  1. oh and lawyer sed its easier to make up a contract based on liability, where u can fiddle with it as much as u want, once you drive off the premises youre on your own. Suddenly fineprint begins to make sense cos this doesnt cover alot.
  2. asked a lawyer about this IP thing, basically youre right and yes its a grey area, but if the tuner makes you sign an agreement that he has performed the job, and touching it would void his contract. Youre screwed!! (if u do) cos all of a sudden its your IP and you performed the tune as well. But if things go wrong this contract is on your side/benefit cos you can discuss how to fix......... Oh and they wont refuse you access but put 'barriers' that you could take off if you insist, but they as a business dont have to know you after that. Also mentioned that nothing is 'actually' yours unless you can reproduce it. Its licenced to someone else. so apexi would be the only one who could have a strong case for refusing to disclose the tune. Was confused by this stage cos the IP you were referring to was the tune and not the ECU. Anyway He was looking at his watch so I kept it brief (might get billed LOL). Guess this is how the FCON approved thing works. cos their legally playing it safe. still looking at the baby z-tune site, but id be pissed off if I forked out for a Z-TUNE and saw one of these http://www.carsfactory.co.jp/packagecar/bnr34_fsgt.html wonder where gtst vspec is, remember telling him about rb26 R1 need beer!
  3. guess you should email http://www.autodata.ltd.uk/about.asp and ask them about a programme But you have to realise a single standard between all dynos will make the readings worse. unless they are all swiss made if u know what I mean. But I still get your point as ive seen different readings...........same car(weather maybe). I blame physics mostly Iwas just imagining if all tyres had the same standard tread, u would see ferraris on nankangs. standards within brands are what make the brand in the end, and the hardest person to fool is an engineer. So im guessing its credible cos they cant be where they are by luck.
  4. Im sure that will change somehow, Dont know how tho as I dont run a performance shop and my opinions will be hot air. I bet the dyno (dyno dynamics etc) which is the base tool in AUS tuning went through some stage of confusion before it somehow became standardised/regulated with the shootout mode. but I cannot comment on this just speculating. are we still on topic?
  5. easy to see why everything today is created so the consumer is busted when he starts getting curious. The notebook I am on is mine but if I screwed with its before my warranty run out it would practically call Steve Jobs mobile phone. Which is fine but try getting it fixed when I mess up and the terms change. Problem arises when its time to blame for the fault. you tune your car and get a dyno sheet that explains all the IProperty you have. and from exp, dont touch it Guess its a loophole in tuning thats yet to be covered. Theres too many double standards
  6. LOL @ rev, im sure you would be tempted by one. not trying to change anyones minds. but alot of people in a 2jz forum would disagree. guess its a skyline thing. If only those group A rules didnt exist we would never have the RB26 but a more flexible RB28. same way the WRX is at its best at 2.5 when for WRC reasons had to stick to 2.0. back to ECU/engines reimax got new stuff and have updated the 400R RBX 2.8L engine to handle 600hp and it seems like you can sort of build your own ztune from nismo (2.8L), but not get the chassis equipment lumpy rom seems to be the safest on the list when it comes to tampering
  7. sup TJ long time . this the kinda stuff that gets u into hot water/arguments, but the forum/import scene would be boring without u. I put safe in quotes for the reasons u stated, and if u set out to 'sabotage' any engine it will eventually give up, z-tune included which some of us consider the holy grail. and a lot of workshops offfer safe hp packages. since u are into subarus ill refer u to the litchfield which im sure you already know of http://www.type-25.co.uk/ thats one example i can mention. keets I agree with you and yes the workshops know what they are doing, but theres too many variations to achieve similar goals (I blame hyper rev). and we all know which ones work best but some ppl seem to ignore these just to be different. It would also be easy to cross the pits if all the packages were approved by some govt body. We can drink and argue this one day so its a customer problem (regarding the fiddling) and not a tuners issue, Cos I dont think anybody has a right to fiddle with a tune after it has been performed. At some stage we need to seperate DIY from this section of mods and realize your fiddling with 30k or whatever you paid for your car. Guess power FCs/EBC should come with passwords. and yes the 25k mods sign would scare away folks, thats why I predicted bankwrupcy. but 'buffet mods' would reduce costs eventually. and it doesnt have to be major stuff. Bolt on parts should come in kits as well.
