  1. Hi guys, Thanks Kinks, got your PM. Very good idea about the amp rack. I had considered this but I had already installed my amp in the normal spot next to the battery. this is however very limited for space. I would be happy to look into making an mdf /fibreglass amp rack for the left side to suit the style of the right. I think this would look very nice and still allow plenty of space in the boot. Give me an idea of who's keen on this and if there's enough I'll make them. I would make them carpeted in the same carpet to match. Give me some ideas if you have any. Cheers Ben
  2. Hi guys, just bumping. Still got Boxes ready to post or pickup. Cheers Ben
  3. I did investigate making the box for the left hand side also. The main problem is the lack of space behind the boot trim. There is a metal panel that houses the jack and the areal. This would mean that the box would either be too shallow to house a normal 12" sub or would have to protrude into the boot space making it look uneven with the right hand side. I am still investigating making one. One Idea I had was to use a slimline subwoofer like the pioneer ones that came out not so long ago. I think Response also make a slimline sub. This would be the only other way to do it and still have the front of the sub box even with the left side of the boot opening to match the look of the right side. Either way if I do make a left hand side one it will be a while off. I have invested quite a bit of time and money in just doing the right hand side, so for now I'll keep producing these, but I will investigate further options for the left side. Cheers Ben
  4. Hi All, Got 5 boxes carpeted and ready to go. I am away from monday but my mate Adrian, Adriano on this forum, will have the boxes for pickup or posting. Please PM him for payment details and postage or pickup details. Cheers Ben
  5. Hi All sorry for the extended delay. Had to rethink the mold as the fibreglass one just wasn't working. That is sorted now and I've got a couple of boxes ready to go fully carpeted with speaker conectors and a hole for a 12" sub. All that is needed is to connect and screw in your sub and slide the box into the recess in your boot, also trimming of your boot lining will be required. As people will see when they get them, they are a very snug fit and I have had mine in my boot for a few months now and it hasn't budged. If you do feel you need to better secure them I would suggest a couple of bolts through the bottom with rubber grommets to keep the seal. Anyhow the price is $250 plus postage. If you live in sydney you're more than welcome to pickup and pay cash on pickup, or otherwise a electronic funds transfer is fine. As far as postage goes I haven't sent one yet so not sure how much it would be, but it's not the weight but the size that will determine this. I'll post up a rough price to different cities when I send the first one. Can't imagine it would be too much though.
  6. Hi guys, just on the water cooled exhaust on boats, I believe the primary reason for this is to run cooling around the exhaust initially to cool the gasses before exiting the boat at the rear through a fibreglass transom. Having fibreglass hulls the heat from exhaust piping has been known to melt holes through the transom. I work in the Navy and the RHIBs we have run a jacket water cooling system much like the coolant system on cars with a glycol based coolant/corrosion inhibitor. This jacket water is cooled in a heat exchanger by salt water and the salt water then shrouds the exhast system out through the transom exhast outlets. Adriano is correct in his statement about the muffling effect of the water shroud in the exhaust system although a lot of boats have underwater exhast outlets too, which muffles them just fine.
  7. Hi guys, Once again away with work and getting very little time to make the boxes. I have pm'd the administrator again but haven't yet received a reply about selling them. Little by little, I'm getting them done though so please be patient. I will be pming those who have been waiting the longest as I make them. I have about 8 weeks in sydney over the next 3 months so will try my best to get boxes made for everyone who wants them. Cheers Ben
  8. Hi guys, Just adding some pics of carpeted box installed in car.
  9. Hi all, Back for the weekend but away again on monday for a week. After that I'm back for a couple of months so should be able to knock a few boxes out. If there is enough interest in the left hand side box I will consider making a mold for that side too. the only problem is that there's a bracket there for the jack and the areal is there too. Shouldn't be too much of an issue though. I'll start looking into it. Still waiting on a reply from SAU about selling them on here. Will shoot them another pm and see what's happening. Cheers Ben
  10. Hi all, Was back for the weekend and was able to get the first shell made. Slight change of plans with the construction, the original box got stuck in the mold so I had to cut the bottom of it out to get the box out. This means that the bottom and the front will both now be 16mm mdf reinforced with fibreglass. I also managed to carpet the original box and it is now installed in my car. It sounds great. Nice deep bass and clean sound. Fits like a glove and looks like it's meant to be there. Took some more crappy pics on my phone and will post them up as soon as I get back, yes sorry to say it but I'm off again. Should be about five weeks and I'm sure you guys are sick of waiting but I will get straight back into it on my return. Cheers Ben
  11. Hi All, managed to get the mold finished this morning. Once again back for a very limited time in Sydney. Just waiting on the ok from SAU to sell these using the forum and a small donation from each box sold will be given back to SAU. As soon as they give me the go ahead I will give a price. Just to give you an idea the price will be well under that of the commercially available equivalent. Cheers Ben
  12. Hi All, yes as Adrian has said it is a 12" in the pics. Thanks mate. Still working on a price, won't decide until I see how long the reproductions take to make and carpeting costs etc. The box could be sprayed but as stated it will have a black gelcoat which should improve the look and I will investigate carpeting it when I get back. This may be the last post from me for a while. Catch up with you all when I get back.
