  1. HOLY CRAP! Where are you? Any chance of reselling on 20ltr drums? :P

Ska/Beer Barron, your correct, Port Moresby Street Racer here :) belive me it has it's benifits.

toluene is readilly available in Aus in 200ltr drums, i got those drums as part or our Gun Wash Thinner Order from a major solvent manufacturer. wish gun Wash was a good Octane booster at 0.70c a liter it's definately affordable

Toluene is $1.70 per liter from the three sources i checked + $25 for the drum. the $1.70 includes a tarrif of 0.39c since July 1 2006, if not for the tarrif the price would be sensational.

i just hope it gets me above 96 or so, fingers crossed...................................

  2. I've got the PAR gearset in mine, with what i believe is a very practical street option, by way of having a straight cut 1st, 2nd & third to handle the punishment & a beefed up Helical 4th but still with Synchro Engagement, they make & supply their own upgraded 1-2 synchro hub, for 3-4 the stocker is oK.

That way you have the strength but still the smooth drivability. uses your stock 5th & reverse gear.

i think he said it will handle 1000hp

sounds awesome too!! (like driving through three gears in reverse), then pull 4th & back to quiet cruising

    cost was $5,600

  3. the paint on the cams depicts that they are stock GTR so i found out.

but also the sock base circle diameter is 32mm, so looks like they might be some sort of re-grind.

i'll set up a dial indicator on the bucket & measure the lift, i guess is easiest..

interesting what you find in imported cars, it's like a lucky dip some times ;)

  4. i searched & searched the forums on how to identify cam shaft lift, didn't find the proceedure as such but found the Tomei factory cam shaft specs. for RB26DETT is 8.58/8.28 IN/EX

then i searched Google on how to measure. rocker armed engines use lobe lift & rocker ration from what i can gather.................makes sense.

where OHC engines it appears the measurement from the backside of the lobe over the top of the lobe, minus the base circle = lift.

so if my cams in my RB26 are 41mm over the lobes & the base circle without the lobe is 31.2mm does it mean the lift is 9.8mm, or am i missing something here??

can anybody sched some light please?

  5. 25% mix of toluene (122) + 75% 91 is about 98 octane using blunt calculations.

Whatever the number is a retune to suit is in order if you go that way. The AFR's need tweaking along with the timing to get the most out of it.

Thanks rev, even 96 would be good in conjunction with the water/methanol injection. 91 sucks & really limits everything i do here!!

    if i can get 98 with 25% toluene i'm a happy man.

i've ordered 5 x 200ltr drums in our next solvent order, so will be here in a few weeks to try!

as for tuning, i'm still learning, have to get my head around the fuel maps on the Power FC, have a wide band O2 fitted, so keeping an eye on things.. no Dyno's here either, so i'm the tuner!

    thanks for the heads up!

  6. 1stly, Must be something drastically wrong with your triple plate if it can't hold 400awhp

As for the box, mine went out in style, street racing, quick change into 3rd................gotta hate that noise!!

like ferni, i have a twin plate solid centre...............fixed the problem by buying a PAR gearset 1st to 4th & loaded that up.

from what i've heard std gearbox is ok if you treat it nice.................."treating it nice" & "I own a GTR" don't think should be used in the same sentence

  7. Arkon,

i have the -10's fitted to my R32 GTR & got the HKS actuators as the -10's don't come with actuators.

i have plenty of bolt on mods but no cams or anything as yet. i got these turbo's because i have another engine & can put up with the Lag untill i put stage 2 in.

basically the -10 won't hit more than 0.5bar untill 5000 RPM, but when they come on, boy do they come on, 1.2, 1.3, whatever the're set to in an instant!!

I like em, big plans ahead!!

here's the mods at present with the -10's (laggy as hell)

  8. It's a bit of a very rough guesstimation, since the real calculation of RON is done on a knock engine.

My idea (probably wrong) is that the chemicals present do not adversly effect each others RON/MON by reaction. That way we can work out the rough average RON of the mixture.

I guess the bottom line is that the Toluene or Xylene mixture is definately better than the ocatne boosters commonly found on the auto store shelf.

hey Rev, great stats hope you help me with mine.

