Thank you soo much!! I did forget to mention that the car was converted to manual before I purchased it. So I’ll take a look at the diff for that extra sensor just in case. Ahhh I see now.  I’ve looked at the manual and found pin 19!  So to be 100% clear, I wire directly to pin 19 and not just tap into the existing wire?

Its been 3 years since I did it, cant remember if there was a wire there or not. If there is, snip it from the current harness and run new wire from transmission speed sensor connector to it. Good luck.

How exactly did you do this? I have a r34 25gt converted to manual. Auto speedometer was working fine. Swapped for a Nismo GTT meter and now speed gauge won’t read. Would you happen to know how I can get the speed gauge to work?

The mtx/atx pinouts are different for the connector to the cluster. Also your automatic car has a sensor at the diff to read speed while the manual cluster uses the speed sensor on the manual transmission. I bought the mtx speed sensor connector, plugged in it and ran the wires into the car, grounded one out on the crash bar [any ground is good] and the other I put in pinout # 19. It should now work.

Edit: you can find the pinout numbers in the R34 workshop manual on page EL19. If you don't have it, shoot me your email and Ill send the manual to you.

Gearbox sender is 2 wires to cluster. It is a +/- 1V AC sawtooth type signal. Should not be greatly different to that from the diff, except for pulse count per speed.

The ECU has nothing to do with it. The ECU and every other CU is a client of the speed signal generated in the cluster by the speedo head. That is a 0-5V PWM signal.

All this is in the R34 manual.

So there is one vehicle speed sensor input wire [#19]

The 2 vss output wires are 2 pulse [#30] and 8 pulse. [#31]

Im guessing 2P is for manual transmission sensor and 8P is for auto final drive speed signal. It would be safe to assume whichever one I have, I should wire in the opposite for ground. I need to put a fuse on the ground side too by the looks of it.

  4. Hi guys,

R34 sedan I have was originally a non turbo automatic. Speedo is read in analog from the sensor on the diff pinion. Put in a nismo manual cluster and confirmed speedo did not read, switched back to auto cluster for and was happy with it.

I then grenaded the diff and could only find a short nose replacement. So I am now at the point of wiring in the transmission digital sensor to the cluster, but I cannot find any wiring schematics in the R34 service manual that are useful.

    Questions:

    1) Do we have wiring schematics available for R34's?

    2) Do the 2x speedo wires go straight to the cluster from the trans sensor or via an ECU to calibrate and read correctly?

    3) Now I have a hard ABS light on due to analog speed sensor not being connected to the diff. What are my options regarding ABS. Does everyone pull a fuse/relay to eliminate it or can you incorporate/convert it?

Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated. I've searched the forum for an hour or so and cannot see if anyone this specific issue, if there is a thread that solves my issue sorry in advance!

  5. Hey guys, looking at the many HKS, HPI and Trust oil cooler setups. It appears they attach on top of the stock RB26 cooler setups, Im looking for one to completely bypass all that and go direct to the block.

    Requirements:

    1) Has provision for v-cam/both OEM oil sensors. Hopefully these are located after the oil has passed through the oil filter. HKS requires oil line location after filter or adding screen mesh in line.

    2) The filter can be stacked on top of plate or relocated.

    3) Is thermostat equipped.

Am I overthinking this? Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  6. So Ive been looking on jp-carparts, nissan.epc-data and amayama... I havent been able to find the 4 door part numbers [all 4 of them] for these:

    SIDE.jpg

In jp-carparts section 767 it shows:

    2d.gif

    And 4 door:

    4d.gif

No part numbers or 4 door pciture numbers to work with. :(

Any help here? Looking for new parts only at this time, mine were wrapped in this carbon vinyl before I bought it. They are now peeling and underside is destroyed, besides it looks terrible.

    Thanks!

  7. This is an amazing thread, much appreciated! I am currently collecting the last few parts for the MFD in a 4 door w/ R33 RB26. The only problem I am having so far is when I cut into my dash [i dont have the gauges] I am not sure if the 2 metal brackets will be there or not. Can anyone shine a light on these things?

Ive found some pictures that show that the brackets are not part of the metal bar below the dash, and when the dash is pulled out these brackets come with it. I am assuming the triple gauge brackets and MFD brackets are the same, but Im honestly not sure.

Again any info would be greatly appreciated!

Pic of brackets in removed dash:

  8. Does anybody happen to have a picture of a GTR dash with the mfd removed? Or the dash out the car...

Been searching with no luck, even on the japanese auction sites. Collecting parts for mfd install in a 4 door, would prefer to see how the dash looks before taking a blade to it. Thanks ladies and gents!
