  1. Damn... i just read this thread - didnt know you had to go through SO MUCH drama...

But have to say - your current GTRVS2... Now that is a beauty!!!

Even I'm surprised by myself how much drama I've been through with GTRs, I had my R33 GTST for 5 years and it had never caused me any problem, guess the better the thing is harder to get.

BTW my GTRVS2 is almost recover and I just picked it up from JLM, only front bumper is left to be fixed. JLM had done a pefect job so far.

FYI I didn't go though insurance so that my car could maintain it's current insured value which is $70,000, if I report the damage and lodged a claim not only I need to pay for excess fee and increased preime fee and also the value of the car may drop.

  2. On a positive note, all that looks like cosmetic damage and can easily be repaired and/or replaced. It shouldn't cost anywhere near $10K though.

The rear diffuser cost around $4000 from nissan, the front lip and bumper is $700 each ($1400 in total) and they should be cheaper to get from nissan than repaint according to JLM, the kakimoto exhaust cost around $2500 and right side bumper needs to be repaint which I haven't got a price yet. The diffcult part is the colour is bayside blue and it's very hard to get the colour matched and it cost more as it needs a base paint + 2 layer of blue and another 2 layer of clear coat. but 10K should be enough to cover everything, still.. 10k is not that small.. I can get a decent GTST around 10k without any problem.

  3. WOW..... I'm gobbsmacked....... That's just horrible.

I can validate you 4WD Attesa issue because when I finally parked my car on the sand, I noticed that the 4WD light was on in the dash!

Fortunately, after turning it off and then restarting the car later and making it home, all is well and the light hasn't come back on since.

Unfortunately whilst all intentions were to have a great fun day by all, this run potentially could be remembered as the "SAU Nightmare to Patonga!"

I really feel for you mate, you dodged a bullet with your original purchase at EL's but now got blasted by a cannon!

    Bob.

My 4WD light was never up but the noise was so loud which really scared me. It's not as bad as EL incident as I will lose more money if I made that purchase the only different is I ran out of luck to dodge this one. The main thing is I think these damage that was made could completely be avoid by simply tell us where we were going, so simply, one sentence would do the job. I think if he told us we were heading a dirt road would still surprise all of us.

  4. Forgive my ignorance but the buzz noise you mentioned on the day we all heard at idle with the car parked in neutral. A differential doesn't spin at idle in neutral?

I would just like to ask at this point cos I've never dealt with them, but JLM are legit aren't they? I was in the car behind you and on this dirt road section I didn't see you move fast enough or hit anything with enough force to do this kind of damage, I am literally amazed. I was watching everything that came out from under your car and I could see only little stones. Like smaller than a golf ball at less than 10km/h and yes I was watching the speed. I'm not trying to cause more pain I'm just stunned that it could do that sort of damage

TBH me too, that's why I was so pissed yesterday cos the problem is way bigger than the expectations. I just did a service with JLM 2 weeks before that and nothing was wrong with the car and I haven't driven the car since then, also we all took pictures before we hit the dirt road which also shows that the car is in perfect condition. The buzz noise is confirmed to be the ATTESA E-TS 4WD PRO system as the computer cannot cope dirt road and it was continuesly let the system on and off, affer all R34 was not built to run dirt road. I was too busy the the previous two days as I need to work and I spend all my free time at JLM. I tried to uploaf pictures via my phone but it seems to be just uploading forever. I take a day off today and finally I can up load some pictures using my computer.
  5. What's with the internet jockeys bagging him out without themselves being there on the day to know all the facts of that particular situation?

I think is it extremely irresponsible of the organiser for not informing all participants of the cruise that there will be a very long (many kms) stretch of dirt track. This, to me, is absolutely ludicrous.

I empathise with the owner of the damaged R34 GTR Vspec 2 in that he (amd the rest) was effectively given little choice or warning about the upcoming conditions and once on that track, he was left between a rock and a hard place.

I don't blame him for making threats - I too would be more than a little pissed off if I was put in that situation. Glad to see that he has calmed down as that won't help anyone at all. Unfortunately, the situation is what it is and he will have to foot the bill for the repairs.

If there is anything that I can do to help in fixing your car, I will do what I can and am happy to help in anyway.

Thank you very very much for your understanding!

  6. Alright, a few things here:

    • threatening to cause physical harm to ANYONE via a public forum can cause major issues for the parties involved, especially the one making the threats. I am very glad that that has been retracted (it has, hasn't it???). You might want to take a step back before you hit that "Post" key, take a breath, and re-read what you've typed before letting it free on the internet where it will remain FOREVER, with the ever-present risk of it haunting you later in life.
    • SAU as a forum, nor SAU-NSW as a club, are not responsible for any unofficial events that are posted here, nor any damage that may occur at an unofficial event.
    • Please remember that, after all is said and done, it is still just a car. As hard as you've worked, as much as you've saved, and as often as you've chosen to go without other things in your life so you could afford your dream, it can still be either repaired or replaced. And much more easily than a family member or friend, or even a pet.
    A few other observations:

    • organising a cruise for a whole bunch of performance-oriented cars like these is always a great idea if it is well thought-out and run. Blindly leading them onto a dirt track (or even a rough road), with absolutely no warning, is not very smart. Nor is the lack of a map/itinerary for the day, as per Terry's suggestion early in the thread.
    • I can kinda understand why Edifier is feeling the way he is - I'd be majorly upset too if I was pretty much forced to follow down a similar stretch of road at the risk of damaging my car, but I've had the odd scrape here and there in my car. Yes, I was extremely annoyed at the time. But as the saying goes, "Shit happens," and all we can do is get over it and cover our bases in the hope that it doesn't happen again.

