  2. If I was moving over 70kph in any heat I'd have no problem, but once I was sitting in traffic, the temp almost went off the scale!

The intake air going through an FMIC is cooler for sure, but being a heat exchanger the air coming in the front of the car gets heated, then hits the air-con, gets heated further, by that time the radiator's got no hope.

Most people don't have any trouble at all. Maybe I had one of the thermo's wired up backwards?:uh-huh:

  3. Nick,

I had a Hyperflow FMIC the same size you've got in about this time last year, but had to pull it out cause it made the motor boil sitting in traffic in early september:(

The mods I had to make were cutting a hole for the pipework under the washer bottle and modifying the front of the chassis rail with a hammer:D

  4. Nick,

-First pull out the grille (5 plugs)

-below the grille there's three scrivets that hold the bar to the metal subframe, there's also one underneath the centre scrivet, just behind the number plate

-Behind the plastic inner wheel arch guard there's two screws either side which hold the sides of the bar to the front of the guards.

-The headlights don't need to come out

-Don't forget to disconnect the fog lights/blinkers

    -It should come straight off.

The bar is easily cut with a jigsaw with a metal blade if the back of the bar needs to be cut forward to fit an FMIC in. I'm pulling mine off this weekend to check the my crash repairers handywork and try and line things up a bit better.

  5. Not long ago wheels or motor magazine had an article on Carlos Ghosn, he's a hell of a manager but everything comes at a price. Throughout the peugot/nissan range there could be as little as 16 platforms for the two manufacturers, so expect to see the Skyline/GTR/Z motor beeing shared around.

    Prank,

The rig's looking good, got it out last saturday, I'd post a pic but don't know how, so, you've got mail.

  6. Because some nissan genius decided to put the battery in the boot (probly for weight distribution?), the original equiptment battery was sealed with a ventilation tube running down the left hand side of the battery and through the floor. Have a look for a rubber grommet where the tube used to pass through.

  7. JiMbO,

The motor's still in good nick and with these wintery days I managed to wind it off the clock easily on a back road this arvo.

If I wasn't at the servo without tools, I would've pulled the strut bar out before changing it over. I'm not too keen on the idea of the battery not having a vent tube either. Electricals in a confined space with a lead acid battery (hydrogen) = Boom! 8O

  8. Guys (and Shell)

I got my car out of the crash shop yesterday with fresh paint and panels, when they took it off for a wheel alignment, a heap of blue smoke came out of the exhaust. Any ideas anyone?

My theory is when I had my stack the motor shut off straight away making the turbo cook letting oil past the seals? Read ->stuffed

The battery was dead as well, try getting one of those suckers out with the strut bar in place :?

  9. Guys, Ihad no idea there was and tention at SDU, pity really...

ONARUN, SVD's in limbo at the moment, there's still two upcoming cruises though, wakefield park on the 28th and then Bathurst on the 18th of next month.

Prank, Do you know of anyone that has any digital photos of my re-union with the rock? My car's sitting at the crash repairer so I have plenty of time to hone my cornering technique on GT2. :P
