I see alot of pictures of RB26 intake manifolds with black coating either chipping or wearing off. Even on the timing belt covers.
Is there a reason why this happens? Heat maybe?
Any recommendations to fix that? perhaps strip, clean, and repaint it.. or just strip it all off and polish it up?
I'm a perfectionist when it comes to a clean looking engine, =P so I want to figure out what I can do with it before that starts happening. The 26 will be sitting in my garage for a while so I'm going to basically dissasemble all bolt on bits and clean them up...

Is there any way to tell what year an engine is? Specifically an RB26.
I searched forever on this but I can't find any good info.
Thanks if anyone knows. =/

I have a 96 stagea RB25DET engine. As some of you guys know, they are AWD.
I'm unsure about one major thing: Mounting it into an S13.
I'm currently looking at two mount kits for this swap. One is made for an RB25DET swap into an S13, and the other is for the RB26DETT into the S13.
I'm unsure of which kit to go with. Since this engine was originally AWD, should I go with the RB26DETT mount kit??
I don't even know what would work. If someone could tell me what is so different between mounting positions on the RB26/RB25 in a SKYLINE that might help me figure this out.
BTW- the engine is going to be converted to RWD of course. The box is on the way to me. The AWD oil pan (like the GTR) will be swapped for a RWD R33 RB25 pan.
Please help a distant american out.

Well the engine is sitting in my garage.. I haven't even started looking at it yet. I've been very busy this summer..
But in the next two months I will be doing this and I'll be posting it up with GOOD pictures and full text.
This whole project is coming together really slowly right now. I need to sell my civic before I get started really. The only thing I've done is bought an RB25det2 engine harness for it.. then the sump is next.
I will post up a picture of it with the sump removed though in the next two weeks so people can see it.

well I hope you're right. I'm gonna replace the synchros n shit in my rb25det box with them then.. I hope to god it works.
thanks

Does anyone know if the gears AND synchros in the z32 TT gearbox are interchangeable with the RB25DET gearbox?
PLEASE PLEASE let me know.
i will bump this topic till the day I die.. I need to figure this out.

I've seen twin inlets on more than one GTSt.. are they really that beneficial???
It looks good though
-
Not a bad idea.. it would need to be tuned for it somehow though
I've heard toluene really isn't the best for your engine without some small lubricational additive. I shall research..

I think I'm going to try the R33 RB25DET RWD sump. I've heard of people using them without much modification on RB26DETT's.. but I guess I'll figure it out myself sooner or later.
I'm going to email those guys you mention to see what a custom sump system would run me too.
Thanks a bunch

Zen, you're speaking about the RB30 sump, how does that compare to the R33 RB25DET sump? I really don't know anything about this RB30 creature nor it's sump.
Sydneykid, do you make specialized sumps or something? Or do you know any companies that do? Those are some nice looking ones and I'd be interested in getting one.
hmm.

If I had some solid information on EXACTLY what to do.. I would do it.
Wings and gates? Not sure what that is. Can you explain it?
Also, someone said in another one of my threads that the stagea sump is "wider" than skyline RB25DET's. This is a 96 Stagea RB25DET block..
-
Thanks
Is that something you can weld with? lol
-
What exactly is the GTR's oil sump made from? What metal?
Should be an easy question.
I'm going to look into having my 4wd sump made into a rwd sump rather than switching to an RB25 sump..
-
Bolt it on and torque it down.
Resurface the flywheel while it's out...
-
That's never good...
If you were to scratch over with your fingernail, would it catch on them?
-
Hmm, well I'll find out for sure or not sooner or later.
-
Yah I'm thinking of taking the pan and doing a little cutting and welding.
Thanks for the info

I'm thinking it's this way on all R33 GTS turbo engines.. because they are the same block. The pistons must be different though because of it's rated compression.
not too worried because my engine has obviously always been turbo.. I can just tell by inspecting it.
-
I have an RB25DET engine.. but the code on the block only says "RB25"
Is this the same on all RB25's? Is there no "DET" ?
Thanks

nevermind I found it on your site.

YAH I'll TAKE IT!!! Do you have an email addy?

Anyone please!?
Is this an R32 or R33 GTR ecu? (pic)

I've searched and searched.
This ecu says 'R32' on it, yet it suuposedly came from an R33 clip. So, the writing on the ECU *could* be a mistake. I just need someone to confirm what it is.
Someone PLEASE help fast.