  13. Pics are up, still need to sand and polish the original so the mold will be nice and smooth. but this gives a good idea of what to expect. the reproductions will have a black gelcoat shell and will figure out the carpeting.
  14. Hi All, we are temporarily back in Sydney, managed to get the front on and measured the volume. It's about 32 litres. Not sure how long we're around for until we go back out so i'll just keep working on it until we go. Also front is not as big as I originally thought. 12 inch fit's niceley but 15 inch would be a little big. Only way I thought of putting a 15 in would be to extend the mdf front out further into the boot with a spacer. Then again the idea of this is to save boot space, so 12 inch it is for me. Is starting to look really good. will post some pics up if I get a chance to before I go. I bought some black gelcoat for the reproduction boxes so will look even better. Cheers Ben
  15. Hi All, Sorry to say the project is on hold for the time being, received a phonecall from work(NAVY) and are heading north on deployment, read between the lines. This means I will not be home for a period of time that I'm not sure of and will attempt to give updates of my return date if possible. Sorry to all who are waiting for these, but these things happen. I will be picking up where I left off when I get back. Cheers Ben
  16. Shell is done, just need to attach mdf front. Will take pics of completed box in car but will not be carpeted as I still need to make the mold. Just so everyone knows and doesn't get antsy, my work keeps me away for extended periods of time and over the next two months I will be home for about 6 days, all of which I will be putting into reproducing these boxes. If I have enough rubber left to make a second mold, this will speed up the process a bit but please be patient. Cheers Ben
  17. Hi All, The first fibreglass shell I made was going to be too difficult to make a mold of, so I've started again. This time I put a lot more effort into the taping of the inside of the boot. It wouldn't have bothered me but for making a mold I needed smoother, straighter lines, so this time I used more cardboard and spent about 5 hours getting it right. The first gelcoat is going on tonight, so in a few days I should have the original made. Making the fibreglass mold will take a few more days but when that's done I should be able to get a couple done each week. The MDF front is 16mm and I am fitting a 12 inch sub in mine. The front of the box could fit a larger sub, and there is plenty of depth. My plan was to pre-cut a 10 inch hole, that way people can choose what size sub they want to put in and cut the front to suit. This will also enable me to fibreglass the front on from the inside as well as from outside. The wire connectors will be hidden in the top of the side facing the front of the car. This way wiring can be neatly concealed behind the boot trim and run to your amp. I have my amp next to the battery. I have made space between the shell and the panels of the car and will look at either carpeting the front or the whole thing later on, for the boxes made from the mold, I plan to add pigment to the gelcoat so it will look nice carpeted or not. I will measure the volume of the box when it's done but at this stage it looks like there will be plenty. Any suggestions or questions, just let me know. I will endeavour to get some pics up as soon as possible.
  18. Hi Uras, I don't know a lot about suspension geometry so your input is greatly valued. Is there a big difference between the r32 and r33 subframe and arms? I understand from other posts, that to use the GTR diff and Shafts I would also need to use the gtr hubs as they have a different number of splines. Is this going to mean any modification to the hubs or will all the r33 stuff bolt up to the gtr hubs?
  19. Hi All, I have just got back home so will finish off the box and take some pictures. As far as moving the battery, you may aswell leave it where it is, mount your amp next to it and have your sub on the side of the boot. Will get some pics up as soon as I can and I'll work out a price based on cost of materials and time to make. Please be patient as I still will have to make a mold yet.
  20. Hi all, I'm sure this has been done before, I have a r32 gtr rear end with diff, half shafts, brakes, and subframe. I bought it for another car which is now gone and want to put it into my r33 GTS-T. Does anyone know any major differences as I would like to swap the whole lot if possible, thanks in advance.
  21. Hi all, I am making a fibreglass sub box to fit in the unused space behind the right hand side boot trim. It is a fibreglass shell with a mdf front. If there is enough interest, I will look at making a mould of it and producing them to order. Let me know if you guys are interested and I will post some pics when I get home next week. Pics finally, sorry for poor quality pics as they were taken on my mobile. keep in mind front will be carpeted and shell will have black gel coat. [ ttachment=144164:Image052.jpg]