Yeah that was stupid of me, I shouldn't say that, and I do apologize for what I said and I mean no harm and tbh I never punched anyone in my life not even as a kid… I was simply just angry and I will take full responsibility if I have to. I was extremely upset yesterday as the damage is way bigger than what I expected, the exhaust has multiple bents and leaking point, the carbon fiber rear diffuser has more than 50 scratches and dents, side, front, and lip needs repaint, the buzz noise I mentioned earlier was the rear LSD (so I was right on the day) and it could be damaged but my 34 has power FC instead of the stock ECU so we couldn't diagnos by computer, also the front bumper is cracked and.the water tank and radiator were empty but we did an presure test today it is not leaking, nut Adam at JLM mentioned it could be a tiny hole that it's leaking vibrations so when the car is up and running we further test will be needed. So far that's the damage we already found, fingers cross hope nothing come up anymore.

The other reason I pissed off is on the day people told me no need to worry anything as it should be fine, and I was very unhappy on the day which I think could be easily tell by my face and I was so worried and had the car checked out first thing in the next morning and it is beyond my expectations and I was even prepared to hear bad news, just wouldn't think it's that bad, it's like you know you are sick but you just wouldn't think it's stage IV lung cancer and it had spread all over the body.

  7. I just got so annoyed by people keep saying that I could do a u turn or reverse back out, the road was no wider than a bus lane, and the longest stright line would be less than 150 meters, so it's simply just coner after coner, and the middle of the road is so high so I have to stick to one side of the road as well, I just want tell people that I had no choice but drive forward and people just don't believe me and blame me for the damage which made me lose control. I'm not saying you guys are wrong, as if I stopped at the first 200 meters my car would be saved but as I said earlier, I only thought it's just a bad condition road to a beautiful photo place, and the first part of the road wasn't that bad compare to the end part where I stopped several times. So please take my deepest apology and please understand the situation back there.

  8. I do apologize as I did lost my temper back there. I really love this R34 it was never left my car space without me sitting in it nor it has parked in any shopping center or public car park untill yesterday, it was my fifth time driving that car and that including the time I picked the car up and a time when I did the service. It was one of the most important thing in the world to me at the moment and yes my wife hates it so much I have to say. I was so looking forward to this cruise party and things like this happened is really up setting, my heart is totally broken now and as a grown up man this is the first few times my eyes are wet nd that's how much I love it, as now, no matter how much money I spend on it, it will never be the way it was. He just died yesterday. It's just like bob said, it's like a new pair of fine Italian leather shoes to me, and now it had step on dog feces, no matter how hard you wash or clean it, you just won't want wear them amymore, that's how I feel about my R34 now!

  9. Well no i wasnt there. Im sure if you hadve stopped, thus stopping everyone behind you, and said " hey this is f**king bullshit lets all reverse out of here " a lot of people wouldve been like " well shit if he wont take the GTR any further why would we ". I know i would have been right behind you in that case.

Anyhow, enough said on it. Whats done is done. For an FYI, i will be organising a coastal cruise, on sealed roads, starting near the sutherland nasho and finishing in my local area at the robertson pie shop/robertson itself/ a suitable establishment in bowral if i can find one.

This will be mid to late june. Once my car gets registered. 2-3 weeks notice will be given and a complete pre cruise scout, route maps and a basic itinery.

Details soon, and again sorry to everyones car who got damaged and all the best.

LMAO! How come you think I didn't stop and ask for help?! In situation like that you think I would just sit in my car and simply drive???????? Don't be funny please.
  10. To those people who suggest reverse the car, it was simple not possible, the risk would be way too big compare to drive forward as I said in the earlier reply anyone was there would agreed to just drive in first and make a u turn where possible, reverse is simply out of option. Maybe at the first km it was possible and as I said, non of us know that was an off road trip and what I thought was it's just a small road with bad condition, how come I know it would be an off-road? When you in a skyline cruise you just wouldn't think that way! All I was it's just a cery short bad road and a beautiful beach would show up! I was even very excited! Until when I notice "oh shit? We are on an off-road" it was already too late ! This could totally be avoid by inform us earlier! All I was thinking was a beautiful beach or something like that not a 10km off-road track for fun!

  11. Im sure you would have been able to turn the car around. Even a 90 point turn could have gotten you back out. Skylines dont have bad turning circles at all.

I am not meaning to be rude, but if I had the lucky stars of owning an GTR, of ANY model, the second I smelt dirt i would have pulled over to the side, waited for the rest of the cruise to pass, then commited to however many points of a turn, and said to hell with this and left the cruise.