  8. ok then dont get the damn fridge not directing this to you personally but a forum member would hav 2 be a doorknob to take their car to any supposedly bad tuners, as dan/liz would say use the search function and see whose recommended. Its 2007 man move on with the small criticisms cos they dont help this forum on the long run (just an opinion) unless its first hand knowledge.. Steve has a point and for once I agree with him. Established performance workshops we use have a good rep to maintain and thats non bias outlook of the workshops, which is rare from the Steve I remember from a few years ago. And he has come from far to say that abate the politics/happenings and personal opinions, so ill respect his word. and yes I have been on the bagging line but ive grown up. Modifying is playing roulette to an extent, PERIOD!!! show me a pro athlete who uses his body to extremes who doesnt keep fit/suffer injuries, the mechanicals of a car can be judged to the same extent. just expect the best as things going wrong are part and parcel........ Ive seen mates of mine fit huge turbos and other HP gainers without compensating for the hp with bigger fuel/water/cooling systems etc thinking cos they have forged pistons its indestructible or worse stock internals on tired engines. I see a recipe for disaster from the initial stage (owner). not after the tune is done, and blame both paries to a certain degree. But I better not dwell on it. another spends a lot of coin making sure the bottom end is bulletproof, when something eg bearings give up and the story goes on. lesson= if we want mad HP expect a learning curve or buy a crate engine. Maybe its time workshops start offering packages with stages of 'safe' BHP gain and the hardware to match so theres less room for error+ easier maintanance. plus refuse to touch randomly modified cars with lacking 'hardware'. If I owned a workshop id try this as my policy and probably go bankwrupt but I reckon mods will end up cheaper if someone dares to adopt this policy LOL at the PFC/FCON thats like gettin a commodore 64 or atari when theres PS3s around ps: sorry for venturing a little out off topic. poll shows powerfc is fav choice so tofu.................
  9. just get the engine/VIN number and registration and call REVS http://www.revs.nsw.gov.au/buyguide/private.htm they will let you know there is money owing etc and you basically have to write two checks and proceed as arkon stated. make sure the car is under your name before handing any cheques over i.e perform transfer of car/money in a bank where eventually everybodys got peace of mind and nobody can get screwed. Oh and call revs back and make sure its out of their list. good luck BTW give us details of the car u r speaking of, maybe forum ppl know it
  10. might as well leave/keep the stock one.
  11. LOL sup neighbour!!, well if u running serious HP theres no substitute. dont want to get into details cos im not a geek at the specs. lets just say its like a MAC-PRO with 16GB of ram and dual processers with killer software compared to the average dell running win 98 (im exaggerating). but I think the fuel management makes it stand out. so if you are running *** hp with 9500+ RPM/36 PSI at different conditions where the engine can self destruct in a snap id invest in one. theres also the non pro version for light tune and the F con SZ etc
  12. ah cool, didnt know there was a new one, anyway im in asia now and wondering if i should buy parts for profit
  13. well I understand where you are coming from. But I normally knew/ had an idea of what I wanted before going to a shop, found that doing the research myself would make life easier for all parties, that way my questions were'nt half as stupid, and most of the explaining you mention would make sense to me instead of sounding like rocket science. And it was easier to judge what's BS from fact. Your theory comes to effect when theres a lot of variables of the same product e.g getting a manifold made which can be a cheap (china) process or a very expensive (steel 316-321/inconel) one. so unless its a custom based job it should be straightforward without need for explanations. On another note If they had time to talk to me and tell me all the great stuff they could do for a fraction of the price and returned all my calls then end up screwing my transmission (true story) , id call that bad customer service.
  14. http://www.carsfactory.co.jp/packagecar/index_bnr34.html had it bookmarked for ages, thought Id post before deleting. Did a search and found no info regarding this on forum
  15. dont know if tomei do reytec for r32 but that interface made me feel like jumping into the tuning biz but I got no skillz in numbers, way better than the excel looking interfaces on other laptops ive seen while on dyno. But it seems easy to use and tuners love it at first sight so invest in one if u can. And again up to your chosen tuner bro. Medicine can be poisonous if not prescribed i.e go see the best or preferred 'doctor' first depending on which of the two you take as priority. word of advise.......... Id go to the best tuner even if they normally dont smile/talk alot. I loved it when I saw a select few ppl walking into workshops like they were going into a spa, expecting tea or something. My opinion from experience is I'm not making friends with workshops, and they have no obligation to pamper me cos I'm spending any $$ as they are offering PRO services that I cannot perform (but if they did Id fully appreciate the gesture). Especially if they already have a good reputation of exceptional SKILL, If otherwise disregard my comments. Im getting a job done properly and possibly on time plus we probably will end up as friends after a good job done as a bonus or vice versa which may be due to a faulty car in the first place (part and parcel of modifying). At this point the job turns into professional service, then I get a invoice and the smile dissapears. But it all comes back when you hit the throttle. once again PFC= used it and loved it REYTEC= not on list but intesresting enuff to mention shit thought I was the only one awake
