  1. Never heard of them but pad knock back is more likely caused by suspension flex around the axle. Full floating rotors will help stop this, they are flexibly mounted so they move with the flex rather than oppose it. Ceika kits for one have this as an option together with anti knock back springs.

  2. The big advantage with a electronic valve instead of manual is a dash light can be used to indicate immediately the valve opens. For my setup I'd basically shut the engine down if I saw the light which in a racing situation may be a second or so. Which means that the Accusump is used to avoid a momentary no oil situation, nothing more.

    Yeah I dislike anything that gets between me and what's going on and that includes peripherical vision. Just got a FIA balaclava but apparently the FIA is not concerned with vision and the safety mafia say You Will Wear It.

  4. Ceika sell online and have a good cattledog with various options. Just like all the real brand alternatives they come from Taiwan and even offer carbon fibre rotors. I have bought one set and will buy another for a non Nissan, they are good shit.

    As far as rotor diameters go on a 1450 kg FERWD car I'm going for 345x32 front, 304x22 rear which according to calculations should balance well.

  5. It's easy to run too much brake, think of the extra unsprung and rotating weight. Super big brakes seem to have become a bit of a fashion statement together with large diameter wheels that also add weight. Pads and cooling are the key, using the best pads can in effect mean that less brake weight and expense is required.

  6. Putting a loom through the firewall means cutting a new hole of course but the problem then is 'will everything fit through the hole'? Cutting new holes through the firewall is generally a bad idea anyway, particularly if the aim is just to save a bit of wiring length. Ignoring any re plugging that will be required, eek.

  7. My diff is, I think, out of a S15 and has a shimmed solid pinion gear spacer. Others have a crushable spacer which does not need shims. My first question is, can the crushable spacer be used instead of the shimmed solid spacer? Second question concerns parts availability, I've been told that one particular bearing is a Nissan special which is only available from Nissan and has been unavailable for months. 

    A complete kit is needed, bearings, spacer and seals. Any reliable sources?

    Full electric cars will replace them, not petrol.  ICE (internal combustion engine) are near on done.  There will be minimal investment on diesel/petrol engines within the next few years.  Whether we like it or not electric cars are the future.  There are going to be massive issues/challenges to start with but by 2030 it will be incredibly hard (impossible?) to buy an ICE vehicle.

    I've never driven a Tesla but the Jaguar I-Pace I've driven was awesome!  Incredibly acceleration and handling.  The obvious issues are (seeing this is a towing thread!) will be towing range.  I'm sure they'll be all over that by 2030 but lots of work to be done.

    For all of the great things that full electric cars bring it just won't be the same.....  Cue nostalgic music!

    The future is the future, right now electrics don't have anywhere the range to do a full day's towing. Bigger batteries are no where near the answer, it will require another revolution in electric storage to get there. Meanwhile good ole petrol does the job.

    A friend of mine has a petrol Cherokee now up to 130,000 k and absolutely no problems at all.

  10. Have a CX-5 2.5 turbo AWD now, rated tow load is 2000 kg and it tows like a bitch, seriously. Great overtaking power and very stable near the 2000 kg limit. Technology has moved on, another left fielder is the Jeep Cherokee V6 petrol but only a 60 litre fuel tank and it's thirsty.

    No response from any of the sellers contacted to try to confirm that 30 spline 6x1 hole stubs will fit. Pffft, its only a couple of grand, why bother?

    OSG diff for an S15 helical MUST have different stub axles to their product for S14. The helical diffs do not have odd length stubs like the viscous pooballs do.

    Could be a S15, have had it for at least 10 years, memory. The 30 spline stubs I have are the same length.

    OS giken do not make any 30 spline for S13 -S15, 29 spline only, they make you go back from a 30 to a 29 if you've got an S15 and hence why you got what you got. That's even shittier as you won't be able to use any GTR half shaft or axle.

    Brings you back around to a 30 spline option like a Cusco, Kaaz or Nismo diff, if you want to use your existing 30 spline 6 X 1 half shafts and axles.

    I've been looking at the linked OSG page where they indicate that their D-NA402061405-S replaces the S15 OE helical using the helical stubs, see https://www.osgiken.co.jp/pro_lsd/nissan.html

    Am asking a few sellers if that LSD has 30 splines, my head is spinning.

    If the only difference between the various 30 spline stubs is the number/disposition of bolt holes then the OSG replacement for the helical should fit shouldn't it?

  16. My diff is supposed to be out of a S14, OSG list their replacement for various S14/15 helicals, no stub axle change required. Normally I would assume that my helical stubs would suit. Incidentially my helical stubs fit a unknown model GT-R LSD I have so it could be assumed that that LSD if from a early R32.

    But every time I assume something it turns out wrong so ................