Whilst being a new member may render you ignorant to the difference between an " offical " cruise, and a cruise organised and permitted on the forums under the use of SAU cruise policies, it does not render you ignorant of common sense. Having a small dirt road access myself, out here in the sticks, i can tell you that if my skyline was lowered i would be keeping it at my girlfriends house, up the road on sealed road access. Just common sense.

In saying that, the cruise organiser is in no way obliged to pay you a cent for the damages you racked up driving your car down an unsealed road. There was no documents signed accepting responsibility or liability for damage.

I am not defending the cruise organiser either. Committing to an unsealed road section for the cruise is just bizarre, and regardless of good intentions, stupid. There should have been notice and alternative routes in place with leading cars and a waiting place/alternative photo stop.

Obviously, some things have been politically said in the heat of the moment, but at the end of the day no one was holding a gun to your head. I wish your car a speedy recovery and perhaps with this experience in tow a better event for the organiser in the future.

I totally get what you mean but if you were there you would understand, if I did a U turn there the car would be stuck and a tow truck would be needed and worse damage would be done to the car, the best way there and I believe anyone who was there would agree with me is to just crawl in where the first avaliable place to do a u turn and come out by crawling again and I made several stop during the crawling and the car behind me kept an eye on my car as well, it was not becos I think "they can go in so I can go as well" I didn't get any chance to get out! The first avaliable place to do a u turn was where we stopped any point before that I would totally ruined my car. What really happened was the car is already f**ked up and I did what's best to reduce the damage, I didn't go all the way because I think I maybe can and blame the organiser later, I couldn't do anything back there! The orginiser was lucky I didn't punch him right in the face and if I see him again I will and one punch will not be enough! Im not joking and if you think I'm threatening him you are not wrong! Yes! I am threatening him! That's how serious and angry I am And I am really pissed off now. And please don't say things like you know everthing and others are just idiots, after all it is my car and you think I would do anything to harm it?! I choose to go in as that was the minimum damage could be done on my car! Hope that clear things a bit! And I do thank you for your reply and concerns about my car I really appreciate that!

  12. Was at JLM with Jun earlier - The rear exhaust flange was hit hard - and bend the rear flange... car been left there to check further if that would impact anything else to the system... The rear diffuser - bent as well as the flat part of the diffuser bent and scratched pretty badly... Front Lip chipped paint and the part where it locks to the bumper cracked...

Overall the trip was ok in the beginning - But the offroad section we were not informed off - I think that was the main issue as we all were not informed, we could have chosen not to participate in the offroad section...

Also would have needed a sweeper that knows the locations at the back of the group... That would help in avoiding people from getting lost.. Jun, My friend Gavan and myself was left behind after lunch, was slow as i had to put my kid into the car seat and Jun was blocked by another car - Gavan and myself waited for Jun before we joined back with the group further up - we just did a guess and drive moment there...

Either way - after much consideration, i just wanted to mention the above so that the next cruise could be arranged better...

Thanks for put this up mate, I was rushing to work this afternoon and had no chance to update anything till now, the car is left at JLM as they want to do a further check on the car as they think if the exhaust had hitten that hard there is a possibility that the turbo part is damaged as well, if so im looking at a 10,000+ fix and that's even excluding the front bumper and lip repaint, and I'm saying this again, we were forced to go in at that point, no worning, no sigh, nothing at all, and there was no way to make a U turn or back the car out. And I am and will send the invoice to this events organiser and please don't tell me this is not an official SAU event or something like that to avoid responsibility as for a new member like me this event just looks like an official event to me! I would put much more thought if this is not an official event!
  13. The reason why we turned in together was, when you are following a car to the middle of nowhere - suddenly you put a signal and turn in - we all went in together - for the first 500m - no problem - then it started to get really bad... and as you know - i think to reverse back or to turn back at that point would be quite difficult...

I think BEFORE we were even in that situation - we should have been informed - then the choice would have been clearer and easier to make

This is pretty much it! It wasn't like we stopped at the beginning of the turn and let people choice whether we want go in or not, it just happened in 5 seconds and the first 500m didn't look too bad and we all stick pretty close to each otherand there was just no way I can back off there, if you were there you would understand. When I made that turn there is no f*&king way I know we going to an off-road, when you in a skyline cruise, off-road would be the very very last thing to think about! That was pure stupidity!
  14. Thanks guys....... Had a great day.... Sorry I couldn't make the last part of the journey to Patonga but I had to get home.

Here are a few of my crappy iPhone pics and I'm already looking forward to the next run.

    Cheers,

    Bob

Nice photo Bob, and that ADM R32 looks great.

The first half of the trip was wonderful.

That off-road part really surprised me tho... Like.. RRRRRREEEEEEEAAAAAAALLLLLLLLY...

TBH I did freak out a bit, when I finished the off-road part I was about to cry.

It had all sorts of crazy noises around the car even after we head back on normal road.

But after almost an hour of high way road all the noises have gone, the wind must blew all the sands, dust and small rocks away, hope there is nothing wrong with the car.

Still... a great day with a bit of terrifying.
