  1. haha yeh Mick, just a street car for an old bloke but still fun..

    Do you know anything about the HKS Turbo Timer, it seems to have a timing capability , not sure how accurate they would be but somewhere to start I guess.At least I could see if I was getting the times down??

    Might try and do a day at Eastern Creek on the ARDC days, but getting there is the problem, got kids to look after and 4 hours to get there, have to spend a day or 2 in Sydney

    I will keep up the practice and see where it leads :)

  2. Hi Mick, it was too late for your advise but you were spot on, did the 7k launch, on practically new Perelli 255/40x18, crazy span all 4 through 1st, fishtailed a bit and into 2nd span some more let it off a bit and away it went.

    I then did it at 6k and that was a better, still too much , 5.5k worked the best, just enough spin, then off it went.

    The AWKW is not much more than with the original T78, 7.6 AWKW extra with the PT6262, Poncam B, new exhaust and tuned for response, but it is just such a different car now :)

    Thanks again for your constructive help. So many just say take it to 7k or 8k and step off or drop the clutch and that was not helpful

    Pete

  3. Sounds good XKLABA and with the power you have I should not have a problem following your advice, saying that, cars are cars and anything can happen but it takes some of the unknown away.

    Even at 4k ish I have been getting a little spin and it has been taking off without bogging down since my my new exhaust system was fitted. I will let you know how the 7k launch goes later today :)

    It was also suggested that a softer clutch like a Nismo Coppermix, twin or triple would take a little stress off the driveline, maybe after I have used the OS Quad up I will go in that direction.

    Great advice and this thread is very helpful for us newbies.

    Thanks :)

  4. Hmmm. Now I don't own a 345 kw gtr but I do believe I own a 340kw gtr. Oh I've also launched it countless times at 7k.

    Also, if you do some more research you will find that the driveline is very strong. However, if you don't preloaded your driveline prior to launching then there is a much higher probability of you breaking something.

    Hi, I did a bit of research and like everything with this type of thing, 1/2 say do this and the other 1/2 will say the opposite, so ????

    You say you have a 340AWK GTR. I would guess mine could be more responsive than yours and there is not much difference between the KWs 345 & 340 but I had them modify mine for response and not worry about getting high Dyno readings .

    When I bought my GTR it was 337.9AWKW, I expected great things, got crap all and I did launch it at 8k at least 10 times and it was still laggy as sh@t and without launching it the worst car I have ever driven for response and I have owned some heaps of sh@t in my life. BUT I must say once the T78 kicked in it was mad but not a DD machine.

    I do the same launch now, get the revs I want , let the clutch take up the slack and let it go, I have to say with the Quad clutch there is not much slack to take up ,lol.

    Since I modified my car I can do the same thing at 4k/5k and it is so much better than the 8k as it was before I had it modified and tuned for response.

    I think I used a little common sense when I launched it from the start and loaded the driveline, but at that time I did not know what a driveline or loading it, meant, it just seemed a smarter thing to do rather than just booting it slack, sorry I do not know the terminology for this type of thing

    These cars seem to be exceptional and totally over engineered from the get-go to be able to do this type of thing to them and on a regular basis .

    Thanks for your input it all helps me get a better idea about the R3s

  5. Still need to start somewhere, I know SFA about launching a R34 GTR and what the driveline can take.

    Motor,clutch and diff no problems. BUT gearbox and drive shafts ????

    SO your advise is go hard every time and hold on, YIPPEEEEE!

    Sh@t you blokes must have a S load of money.

    I just love that advise, that is what I want to do , BUT I would like to know what is a stupid way to launch and what is a better way, well, and be able to do it often.

    I just thought that my car is not a 1000HP beast I can still have some fun with 345AWKW without FNit it just for fun.

    So any educated guesses welcome and after I stuff it up what are the best gearbox setups to get LOL :)

  6. Great thread, I have been practicing doing soft launches at 4k to 5k and now I have the car responding better it is great feeling. Done about 30+.

    I only have 345AWKW but set up and tuned for response, have an OS Quad clutch and I wait until I feel the clutch start to bite and let it go, it seems to work fine.

    Been very worried about stuffing the box up but from what I have read I might build the revs to 7k and see what happens, then maybe more if everything is still in the right place LOL :)

    Been told I would be better of with a Nismo coppermix type, twin or triple as they are a bit more forgiving when launching on standard drive-line

    Any help appreciated

  7. Pete,

    I'm just finishing off a carbon fibre custom catch can setup, got mines baffles and -12AN speedflow lines to help everything breath a bit better.

