  1. I'm interested (as a photographer) but will let you know closer to the date, as its my birthday on the 11th and will have to see what's planned. Should be able to make it though
  2. I'd be keen to tag along and snap away, welcome to use my gear as well (pending how long it lasts). 2x AB800's Shoot-thru umbrellas - 47" Octabox/PLM if anyone wants to pose nude on there car Vagabond II As well as light stands bla bla bla (Strobes and portable battery for the non-photographic people). Plus a whole heap of Canon gear/triggers bla bla. I just hope i remember to check back here for this thread
  3. Thanks mate I will post some more up tonight when i edit more.
  4. Just two from todays photoshoot
  5. The past 3 days that i have been too busy to upload.
  6. It's most commonly referred to as a timer normally with 2 or 10 seconds (Canon). But looks as though in the manual its called Exposure delay mode (unless that blog is a noob blog, but doesn't look like it). I'm surprised the D90 doesn't have mirror lock up. I thought it would.
  7. Beautiful Composite Only thing that draws my attention away is the light/Spotlight on top of the building. Besides that, love the colours and great photo mate
  8. Ok no problems. Anything i think that deserves a setup pic i will take it I'll set this all up again for you guys sometimes this week and take a photo of it.
  9. No problems! You can also try it without using a glass, use a big glass dish. That's how people get that kind of effect like its a lake etc.. I might try that later on. More shots to come tonight
  10. What camera do you have? And do you want Canon branded or 3rd party? Prices varies between entry level cameras (rebels/450D/1000D etc) to pro-sumers (40D/50D/7D) and then 5D/1D. Average price is between $40-100 depending on if you want an automatic timer, pre-programmed times to keep it on for etc..
  11. Close Funkymonkey! I used a Vivitar 285HV with a 1/2 CTO gel and a pure blue Gel to light the background (put right underneath the glass a bit further back and bounced off the background). And then 2x AB800's (strobes) to light it. Everything was off camera and triggered by wireless triggers. It's pretty simple to do, you just need a flash/strobe that has a fast enough flash durating to freeze the liquid. It is basically a light tent that it is in (the glass). Setup consisted of: White styrofoam on the sides of the cup and behind the cup (background). The White pretty much acts as reflectors. 1x AB800 on the left with a PLM (big bounce umbrella) with White front Diffuser fabric on which is equivalent to a large softbox. 1X AB800 on the right in a 47" octabox. Tripod - so you can make a composite and because for this i found it was easier to keep everything straight. Reason i used modifiers is to soften the light so it is not as specular and hard. I really am a fan of soft light. I also did a composite with this image. I took one of the background with the glass there. Then turned on the strobes, and got my mate to drop icecubes in from above and then merged them together in photoshop and added layer masks to paint in some drops/splashes and then used the healing brush to blend it all together. It was shot at 1/125th, ISO 100, F5.6 (i think from memory, unsure if the exif is still there). AB800's were at 1/32th power. Hope i have helped and sorry for the super long info! Got a bit carried away
  12. Fridays. Haven't uploaded Sat/Sun yet will do it later tonight
  13. By the sounds of it you mean a rig shot? If so you will need suction cups(Avenger F1000), boom arm(Around 10-15ft pole that has minimum flex), magic arm(Manfrotto) and super clamps(Manfrotto). Otherwise for panning, shutter speed of between 1-30th - 1/160th (Depending on how much motion blur you want), pan with the car as it drives along and keep panning with it until the shutter has completely closed and taken the photo. Takes a fair bit of practice but your bound to get a keeper. Best to start with your shutter speed higher and lower it as your keeper rate gets more successful. Normally you don't use WA lenses for this, you use super tele's (70-200/300/400/500/600) because you will be shooting from a distance and want a nice tight framed shot. Hope i helped.
  14. Nice Funkymonkey! I think the cross processing look brings out the image a lot more. I like it Here's mine for today (yesterday) i think i went a little too overboard, but i still like it.
  15. Hahaha yeah Sidd. Your still 1st. (But sshhh, trying to get him motivated!). Maybe you should do a project 365 as well?
  16. Also, big red lines too Yes, HDR is a very personalized thing. Theres plenty of tutorials out there but really its your own personal choice whether you want it to look natural or over the top. Just what ever you do, don't start pixel peeping! It will make you unhappy on 99% of the photos anyone takes because its not sharp enough/too much noise etc etc... Be happy with what you take and when you want to get serious about it, then start pixel peeping, to a certain extent. Also, what camera/lens are you using? Seems that the corner sharpness on the lens is distorting, hence all the CA/softness as well. Quite common on a lot of lenses.
  17. You can actually buy remotes that have timers on them or you can pre-program times into them. I think they are about $100. Sounds easier to me than having 2 composites a minute. Before the battery dies would be about 2-3 hrs, thats 120 images an hour. Lots of disk space taken up and a lot of compiling in PS. that would be good if you wanted something for 5 minutes or something like that, but until the battery runs out would be too long, IMO
  18. Not to mention if you leave it on overnight, make sure you dont have the auto turn off for the camera on And moisture will cloud your lens as well as bugs etc... best to do it for 2 hrs/3 hrs and check it every half hour/blow it with a rocket blower to get rid of moisture etc... If you want star trails, head to somewhere remote with little/none pollution, e.g. country etc..
  19. Stenve - That HDR is way too overdone IMO. There's some chronic CA still on the right hand side buildings and It's a bit soft too. But overall, good effort Jay - They look awesome! I finally uploaded everything to my website. Project 365! And here's a pic from yesterday. Probably crap quality as i just pulled it off my website and uploaded to flickr because i am at work.
  20. hhmm motivation is needed........................ If you were in Sydney, i'd say you can play with my Alien Bee strobes but your not, so i guess i can't motivate you! What are you planning to do for your project 52? Anything in particular?
  21. Nawwww!! Project 365!! Do it, do it!!
  22. I've started my project 365. Although i have been really busy and have been lazy and haven't updated it on my website/facebook for the past 3 days haha. Will do it tonight and will post pictures tonight. If your curious, website is Kory Leung Photography . I am currently going to change the site around so i have my own project 365 page tonight with the gallery there. Seeing as i haven't been here for the past few months, happy new year to all!
  23. What camera did you end up buying for her, its been a month, come on, come on!!! Haha. I hope you did get her an entry level camera like a 450D/500D/1000D. Too much camera for a first time user to get a 40D/50D or a 7D. Unless it benefits you as well!
  24. Could give you a uber huge lecture on everything but i will tell you what i tell other people who take there camera's out for the first few times. Just go out there, shoot pictures, capture the moments and have fun. Doesn't matter if its green box mode or M, everyone i've lectured worried so much about there shutter speed/iso/aperture and couldn't remember what did what and ended up missing heaps of stuff because they were snapping away and saw a great moment and they missed it because there settings weren't correct. Over time, the settings will come too you, and you will know what you want. Just enjoy the day and take some pics, that's what it's all about! But if you want settings, as Sidd said and Goldzilla, focus on shutter speed/ISO/aperture. Make sure to post pics!
  25. Sorry Sidd, didn't see your post lol. Whenever you want man, i'm ready and not busy within the next 3 weeks or so. I dont finish work until 530 but and im on the beaches, so would have to be on a weekend! Whens the next model shoot?
