  1. hey man, alright looking build but if he wants to future proof it:

Mobo - go for a P5Q Pr, not the standard one($50 more with loads of extra features)

CPU - skip the Q8200 and for a E7200 with custom cooler(still save him about $150) then overclock it to round 3.8-4ghz, quad cores are pretty poo at the moment, since nothing utilizes them and nothing will for a few year, apart from a few select games and some Adobe Photoshop products(CS4 does i believe)

Video - With the money saved by going E7200, get a 4850(extra $100) but has a lot more kick, graphics cards are more important than CPUs in most respects these days, since CPUs have hit a limit(apart from the new iCore 7s and Phenom IIs displaying some nice overclocking)

RAM - Just go with 4GB of DDR2, there isn't much a performance difference between DDR3 at the moment, just make sure you run XP 64bit or Vista 64, otherwise he'll only ever use 3.5gb

Plus 2GB chips are so cheap, fill up just two slots and have two leftover

HDD - Skip the 1TB HDD, and buy 3x 500gb HDDs for the same price, then take the first and put the OS on it

take the second two and RAID them in a striped config(RAID 0?) so it equals 1TB, this will increase performance by about 20% on the HDDs

Also they are right about the Barracudas failing, we've had several fail at work, get Western Digital, they are also quieter :)

DVD-RW - Just get teh cheapest one you can find at the time, should only be about $32 with SATA, BenQ are all good with lightscribe too

Keyboard/Mouse - You could go the logitech Desktop 1500, it's one of the cheapest laser models, I've got one here, or you could fork out an extra $30 for a Logitech MX3200 which I also have, great layout and excellent keyboard

Monitor - your choice of 22” Samsung 2233BW LCD, another good brand is the AOC 22.1" if you get it, it uses the same LCD panel as the sharp, but I guess the bezel surround isn't as sexy

Foxconn TLA-889 Case - hmmm, quite a fugly case to be honest, and cheaply made, for about $20 more you should be able to pickup a named brand like a Thermaltake/Antec/Chenbro or for 40-50 more Silverstone/Lian Li etc

PSU - Skip the coolermaster, find a Silverstone 700w modular for the same price, highly efficient and very sexy like most silverstone stuff

Speakers - Altec Lansing FX5051 5.1 Speakers - you don't need these, they are $50more than similar Altec Lansing speakers(GT5051R) and Creative/Logitech speakers with less power, only because they can be run off a USB port, they are for a non dedicated 5.1 setup, since the board above has 8 channel surround, all other 5.1 setups will plus in + 7.1 setups

    P5Q vs P5Q Pro = +$40

    Q8600 vs E7200+Cooler = $-100

    4680 vs 4850 = $+132

    DDR3 4GB vs DDR2 4GB = $-88

    1TB vs 3x 500GB = $+64

    Desktop 1500 vs MX3200 or Wave = $+30

    Samsung vs AOC = $-67

    Foxconn vs Thermaltake = $20

    Coolermaster 650w vs Silverstone 700w = $+10

    Altec Lansing FX5051 vs Altec Lansing GT5051R = -40

= $1 difference in NZD prices of course

for a faster system overall, better suited to a casual gamer/the internet

  2. No just cars intended for the Japanese domestic market. In manuals you just cut the appropriate wire but for autos you need a device such as my GReddy Speed Limiter Cut Controller ($160 roughly) which will do the job. Jaycar don't appear to make one. You can get the speed limit removed with some major re-chips or of course with an aftermarket computer.

I think that only applies to maybe R33s or newer, I know the r32 autos still work with the wire cut, 52 or 53 is the one :D green and yellow?

you hit a wall at 180 ? phsyically ? or with the computers speedo cut ...

yeah, as soon as mine used to touch the dial, it used to pull back the fuel and start shuddering like a son of a b*tch

  3. Just have been observing... My headlights have a problem too, but not sure if it's the one as discussed here. My headlights look as if there are stains on it (like from water evaporating or something). Is it the same problem as the headlights losing clarity discussed in forums above and by people above?

Yep same issue, the water evaporating problem is the japanese acid rain, it also eats into glass on windows of jap cars too, it's a pain in the arse

  4. Oh yeah. One more tip, turn the car and the lights off as soon as you stop, and get out of the car and meet them half way. Makes it more even that way. AND DONT TELL THEM ANYTHING!! Otherwise your just making it easy for them. Oh yeah, and dont be a dickhead. They dont like that for some reason.

    Haha you guys are lucky,

In NZ if you even try getting out of the car they yell and you to get back in, either because they suspect you have a weapon or because they know you are doing something wrong

  5. Another flame war,

I own all 3 consoles, can say:

Wii is crappy graphics, aimed more at family types, not good, would skip it, plus the Wii Fit told me I'm overweight :) now i've lost 10kg, i'll go back and challenge it

Xbox360 I play the most because it has the best at the moment racing games, although once GT5 comes out, it should be better, as long as it has damage mode for once

You'll only notice blu-ray dvds on the PS3 if you have a 42"+ TV and you are sitting at least 6ft away, for me I'm sitting 4ft away from my 1080P 32" and don't notice any major difference from the upscaled dvds, maybe a bit of motion blurring is the only thing.

Graphics wise, both are so similar, the Xbox has the better graphics chip, but the PS3 has more cores on it's CPU, meaning that games can be written to add more textures on the PS3, it's just developers find it so hard to program for.

Streaming videos/DivX both play them off PCs, Xbox uses Windows Media Center or Tiversity, PS3 uses Tiversity, both run fine, no slow downs at all.

