The Shaker is the truck-mounted piece of machinary that you drive your car up onto. When operational, it simulates severe driving conditions that are more indicative of driving down the OLD toll bar road (as in straight down) instead of a potholed piece of narrow bitumen (often referred to by QT as a 'highway'). It was designed to be used with trucks and full-chassis vehicles, but some lame-brain has decreed to use it with all vehicles. Monocoque-design vehicles -can- handle the punishment, but it can cause stress fractures. The new car that was destroyed happened because the inspector from QT did not close the car door before the test began - and since the doors and front & rear windows are what give new cars their structural integrity.... well - you can guess what happened.... Transport disavowed all responsibility and told the bloke to contact the manufacturer because it was a faulty vehicle. The manufacturer told him that it was QT's fault because they hindered the ability of the car to observe its structural integrity (by not closing the door). Bloke is left in the middle out of pocket with a hot potato.

Has anyone had to have their car put on the shaker ? I heard that you can refuse and demand a machinary instead ... Can't it totally screw up your car ? Thanks

I didn't think it possible to go with the supplied setup - I thought that was just to get your car started so it can be tuned ?

Make sure you do go to a good tuner though - I have heard some horror stories. I can't speak highly enough of Paramount Performance in Toowoomba. They really did a good job.

The off boost drivability is magic. It is just like a N/A. I didn't think it possible and I thought my tuner was bullsh&tting me when he said it would be better than it was before. When the revs hit nearly 4,000 is when the power magic happens. (I also got a 500hp turbo installed)

I had an LT12 put in about 2 weeks ago. Bloody brilliant. The best money I have ever spent on my car !

He has written a few articles for autospeed.com about GTR's. He hates R32 GTRs. He said R33 GTR's are OK, but nothing to write home about. This was his first ever article where he gave the GTR some credit.

The editor says about his drive the next day in a R34 GTR - "And with the drive scheduled for the next day, did I have trouble sleeping the night before? Nope. In fact, it filled me with - literally - about as much excitement as I would have had when facing the prospect of driving any car that's new to me. Like a Hyundai Getz, for example." Now read what he says after his drive... "But in the way it went around corners - not just in speed but in feedback and communication and predictability - was something I have never before experienced. Absolutely blindingly good. A true redefiner of benchmarks. And I sure have never said that before of anything with a 'GT-R' badge. Finally, here is a car that lives up to the hype."

thats a hyge difference !!! Car, you would think, would rev bloody quickly ! Would that make the car more of a pig to drive ?

Thanks for the info , what brand of flywheel are most people using (who have the aftermarket ones) and what sort of money would I be looking at ? Also, what sort of power increase do you normally get ?

Hey rev210, got the turbo i was talking to you (I think) about & computer. now make 198kw at wheels !!. Low boost as well (12lb) as I haven't yet got a air temp meter. When have that winding up to 17lb !!! Soon get the variable cam gears & maybe the underdrive...

The performance shop I go to put a 'carbon clean' through a R33 and gained 9kW!! Mine gets done tomorrow. $130 though.

He just said that the rex's don't respond well to the microtechs. I think he uses Unichips for rex's but I am not 100%. He uses Microtechs in just about everything else though. He's tuning an 8.5sec chev tomorrow night. The dyno should be interesting...

That sounds great. After the 9 week wait, you can imagine how keen I was to get the LT-12 installed. IT bloody broke my heart when I got the phone call saying my turbo was rooted. The tuner said that is was the best thing I could possibly do now. (without spending a fortune) It's Terry from Paramount. He currently owns the 2nd fastest 6 in Australia - 9.7secs. He wants to run my car at 14psi. They sell alot of Microtech's but they don't put them in Rex's. BTW, How does your car go against a stock WRX or a stock STi ?

Freebaggin, That is the computer I'm getting. It took 9 weeks to get from the time of order !!! How much better was your car in performance/general running compared to the original? e-boost <- thats the one I beeing advertised pretty heavily. Rob77, thanks for the advice. It is a slow process, you don't realize how many threads there are till you start going through 'em !

The guy at the performacnce centre actually chose a turbo this arvo. I will get the specs tommow. I know it is rated to 500hp and can easily be boosted to 20lb. it is $2300 + fitting (approx $400) - (I just have to sell my TV/stereo/video camera first - lol, so I can afford it.) He said later on I can then up the injectors and do something simple to the turbo (I forget what he said) and "It will really get crackin" He mentioned 300HP at the wheels !!

Freebaggin, No it's not stuffed. Actually what happend was I had an alarm fitted, and the when I got the car back all the boost settings were gone and it was a real pain to reset everything. Real pain. A mate offered me $500 for it (an old BMW he has done up - 12 seconds !!) and the guy at the performance centre said that I didn't need it when the Microtech was fitted so I took the cash. Aparently I can bet a much better one for $800 if I realy wanted one. (not sure what brand though - Autospeed.com have been advertising them lately)

Actually DREMEN, I never thought about it that way ! I don't drive slowely - I just don't race the car at the strip. When computer, "TURBO" etc are done though I will see what I can do the 1/4 in though... I want to see how I go against some of the hot Starlets/GTiR's/etc that are around Toowoomba !! Hi Lachlan, To cut a very long story short, my car dealer missdiagnosed an oil leak from the turbo area of car. Nothing to worry about I was told. Fix at next service. Said a oil pipe must have gone brittle. They do that with the heat etc... I ordered a Microtech ECU and decided to get everything tuned, services etc when the computer came in. This however took about four months. When the service guy took the housing of the Turbo to fix leak, he discovered that the seal was rooted and there was a HEAP of 'play' in there. (I could presssomething in and out that I shouldn't have been able to) He even refuses to drive the car in his workshop as he is scared the turbo will break/seize (whatever they do when wrecked !) I had the boost set on standard. I do not drive hard at all. I have never raced my car. However I now believe the previous owner did. It used to have a HKS EVC with boost set to 12psi. I am now selling that. It has a huge intercooler now. Fuel cut off defender ??? POD, and I think a heap of other stuff. The mechanic said 'My car should be sponcered by HKS !!' I am really annoyed at the moment as I have to pay for a new turbo just four months after I bought the car. Even though the thing was on the way out when I bought the car ! Sorry for this rant, but I am left with a sick feeling in my stomach over all this... I don't know who to blame - me for not knowing anything about these cars when I bought it or the car dealer seeing me coming ! Thanks Guy
