"wouldn't do it"... as in i should not change the turbo over??? because at the moment I am leaning a bit towards changing it?

Hey guys, I recently bought and got installed an apparently "good condition" second hand hypergear tr43 turbo... which when I bought it had a chip on the corner of one of the fins probably about half the size of this zero: -0- When I asked the mechanic if this was ok he said it was fine.... I was skeptical... how can something that has to spin at such a speed and maintain a constant high output while attempting to stay in the exact same spot be ok when it doesn't have perfect balance? none the less I went through with it..... I am meant to have a tune in a week by dr. drift.. who I hope will fix the slow spooling issue... because I am only getting full boost by about 4,800-5,000 rpm... an issue I am not sure if being caused by the chip.... I also am hearing a slight whistling sound when I drive... but that could be my dump pipe and the back of the turbo not being sealed 100%? I saw hypergear (Tao) who said he doesn't think it is a smart idea to run the turbo if it is off balance at all because at high rpm it will wiggle a little and then start destroying seals etc etc... I have spoken to the mechanics again.. who said they would give me the money back for the turbo... but I will have to be charged labour if they take it off again.. I am thinking i may just do it myself and replace it with a brand new tr43 myself...(because it will fit identical so no customizations that I will have to worry about) I need some more opinions desperately! DO YOU THINK THE TURBO SHOULD BE REPLACED? OR WILL IT BE OK AND RUNNING CORRECTLY? tell me you honest opinions because right now I am so confused what to do... Much appreciated, Adam

What Hp Rating Is The Stock Gtst R33 Turbo
WYTSKY replied to suburban drifter's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
hey bud, I just did this exact upgrade... s1 r33 turbo .... to hypergear tr43.....not highflow so far I have mixed feelings about this.... the sort of bad..... I havent had it tuned yet..(i have a power fc that was never really tuned, just knew it would come in handy when I did start big mods)...and the r33 turbo was sooo responsive... this only comes on hard at bout 4,500.... or so.. but I have been told a good tune by dr. drift (on the 8th of April) will make all the difference in response.. so I am hoping so... but judging by the dyno sheet on their website it still looks like quite a responsive turbo. my standard injectors are maxing out at a complete 100% when it comes on boost... so I will need new injectors, fuel pump, fuel regulator the good... really strong on boost... when I first got the car back and went.... crap i have wasted my money.. there is no boost... I hit 5 grand and screamed for my life while smiling my ass off... it is a big jump in power from standard 33 turbo I considered how far I was going to go with this engine before dropping a gtr engine into my gts4... and I couldn't justify a 1,500..2,500 turbo to be used for another 2 years and then the hole engine sold/used for parts/put in another car. I would say....this turbo (with the correct mods)would pretty much take you all the way up to forging your engine.. also...I spent 300-400 on turbo install? the guys I go to are really cheap and really good with skylines... anyone correct me if I am wrong with any of my assumptions...but as long as this is more responsive after a tune I would say it is a bloody good bang for your buck turbo! hey mate, I have a set of 33 non turbo rims... im in melb.. I think they should fit... you could always come have a try... all come with tyres.. two are still pretty good.. the other two are just a tiny bit under rwc standards. give me a pm. Cheers, Adam

hey gotrice, I have found with my cai and heatsheild that there is a good amount of cold air going into the engine, and I am sure that gts432 could back that up with his setup... i spoze you could say with a custom made cai.... the air isn't forced into the heatsheild as such, more so guided, so that the pod then has cool air to suck in that is around it in the heatsheild.... I don't believe "ramming" air into the intake would make any considerable difference anyway.. the intake can only take so much... if you want to look at a full cai setup however, start to finish... check the tut i made in the main tut page... Regards, Adam
-
hmmm... well... interesting... it considerably more complex then gts432's or my own, yet doing the same job... which begs the question.. why ? would the end result be capable of taking a cai aswell? because I found the best thing for the heatsheild setup is to be combined with a CAI to actually notice a difference and as long as its strong, looks good to the owner and performs correctly.. no harm done! Rb26 & Skyline Number Plates
WYTSKY replied to RB26GTST's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
fantastic plates mate! wish they could be used here in vic! -
I do appreciate the constructive criticism... the truth is that its not just me getting a jigsaw and cutting the heatsheild and giving it you ... its me and my mate, getting your car, making up a proper template to suit your car, getting all the materials and then all the rest like cutting to the template and making the holes, putting the edging on... I thougt that the price probably was a lil high... if you guys just wanted a simple standard template I could understand... and it would be cheaper.. but if you want it to suit your car it would be more costly... otherwise it is almost not worth our while for the time we spend making sure it fits well! Thanks for the kinds words though also.. don't forget.. if you guys want a go at doing this setup yourself... check out the tutorial section.. I have made two massive threads on how to make this exact setup Regards, Adam P.s.... 250 for a 33 turbo? pssh... will it run for more then 5 minutes without chunks coming out the back of your car ?

lolz... pretty much wot I wanted... but with a lil bit of depth..so bout 8.5-9 ish wide.... look around the nissansilvia forums... that honestly is ur best bet!