    Saying that it's almost finished and once all assembled will be dropped off for head removal and the last few bits going in.

    I'll update this thread with results as soon as it hits the rollers.

    First half of the catch can setup for those interested in pics

    Cheers Noy

    Hi Noy

    Like to see the results when you are finished, as for me I am done with the mods, the car is driving very well for a DD and that is what I wanted . I have a 350GT Skyline (Jap Import), I put APS Twin Turbo system on it and with the extra torque it made the R34GTR seem crappy and it was a "thing" to drive BUT all good now :)

    One thing left to do I am putting 18" Advan RS-D , machine lip/ gloss black spokes, have a look on their site and tell me what you think

    Pete

  8. Well had the exhaust done, did not pick up much power but it helped where I wanted it, response.

    since I changed the Turbo,Cams and Exhaust the car has gone from a pig to drive to being fun, enough up top and good bottom response,street drive :)

    Here is the latest Dyno

    New Dyno 345.4 KW

    Red = Boost off

    Blue = Low Boost

    Orange = High Boost

    Old T78 = 337.9KW

  9. Hi, I am starting to rebuild mine for response, in the Dyno charts, the BROWN is with the new PT6262 Turbo and Poncams B.260 9.15 and tune, 333.9 AWKW, BLUE is with the old T78 337.9 AWKW. Lost top power but low end is much better, good response

    They said the car was getting modified for track and was a work in progress, I want a DD with grunt :)

    1999 R34GTR

    PT6262 turbo

    HKS EVO 6 Boost Controller

    Tomei poncams B 260 9.15

    ATI balancer + damper

    nitto h beam connecting rods

    je/nitto forged pistons

    nitto drag head gasket

    ARP head stud/main stud kit

    Head work

    nitto high volume oil pump

    9Lt sump conversion

    Ni water pump

    splifire pack

    Exhaust mods,HKS dump pipe

    Os Giken quad clutch

    Nismo 2-way LSD

    Having a stainless custom Exhaust system made for a more free flowing system, Walbro 460Lt fuel pump and Haltech Pro R34GTR ECU installed with Tune, hoping for more response and with the fuel upgrade can be tuned up for more overall power, but will give top end up for response.

    Just had the exhaust done, new dyno

    Red = Boost off

    Blue= Low Boost

    Orange= High Boost

  10. so it takes 23psi to make 333kws thought it would be running close to 350-360kws at that boost pressure is yours twin scroll? Dave hurry and chuck the results for the RB25 on twinscroll.

    Expected 350-360 as well, said the exhaust is very restrictive , having a custom done.

    It was also having a fuel problem, not sure if this made any difference??

  12. Totally different car, early response, smooth power on bends and keeps going. It was good to find out how good they can be and if I want, I can make it even better, well the $ can :)

    I never had much of a chance to drive it after the work was done, 3 hours into the trip home the Apexi ECU lost the new Tune, about 45 Klms from home on a bush road, cars eh, haha

    Will be interesting to see how much more responsive the new exhaust system makes it, any extra will be great.

    With the fuel supply upgraded it can be tuned up as the motor has been worked and the extras added to support the power it is capable of. But I am not after top end power, just early and whatever else comes with the new work.

  13. I recently changed my T78 for a PT6262(help from SAU) and installed Poncams B because it was not a car you want to have for a DD. It was laggy as hell and with the quad OS clutch was a pig in traffic, especially on hills.( did miss that neck snap when the T78 kicked in at around 5.5Ks up into 9Ks) I can only imagine what a 1000HP machine would feel like, whooow :)

    Here are the Dynos , brown PT6262 new tune, it is a different car to drive. The quad clutch is no longer a problem with the extra torque down low, just love it :)

    Going to have a custom exhaust system installed as it is bit restrictive, Walbro 460LPH fuel pump and a Haltech Pro R34GTR ECU , the ECU is because my Apexi FC is playing up and nothing to do with trying to get low end power.

    After this has been completed and on the Dyno I will post the new chart, hope it is what I am after, a gutsy street car.

  14. It's not hard or expensive to have a properly designed and made exhaust that flows well and is quiet all the time.

    But I suppose people like the gimmick that the varex is

    I am going your way, going to have a custom exhaust made, 3.5inch stainless, quality cat that lets it flow but not attracting the attention of the boys in blue :)Live in a small town and nowhere to hide :(

    Once it is done and tested I will post the particulars, it may be of interest to someone ?
