  1. Hi Guys,

new member here and my first post.

My GT-R 35 had it's first tow today.

Fairly certain steering lock is jammed/faulty, could not start it. I've read there has been a recall on GTRs for this problem. Wondering if anyone else in Oz has had this problem and if you know if Nissan will cover the repair under the recall. And there's no expiry on recalls?

    Thanks

Welcome, but learn to post in the correct section. This is the spotted topic.

Spotted a white '35 on South street WA just now (joe something or other was the licence plate). Made me happy and sad at the same time. Happy, because I love them (especially in white), sad because I'm too much of a lazy F*%@ to ever be able to buy one.

He put on a bit of a show for me at the 2 sets of lights we were stopped at side by side (I was in a crappy but reliable Corona) flooring it off the line when the lights changed :worship:

Got home and pulled into the driveway behind my busted ass R31 coupe I haven't driven in 9 months or more (Did I mention I was a lazy f*%@).

Made me want to pull my finger out and fix it, or work on the C110 coupe, but I'm sure by tomorrow morning the feeling would have passed.

  2. Hi,

I've been following an eBay auction on a manual R30 (link)

It's been sitting below reserve for days after two previous listings with no bids. Same car was listed by a different seller last time.

Now all of a sudden, the bid history shows three bids from the same bidder, who has taken the price from $350 to $500.

    e***f( 0 ) AU $500.00 26-Mar-10 13:17:30 AEDST

    e***f( 0 ) AU $450.00 26-Mar-10 13:17:18 AEDST

    e***f( 0 ) AU $400.00 26-Mar-10 13:16:51 AEDST

    w***e( 0 ) AU $350.00 24-Mar-10 21:13:44 AEDST

I'm not bidding so this is just academic. But am I right to assume this is dodgy?

It could also mean that the seller wanted at least $500 for it, so got a mate (w***e) to bid in small increments to up the bid to $500. It doesn't help that the seller can see (for example, not saying this happened here) that e***f put in an opening bid, then added another bid in the history. That's a green light for the seller to get some shill bidding going on.

The thing with ebay is, that you have to expect that the item will sit near its starting price right up till the last few hours before it ends.

If its is bid up alot before then, then the bidders are either stupid (new ebay bidders make this mistake) and must have it and bid early, or something dodgy is going on.

If you want to win something cheaply, you try not to bid until the last minutes, otherwise your just driving the price up in the days prior and end up paying more. And if your a seller, start the item off near what you want for it.

  3. I know that the Z extractors don't fit a K because they foul on the idler arm (Z uses R&P steering). I don't know whether the different design for the K extractor makes them unsuitable for the Z though.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. There's not much in a Z on that side of the bay for it to be a problem (Unless you have a LHD Z in which case the steering link is in the way).

Would be interested in throwing them in my Z engine bay to see if they fit. I have a zed with a seized engine and rusted out extractors I could test fit them in.

You heading up Perth way any time soon Ricky?

  4. For sure, those wraparound indicators and the small window in the rear pillar remind me of the Lincoln Continental (US car, big enough to have a tennis court in the boot). Still see a few 2 door Lincolns around in Melbourne.

In regards to the 280C, I thought the low-mileage engine might be of interest. I assume it's an L28.

    JH

Yep should be an L28. I pulled an engine from one of these once. Its still up at my old's place.

  5. It wasn't returned to anyone. Maybe you misread my post.

Vendor would be the insurance company, if it was insured.

If the bidding doesn't meet the insurance companies reserve then pickles will take the offer to the insurance company to see if they are willing to accept the amount, or negotiate with the highest bidder to try and get their reserve. If not it will be up for sale again next week I guess. Standard auction stuff. Same thing happens with people selling houses if bidding doesn't get over the reserve.

Insurance companies greedy? No comment :ermm:

They would be making a huge loss on this policy. What's a GTR cost $170,000? paid out to the owner, who only paid one year of premiums. If they accept $92,500 for the wreck, that's almost $80 grand they loose. Maybe the reserve is more about them trying to minimise their loss than what they think the car is actually worth.

  6. When i was about 16 my dream Z was in Street Machine, thing was mint and ran a V8....18 years later one is for sale and i am so tempted to buy it. But having owned a 65 Chev i would only ever buy a restored car....panel beaters make fixing up old cars far too risky as they are mega expensive for fixing issues you didnt spot at purchase time

Was it a red one that had a Chev V8. Was on the front cover with a yellow Vette.

If so your Dream Z is for sale. Same car that was in Street Machine all those years ago. The guy that owned and built it sold it to George some years back, and now George is selling it.

  7. Where the fu(k do people get these ideas?

    Magazines...

whenever this pops up i'm always saying it's just internet rumour b.s., like so many other things floating around this car.

Nope, not the internet, Australian motor magazines...... Guess which one....

Well I know where he is coming from, as I read quite a few times on forums etc that because of the plasma lining the GTR would need to have a service at 100,000km that would involve the engine coming out to recoat the cylinders.

Based on the facts in the Motor article, this appears grossly mis-informed.

Well, maybe Motor magazine should have checked the facts before printing this rumor in the first place in "Motor" magazine, May 2008 issue.

  8. Ghostrider asked me to link this for you guys to have a look at, he's got some issues with his pc..

    http://www.nettiauto.com/nissan/stagea/2363789

to be honest I have no idea what a STAGEA looks like, so I don't have a comment but Ghostrider said this

"Have a look at it, it says STAGEA? But 1987?? and looks like a hybrid Subaru Liberty come Nissan M30 Infinity come Nissan Pulsar come Toyota Cressida come whatever.

Maybe a Euro model only, but interesting all the same."

    Nigel

    It's a Nissan Sunny B12 series.
