Just finished putting the rb30 together and i'm having a few issues.. the car turns over but hesitates massivly to fire, the only way to get it to run is to give it a bit of throttle, and even then it's sketchy, it's either give it throttle and watch it rev up, or back off and she dies.. feels really like a boost leak issue, except it will actually rev when given throttle, although been over it many times and can't find one nor hear one when it actually does turn over. when it does turn over it is running massivly rich (black smoke), so i was thinking that perhaps one of the cam gears has slipped when i was tightening it up and is now running an extra tooth retarded or something, i guess this will be the next thing i'll check but i'm stumped for idea's.. it's obviously getting both spark and fuel as it turns over.. any advice would be great

Check that injector o-rings are in properly does it sound like there is a massive air leak??? Also what injectors are you running and what duty cycle did you set them too?

My rb25/30det has a 3" dump/front, decat and 2 & 3/4" cat back giving 270rwkw on 17psi, would like to try a 3.5" from turbo to rear and see if there is much difference

Id say that would be due to the auto and manual cross members being different however i dont know if this is correct. Can you get a hold of a cross member of a r32 running a manual trans?
We tried both cross members from auto and manual, they are the same and both dont line up??

Hi guys helping a mate out with a conversion, we are putting a 5 speed rb20det in his nasp auto r32, now the motor and gearbox went in fine but the gearbox cross member is about 1inch out on both sides, has anyone else experienced this problem?

All fixed altternator was dead!

I managed to put a voltmetre across the battery and its not charging so i suspect alternator, very strange how this happened all of a sudden.

Yesterday i noticed that the Hicas light was coming on when driving prior to this the battery light was coming on until i gave her a rev and drove her for a bit, then when i turned her off she wouldnt start i managed to get her jump started and just got her home with the car cutting in and out, this morning i went to start her and started fine and i drove her for a bit and she was still fine then the battery light and hicas light started again, is this the alternator??

yes we are using a high energy circuit sump it has one day trap doors that only let oil in but not out, i dont see how it could starve it of oil. Oil capacity in the sump is about 8 odd litres also, so there is a fair bit more in there then std. But it is possible.
Yes they were acl race series mains and conrod bearings. The mains were farked, but ok farked...the conrods were just non existent.
No joke i tried using acl piston rings 3 times different sets of rings had number 2 compression ring too big and it wouldnt fit in the bores, did you check all the clearances, was there any noise prior?

AM.... i was not sure where to drill for the oil line.
looking on my rb25det block which is sitting next to the rb30 would it be in the same place?
shanef.... what mods need to be done to use the rb25 head studs? are there any advantages?

Which oil line simon, to turbo or drain? So looks like you have a series 1 block then and dont have the oil or water lines for the turbo, its seriously worth getting a series 2 block, will save you a fair bit of time as there will be enough modifiying with the sump adaptor