One that I have never seen anyone else mention is a momo-course exhaust.... was a beautiful sound when my car was non turbo .. now its bloody quiet unless you put your foot down.. then she still gives a good roar;)... i think its a 3-3.5inch system and a 5inch tip...which looks pretty big ....heres some pics... this one is from when I was doing my rear garnish... note all the screws and bolts sitting in the exhaust I have some better pictures if your interested... hey dude, I told you, I got the gtr front arms that support the front drive shaft and have 5 studs... the other alternative is to get gtst stuff and change everything right down to the front hubs on urs.. but I thought that was a little more of a pain in the ass.. and ur right about finding nice wheels in four stud... I wanted something roughly about 18*8.5-9...cuz gts4's have more room to fit wider wheels.. similar to gtrs I have been told... and I went to bob jane and they checked out my car and they told me i could fit about 9's in there... ...lots of room to fill! now try finding four stud wheels that size!... without selling your soul.

Making A Professional Heatsheild/pod Cover/air Box At Cost!
WYTSKY replied to WYTSKY's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
thanks bud, hard to keep original when everyone else has done it before you -
yes i know... they are a pain in the ass cuz they all have little differences.. mine is a gts4... so i had to deal with a front drive shaft when converting mine to 5 stud! .. .. in terms of how easy it is to get blank wheels... I don't know.. i did look when I did want the cheaper route... but couldnt find nething nice looking.... and $1000 AUS is not that bad for 5 stud and bigger brakes... (thats roughly wot i cost me)

Are Nissan Shift Knobs Universal?
WYTSKY replied to MoogLe's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I cant remember exactly.. but I think the thread on the actual gear stick you put the knob on is 10mm and is 1 or 1.5 mm thick... That should give you a good idea if it will fit or not -
Great! thanks mate... all I needed to hear.
-
sorry bud, I don't think you may have read the topic right.. I already have r33 gtst wheels on the car.. I want to know if r34 gtt wheels will fit
-
well thats promising... with or without spacers is the question tho....
-
hey guys, a simple question --- will r34 gtt wheels fit on my r33 gts4 with front r33 gtr arms etc... and r33 gtst brakes... the brakes have nothing done to them, just standard r33 turbo ones and they are attached to r33 gtr arms because I had a 5 stud conversion and needed 4wd support.. I currently have standard r33 turbo wheels on with no problems. Thanks, Adam P.S I don't want to use spacers...

Make Your Own Neat Looking Cold Air Intake/cai!
WYTSKY replied to WYTSKY's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
Thanks for the kind words bud -
I thought it was just handy and easier to deal with finding rims etc... plus the turbo brakes look alot meaner.. the other thing is urs is a non turbo.. if you want to turbo it,like it did,in the future you will want bigger brakes.. bit scary having over 200kw atw on non turbo brakes

Making A Professional Heatsheild/pod Cover/air Box At Cost!
WYTSKY replied to WYTSKY's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
1 Other thing... in regards to the question I keep getting asked of why is there a gap left and the rear part of the heatsheild... I left that with a gap because I was originally going to have a spare hole there at the top to let air flow through... why you ask? because heat rises... and I wanted to let any left over air/ hot air.. to hopefully flow through to the rear and escape while my pod continues to get fresh cold air... Making A Professional Heatsheild/pod Cover/air Box At Cost!
WYTSKY replied to WYTSKY's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
JBonDSS, I get heaps of air because I also have a CAI I made... you can check out that tutorial too Obvesouly there will always be air going to ur pod, if it was indeed air tight, your car qould seize up, so no matter how much you think your headlights seal off air, they never could completly.... In terms of air, you are assuming I have a spare Intercooler hole in there under the heatsheild? My car came as a non turbo....so I had no holes to begin with....I turboed it so We had to make one hole for the FMIC ... then for my CAI.. I had to make another 1... it is so easy...and I know about the legalities of this... but you cannot see inside the tinted perspex... and know one knows... Power wise I didn't really notice much difference with the heatsheild by itself... with the heatsheild AND a CAI... i have noticed a fair bit more torque at top end... which is fun you can tell it works well because you can get out of the car, whip open your bonnet and feel the heatsheild on the inner side and its cool.... while the rest of ur engine is at 80+ Adam
