be sweet. oh and maybe you could recommend a hostel in kobe/osaka cities??

    Cheers

  12. on a car note... what are some good places, maybe websites or dealerships i could pick up a nice car? thinking either skyline, rx7 or mazda6? yahoo auctions is dodgy i hear when it comes to car bodys and i dont have a license for any auctions so whats my best bet?

    cheers in advance

  13. good to see your seeing the positive out of your redundency. i remember you saying a while ago that you wanna leave so maybe its just the kick that ya need!

good on ya mate for putting so much time into answering everyones questions (even the lazy questions)

  14. Thx for the tips... Tokyo definately wasnt as cheap as i thought it would be with electronics. .. i'm in Okayama now and will head to kobe and osaka in a few weeks ... i'm told they're a heap cheaper there

cheers for that rezz, tried to search for it in dotars but didnt find it

    peace
