  1. All up, probably 8 hours for both sides. Fully removed any trace of visible spot rust, rust converter just in case and then redid it all with rust primer and top coat. Bit of a mission, rust wasn't awful but this should be a solid band-aid. Few spots I couldn't get to without a lot more work- but thankfully looks very early stages of rust, so i'll address them at a later stage.
  2. So, I have a cheapo manifold (high mount) that was on the car when I bought it. Stainless steel. It was removed, found to be warped, and skimmed (by a very average machine shop) and refitted. It's now cracked, so I had it rewelded, and it was noticed afterwards that it's warped - AGAIN. Problem is, it looks like it can't be skimmed again, as it's past the flange and now going into the pipes. The whole exhaust and custom wastegate setup was designed around this manifold, so i'd love to reuse it to save $. Photo attached shows the piping poking through (lol) Thoughts? Skim or Bin? Cheers!
  3. Update: got a bit crazy. Stripped, wire wheeled, sealed, primed and painted. The paint doesn't match super well, and I noticed the paintjob in my bay is uneven- is this normal? Some sections look almost unpainted. Anyway- here is what it took to prep it all. Big mission! !
  4. Just thought i'd update on my plan to address. i've got some Sikaflex 227, rust converter, some rust proof primer, and a (hopefully) matching paint spray can. Went for DSD42 DupliColour. Plan is to wire wheel all effected areas back to bare metal, to assess damage. If it's very deep I might be in the shit- but if it's only mild/moderate, i'll be applying rust converter, wiping clean, seam sealing, priming and painting all effected areas, are stripping the rust off using drill + wire wheel I also plan to soon paint the wheel arches or even full underbody to prevent any more water entering, as i'm assuming this is where 95% of the issue arises from, especially without guard liners. Will update once i've done this. Planning on doing a bunch of other general resto work (headlight open + clean etc) so hopefully I can update within a few days.
  5. Thought so- thanks, seemed like the obvious choice but the OEM stuff seems almost like it's some sort of plastic.
  6. Summed it up nicely- thanks mate. What product would be best suited to use to reseal?
  7. The problem is- whats a band aid fix? And what's considered proper lol
  8. Probably due to living 3km from the beach. Paint has faded too- at lot in the past 2 years, despite it being in shade regularly. Especially for a white car- paint fade is odd. I'm guessing the rust and fade is related to salty air. Any solutions to prevent this occuring?
  9. I hope not! Car was rust free when I bought it 2-3 years ago. Guessing it had some but never got up to the surface. I made sure to buy a 'rust free' example- lol.
  10. When the stock 25DET goes pop, i'll be pulling it out and redoing the bay then. I hope the rust repairs are doable DIY. The cost some places apparently charge is way, way out of budget.
  11. I don't know if i'd call it superficial. Looks pretty crap
  12. Damn. So not an easy or cheap job. This car is so damn expensive as is, I can barely afford it 😭
  13. Hello all, R33 Skyline has a bit of rust. Never really noticed it, as car hasn't been driven in a long while- but there is a lot more rust than I expected. These photos are mostly of the portion of the wheel arch toward the front of the car, in front of the strut tower. Usually where the air filter sits- hence haven't noticed them as there was an airbox in there. Basically, is this repairable? In the wheel arch it has not penetrated through, but it doesn't look good to me- and I don't know if it's even repairable. Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing? I'm quite worried. Cheers Passenger side underneath near air filter location (photo flipped) Drivers side between fuse box+strut tower Next to import vin plate below strut tower Passenger side seam weld, strut tower to the right side of picture (airfilter sits here) Passenger side next to strut tower
