  1. I wish I'd seen this post sooner. I had a look at some of the android aps and didn't feel convinced which (if any) would work with the V35 - the above would have given me some confidence about buying something. In the end I bought a dedicated scan tool - I bought a Launch CRP123X on ebay. It seems to have done the trick. David
  2. Hi All, I'm after a OBD scan tool for my V35. Most of the previous recommendations are out of date but there is a used Maxidiag JP701 for sale in the US. If anyone has any recent experiences successes I'd love to hear them. All I can see is it needs to talk J1979. David
  3. I have a V35 with VQ25DD engine that has a P0130 code - "Air fuel ratio sensor bank 1". According to nissan.epc-data.com the part I need is a 22690AL600. Am wondering if anyone has a lead on where to get one, and/or can recommend an aftermarket replacement. David
  4. Again for the benefit of future searches, cleaning the fuel sender on the passenger side (I followed a video on YouTube) seems to have sorted out the fuel gauge issue. David
  5. I've been recommended John Psaltis at 104 Old Pittwater Road in Brookvale. He has a good workshop and knows his stuff – his number is 9939 2262. To be clear, I haven't used him myself - he is on my list of places to call if I need something done however. David
  6. For the benefit of people searching for solutions in the future, I found the following: 1. The problem with the indicator mimic lights in the cluster was caused by a dry joint on the cluster PCB. I traced the indicator LEDs to a common SMD resistor - the soldering looked OK but when I thought I'd resolder it anyway, since I'd come so far. As I pushed on one end with the soldering iron tip to apply heat, the part moved - it was not soldered well on the other end. Having found one fault I went over the rest of the large resistors on the PCB and found quite a few like this. 2. The up and down shift "buttons" started working after the fault codes were cleared - the check engine light was on. I'd say the functionality is inhibited whenever the check engine light is on as a means to give you incentive to get the car fixed. The check engine light problem is I think due to a faulty brake vac sensor. FYI I have yet to figure out the fuel gauge or boot light issues. David
  7. I tried running the test - the fuel gauge meter comes up to about half way, points to a wiring issue.
  8. good to know, I'll look it up, thanks.
  9. Thanks for the suggestions. Last night I took out the back seat and disconnected the electrical harnesses on both sides - didn't make any difference to the fuel gauge, it went straight to full when I turned on the ignition. Unless it averages the value over time (hence takes a while to drop) this would seem to rule out the sender. Will remove the cluster on the weekend.
  10. Hi All, I recently purchased a V35 with a few electrical issues: 1. The indicator lights in the cluster sometimes dont work - I found that tapping on the top of the cluster when they're not working usually gets them to turn on. clearly an intermittent connection somewhere. 2. The up and down shift "buttons" dont do anything. (by buttons I mean pushing the gearstick over to the left then briefly forward or backward). 3. The fuel gauge is stuck at full. could be the sender. 4. The boot light doesn't work with a new bulb. Where is the switch BTW? If anyone has any experience with the above I'd love to hear what you found. However what I'd really like is a wiring diagram. Can anyone direct me to where one might be found? David
  11. I tried that - the company is "Complete Compliance Pty Ltd" - the business name is still registered but they dont come up as a vehicle inspection company any more.
  12. Thanks, sent them an email. I suspect it has been imported by someone other than Nissan or Infiniti - It's not listed under Nissan and the list of Infiniti cars doesn't go back that far.
  13. Hi all, Am trying to re-register a V35 in NSW. The car has an import compliance plate and it looks like it's been registered in Australia previously. The mechanic wants to see the RVD information, but I cant find it. The information should be on the RTA web: https://myrta.com/rvd/searchRVD.do (select "Post 1999 search" twice, select make = "car", then make = say "Nissan", then click "search") However I cant find it under any of the Nissan or Infiniti entries. I'm thinking maybe they were imported by some other company - anyone have any ideas who might have imported them, or where I can find the paperwork? David
  14. I spent a bit of time trying to find the source of the noise, with and without a piece of garden hose. I dont think its the timing chain, I think its coming from underneath the intake plenum on the passenger side. Am guessing its an incorrect valve clearance. I'll take the intake plenum and rocker cover off tomorrow and poke around with feeler gauges. I see it uses shims. Are these hard to get? Where do you get them from - is amayama.com OK or is there somewhere better? I guess I'll also replace the spark plugs and I'll probably need some gaskets.
  15. Hi All, I have a Skyline V35 with VQ25DD engine (215000km) that has engine noise. The internet says its probably the timing chain, and it sounds like it to me. Runs OK otherwise. Is it possible to verify this is the cause before spending too much time/money on it? Am thinking perhaps I remove the small covers on each side of the timing chain cover (over the camshaft sprockets) and look inside. Not sure what to measure once I'm there however. Assuming it is the timing chain I see a couple of options: 1. Fix the chain. Does anyone have any recommended kit brands and/or suppliers? 2. Replace the engine. Not many good ones around however. Is it possible to fit any other engines eg VQ25DE or perhaps a 3.0 or even 3.5L variant? Not too interested in spending a lot of time reprogramming ECUs. David