In terms of price, Xbox is getting really cheap, I picked mine up with 3 games for $399, PS3 is still $750(NZ prices) if it was a budget thing and you wanted to play games now and not wait till May-JUne for GT5 next year, get the 360 + Forza 2, then next year get the PS3 with GT5 bundle or go for Forza 3 which shoudl be out at the same time.

Forza isn't actually bad at all, infact i can say I enjoy it more than GT3-ASpec, GT4, GT5 Prologue, but it's not quite as good as GT1 or GT2

  6. just bear in mind when you use toothpaste it'll take ages ;)

I used it on some glass here too, brasso and autosol metal polish also works and comes pretty cheap from bunnings

If you have a rotary buffer, put it on low speed, foam pad with autosol and it'll take about 30 minutes each window, it won't remove large scratches or stone chips, but it'll get your windows looking amazingly clean

  7. You'll be fine

Most car dealers get a waterblaster, spray the bay with it, then once it dries spray it with silicone, plastic bag over the pod might be a good idea though

If you have an oil squirting air compressed gun, you can put degreaser and water into it and spray your bay, I did that to mine, no rust 4 years after

    THANKS

    WOW THAT SOUNDS AWESOME, CRAZY!!!!

Wonder if this guy yells at people when they visit him or ring him up too, he's probably the same guy that does the closing down rug sales, 50% OFF 50% OFF, CALL NOW

Does anyone know if Quiktrak will be bought out? because my mate also has this alarm

  9. hey man,

Sounds like you may have been duped with that purchase, sounds like the headlights are standard R32 Bug eyes with HID lights in them,

best thing to do is get some bulbs, H1 for the main beams and swap them out with some standard halogen ones, nothing you can do can make HIDs look good in a skyline,

Unless you retrofit some projectors or buy a 34 or up :)

  10. personally I wouldn't pay anything for one. but sadly there are some really stupid people out there so you may actually make some money on them. pretty poor way to make some cash though. about on par with ticket scalping...

    Yeah, what he said

P.plates are annoying, even Jeremy Clarkson hates them and he's the reincarnation of Jesus himself

But you'll find some guy with more money than sense, who wants to buy it, I'd estimate probably a few grand, say $5k maybe

  11. Hmm the worst pain I could think of was when I contracted herpes 4 months ago,

The pain from urinating wasn't that bad, but the blisters on the head of the penis made it super hyper-sensitive

I was basically a walking zombie for 2 whole weeks,

My colleagues were looking at me strangely in the office everytime I goto the toilet, printer or lunch.

That's not the worst part, turns out she was sleeping around and shit, what a way to find out ay.

hahahahahahaaa, hahahaha, that's so crazy, I'd have to agree,

    I've:

    - Broken my back in two places and been unable to move or breath for a few minutes after falling over, two vertibrae cracked, but gave me a good 8-12 weeks off school at the time :) apart from the pain

    - Had meningitis, ending up in an ambo to hospital, 41' Temp in an ice bath a few points of a degree off brain damage, whole body was in pain, but it shut down and i just woke up the next day

But the worst pain is so similar to the above, riding in togs through Niue in 30-35 heat, 90% humidity, rode 20kms, last 5kms i felt a pain just like the above, turns out my togs had been chaffing on the damn head of my dick too, took the togs off and just noticed cuts down the head, shaft and over the scrote/blood, had to walk with my legs half apart to stop anything from touching anywhere down that area for at least a week

  12. The two got tazered and shot when the buyers realized it was NOT a GTR as advertised :D I can think of so many other things better to do at 9:45PM on a Thursday night than go to a Bunnings Carpark.

    haha genius,

I'm not really looking forward to selling my two cars in a month or so now though, just have to make sure:

    - you are in a public area with lots of witnesses

    - ask the seller to come alone(had my last car checked out by 15 people at once, not good)

    - ask the seller for proof of funds + ID before the test drive

    - don't say your car is a GTR if it's really a GXE with GTR kit....you could get shot

  13. I think I might know where you crashed :) haha, I've had a near miss up there in the GTS4, the corners are sharp and take you by surprise at night, especially the ones where someones managed to wipe out the recommended speed sign earlier in the day :P

Yeah an R34 sedan would be nice as, you'd get the added safety, they look good and most of the parts will swap straight in :)

+ your mags would fit with the 5-studs off the R33

I think it'd be a cheaper option than the R33, you should get the 33 assessed anyway, but like the guys say below, it looks like it'll need a:

rear quarter chop, front quarter chop, possibly new passenger floorpan,

I had a similar crash in a GTS-t, except took out the front end, first day of owning the car, didnt' have any insurance, got the guy to write down a quote, but lost the quote and go overcharged, ended up paying $5k, it was $1200 to straighten the chassis, rest on parts, and even afterwards i didn't feel safe in it + crashed cars have way less of a resale value, so i lost out quite a bit

  14. ouch, yeah that is quite a lot

    where are you from?

sets of lights in NZ usually go for round 200-300 for the pair on Trademe here

there's a couple of ebay australia if you are a member:

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nissan-R33-GTS-GTST...1QQcmdZViewItem $102 current bid

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Nissan-R33-GTS-GTST...1QQcmdZViewItem $0.99c current bid

I'd expect both to go for round $150 each, did you have an accident and crack yours, or are you looking at upgrading the series 1?

  15. yeah just leave it to airdry, it'll dry in about 15 minutes, go soft in about 24 hours ready for a colour sand

Just remember to wear a mask and do it in your garage, if your garage is connected to your house, block up any gaps in the doors, because it sticks to everything and the smell lingers for a few days at least