We only have 91 octane pump gas here, that's it, no other options. so i'm currently running water/methanol injection to overcome this, (well i have to use Metholated Spirits instead of Methanol because i can't get Methanol either). it works well. 91 octane at 1.2 bar with the water injection & around 30 on the Power FC Knockometer.

I'm looking at importing some 200ltr drums of Toluene from Australia to mix at 25% with the c rappy 91 octane we get here. Any idea what rating i would end up with?? I have asked the question of the fuel companies here but no-one seems to know. i'm really hoping i can get a min of 96?

PS: Also i was told by the manufacturers in Australia that as of 1st July in Toluene, Xylene, Methanol, Ethanol & Isopropyl Alcohol has a Tarrif on it because people are using these products for Fuel or Fuel additives & the Govt. reckon they are missing out on revenue!! they told me Toluene has a Tarriff of 0.38143c per liter.

hopefully i won't have to pay that for Export out of Australia, not sure still checking..................

  9. what about the RB20 MAF, isn't that the same size as the Z32? i Know the plugs on the RB20 MAF's are a straight plug in to the RB26 plug because i have a couple here that i was going to put on my RB26, still hope to unless there's some problem.

then as far as i know i just have to select the RB25 MAF on the Apexi Power FC??

    pic is RB20 MAF

  10. You can convert them to rwd in the 32s by pulling a fuse. R32s Im pretty sure are primarily RWD until you loose traction as well.

    Hmm, mines only an 11 sec GTR & when i jump off the clutch at 8,000 i'm smokin 4 x 4 :D

i reckon he's gotta be an 11,000 man so it should be smoking from every orifice!!!

awesome car, just f ing awesome!!

would really like to know the answer as to why the Mecca of 4WD weaponry is running 7's on two??

    whats the benifit?

two on street tires would be a saussage sizzle?

Drag slicks different of course, but just doesen't compute?

  11. Awesome!!!! gives me goose bumps!!!

I have to ask a question, well a couple actually.

Is this 7sec GTR rear wheel drive?? what's the go?? no smoke or spinning from the front wheels??

which prompts me to ask another question?? i've watched a few drift videos & see some GTR's drifting & only smoke from the rear??

    WTF? am i missing something??

  12. hey Beer Barron, you da man, "LAG" is what i should have been using. easy when you know how eh?

put the injectors in last night, running good even with std maps.

new injectors reading 68% at 1.2 bar under load where the stockers maxed out 100% at 5,500 in 2nd at same boost.

now all i need is schooling on how to change Ignition & Fuel Maps to smooth things out. i have a wide band O2 mounted full time, but want to knock the timing back somewhat to keep knock down as i'm forced to run on 91

know of any Video's explaining the proceedure & links? i did try Google, but failed me this time!

  13. The problem is i live in a regional center and there is nobody with a dyno locally.

I would have to trailer my car to the goldcoast or brisbane but I don't know who to trust.

Booster, know how you feel brother...................aint even a dyno in the COUNTRY where i live.

i think your biggest problem is going to be loading the FC with RB25 stuff, good luck, i wish i could help.

  14. With the new motor I'm going to run 440cc injectors and z32 afm although these could be fitted after it's initial run in.

Shouldn't I do something to the tune before I even turn the key?

Would it even run with the rb20 tune?

How long does it take to run it in on the dyno?

    It sounds expensive at $120+/hr

can't help you with the power fc info, (still trying to sort mine out!!)

but we used to run in 400HP+ 11 sec V8's in less than an hour on the dyno, they can put the engine under high load at moderate rpm's, half a dozen run ups like this is more effective than you driving up a hundred hills in the next month.

after the dyno session the engine is basically run in, from memory, you just need avoid 75% & above RPM range for say 500k's, but this way, the rings are definately bedded & you can 75% flog it straight outa the box.

Prolly a mineral oil (or semi synthetic) for start up & initial dyno work, then full syn after 500k's

Talk to your local dyno guru, he will surely give you the right routine! It's a darn site better than having to do so many rpm for the first 500, then so much for the next 500 & so on.....................................
