    the car seems to be running pretty much back to normal now i think it was just a case of paranoia. im planning on getting a tune after a save up for my new turbo then i will get everything done.

    the car didnt drop any oil and there are no leaks anywhere so i think it is just what femno said abotu the hotter oil.

    i jus went on a run up dandy for the first time and all was fine the car felt real good apart from alot of popping due to the car running MEGA rich.

    on the way home i decided to gun it, apparently my mates saw that i blew a flame but it wasnt like a normal orange flame. they described it as a blue flame that just stayed in the exhaust and after it happened apparenlty ash or some shit started flying out. my car never blows flames it just pops and black smoke comes out due to the richness. my cat is shot to shit and might as well be gutted so im wondering if when it dumped ash out if it was just a whole lot of carbon build up or maybe something more serious?

    also when we stopped at maccas i realised my stock oil pressure gauge was reading really low and nearly resting on the bottom and when i reved it it would go up a smidgen but never to anything higher than 2. ive read on here that factory gauges are notorious for oil pressure so im just hoping to settle my nerves by seeking you guy's advice. the car feels fine and almost the same as b4 when the pressure was normal. now im just paranoid as a i dont want to throw one out of number 6..

    oh btw, the car is an r32 gts t rb20det, with full exhaust, panel filter. and otherwise might as well be stock. however the rev limiter and speed limiter is no longer on because thats the way i got the car when it was imported..

  4. i have a feeling its just a vac hose thats come off or cracked.

    if u r standing infront of the engine bay it should be on the top left, there is like a box attached to the back of the engine bay and a hose running it off it. check it for leaks.

    that should be the problem, it happened to me too.

    while driving on the freeway in 5th i was half booting it and all of a sudden.. no power, nothing the car just cut for a split second then kept going feeling abit sluggish (could be paranoia) but didnt feel right. stopped at the lights later and then the car stalled. i started it back up and it was all fine. drove it home and it happened again like the engine was compeltely non responsive howevr this time it died. i pulled over and then started it again and it worked fine.

    This all happened again today so i dropped it into the mechanics just to be safe and he says its my afm, and it will cost 400+ to recondition. could this problem be anything else like coils or something? and if it is afm would the tutorials i found on soldering etc be relevant?

  6. man come on... get a new battery...

    if your jumping it, then your obviously using the other batteries power, not yours... your battery is f**ked, the cells in it are dead, they can no longer hold a decent charge...

    that or the alternator isnt charging it... try a new battery first cause its cheaper...

    if theres a loose wire on the laternator somewhere, and your battery is f**ked, as a malfunction alternator will do, then that would explain what just happened... you can run your car on next to nothing if the alternator is running... so if it came back while you were driving, it would have supplied power to everything... i would get it checked out by a friend in the know... it may just be a shit earth wire, where a shop you dont know will charge you $180 bucks or some shit to replace... when a mate will do it for a beer :D

    Just took a look at the car properly today and came to the conclusion that it was the battery like you said. Since its a RACV garunteed batt i call down a racv person and he tells me its actually the alternator which isnt charging whatsoever.

    Looks like a few hundred out of the pocket to fix this...

  7. ive just limped it home from my friends place where it was, i had to pull over twice and jump it on both occasions cause it just wasnt holding rpm. but then all of a sudden on the home straight it seems everything seems fine eg power steering comes back and on all my electrics come on fine so its sorta fixed itself. however im afraid its just a matter of time b4 it happens again so i need to find out what it is. could it have anything to do with earthing wires or fuses or any of that? i have no clue

  8. just a crazy shot in the dark but... get a new battery...

    yea, my batt is only 1 yr old.. i thought of that too but why would a dead battery make my engine konk out even after it has been jumped and started running for awhile. like i can get it started no worries with a jumper but then driving for a little while it will die. ive found taht when i use anything related to electrics the rpm drops off and dies. for example pressing the break will cause my engine to die, indicators will cause my rpm to drop off etc. i have no idea with this

  9. the other day while driving my car the electrics started dimming including my dash lights etc, head unit turning on and off, power steering gone. finally got to friends house and the car just died. left it for a few hours then it started up again but only to have those doddgy electrical problems again and then when i came to a stop the engine just splutters out and dies (if i dont keep foot on accelerator it will die, but even then i couldnt keep it on for long when i had tried pumping the gas). had to jump the car to get it back to friend house, it starts up fine but will only keep running for a little once the leads are removed, then will konk out again. im totally stumpd on this one help would be much appreciated!!