  16. whoa! finally. how much? f con v has to be my fav when I saw what it can do. Leaned out when the cars running rich and vice versa (an ecu that thinks). Hope crackheads dont find out its secret option (ignition without key). Prob why HKS have kept it exclusive to approved tuners. But fitting this to a light tune car is like buying size 12 shoes when u wear 8 Anyway to keep thread going PFC = and Lumpy Roms inventor tuning it of course (which says a lot about Glen's capability). Or Ant cos RB is his first name If you choose Wolf, Steves your man all the way Microtech? Im not sure about think ovaboost knows it inside out think that wraps up our options as Motec isnt included on list (good for track cars/monitoring driving tho with its real time wireless telemetry option) Ken recommends autronic so its got to be good I have basically recommended all which means that the tuner is more important than the ecu, when you realise this ECU choice should be easy. ECU's with all the features dont tune themselves, they might as well be a paperweight until they get on a dyno with a PRO on his laptop. And yes I know they have different features that are subject to the application, so if u cant live without antilag/rotational idle theres no guessing which one the tuner recommends. Question should be which ECU can I afford and live with and how much BHP can my bottom end handle. Looking at what other people have isnt the best guide as we all have different budgets and Hp goals. From dyno queens to daily drivers and drag/circuit cars. I wouldnt replace the former 33's PFC with a WOLF even if the fastest GTR ran 5 seconds with one as I drove more than 1/4 mile with the 33 and 100% NORMAL driveability was more important, or F con V as $7000 was a lil steep back in the day when it cost that much to instal and run. Did'nt mean I dont like these ECU's or thought they were inferior just meant they did not suit my 'lifestyle'. power fc was just like a stock ECU with a remote controller tucked away incase I need xtra hp(gets addictive checking the knock monitor though). Sorry for writing long ass BS but I've seen one too many threads asking similar questions and added feedback from myself and multiple import owners. And as I stated before the REYTEC prob will take over PFC's place when they go obsolete. And all of the mentioned ECU's are crap if you got kermit to tune them. cheers
  17. yeah matts cars quick as hell, but didnt like how he has to resart the engine on idle/traffic when it starts running rough (coughing). according to him its part and parcel of the ecu..........never experienced that with a pfc. BTW not bagging wolf as he is happy with the setup. just noting disadvantages . on another note. how big is autronic compared to wolf cos ease of installation(stealth) should also be considered. the wolf fails here big time power fc lovers should consider reytec ecu as its like a twin brother with a better interface for the tuner to enjoy
  18. couldnt agree more, PS: GTS-T's are easier to crash than the GTR's, they stop slower, corner worse and get to 180 just as fast as your GTR. Just dont get over confident (AHG) when u take your friends out for a ride. Do all the risky s**t (u know u will) by yourself. GTR's are one of the easiest cars to drive fast, that can be a good thing and a baaaddd thing. You're way more mature than some ppl replying to this post so I wont judge your luck by your age. l8r
  19. think he already bought it 3m
  20. technical terms, redline has high concentration of Molybdenum disulfide, which is eating the s**t out of whats left of the syncros man. call it hyperlube like graphite I reckon mixing lightweight and heavyweight Rline at a certain dosage will be the best/worst experiment, what u think rev? Steve try it!!!!!
  21. -with 4k-5k id be getting forged man. -sorry guys but redline gearbox oil is no good long term, esp on getrag gearbox, but keep using it if it works for you -If your syncros r gone they will need replacing (redline just hides this fact until more damage takes place). -castrol syntrax 75w/90 is safer overall.
  22. evolution R, supertec, xspeed(frontpipe2), exhaust torque(frontpipe1), and per4manz turbos will confirm all this PS:thanks alpinestars for compliment and yeah jezza1 u can PM me but I gave warny a full list of mods already and he knows his stuff Id buy it NIB: not trying to cause an argument just stating facts as I know it. Paul
  23. when u talk about 'he' who do u mean? im a lil confused cos ............. AH WELL!!! heres where THAT turbo came from WHEN I fitted it. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...493&hl=kidd sat in evolution R for a while, car getting other attention after that needed FULL rebuild(peace of mind). 'minimal' shaft play just didnt cut it Grant guaranteed it was 'better than new" fitted with adaptor and new front pipe internal gate didnt work(I was warned) thought it was avc-r (it wasnt) TIAL external gate custom fitted frontpipe custom made few issues solved (custom metal gaskets-manifold inspected for leaks etc) started missing old turbo(car was off road for total 6wks flat & in and out 3 weeks) rest is history moral of story= its cheaper to buy a new turbo kit (trust me)
  24. did not get it from rob 77 steve. surprised it is sick because the rebuild reciepts/wastegate custom job is less than a year old and been running 0.9 bar, but u would know better. As far as im concerned the turbo was perfect (talk to Grant hes the turbo expert and will show $$ worth of work). and the frontpipe was custom made by andre(xspeed)
