  1. hey guys with the xmas break being on ive decided to retrofit some projectors into my R33. couple of questions: 1. what projectors would best suit R33 headlights? ive read that lexus ones are good but what are the best for a better fit into the headlight casing? (s2 r33 if that makes a difference) 2. do hid kits come with just the normal beam lights? (as in do i need another kit for hi beam? i really need a general explanation on what hid's are and how they beter) 3. has anyone done this before? (ive read post's on people thinking about doing it and ive seen a youtube video on someone doing it but has anyone on here actually done it ?) cheers
  2. what does the copper grease do? stops vibrations or somthing? i seem to get an abnormal amount of brake dust, as in a huge amount over the period of one week. ah ok, cheers mate. i will be taking my car to a mates house on the weekend to have a look, i will let ya know if i do or dont have them
  3. hmm ok my pads are only 10% worn, so they have 90% meat left on them. i will prob never use my car for track day so what pads and rotors should i invest in for decent street use + no noise? its weird, if i brake hard i get this faint squeel, but if i brake lightly its multiplied by 1000, it sounds like metal sheering. any idea'S? when you buy pads do the anti squeal plates come with them?
  4. this is what they said to me, and what has been written on my brake assesment sheet. so i dont really know, i have a lip at the top of my rotor and i always thought it was just that, and apparentally rotors come down in judgement by width?? can the anti squeel pads be seen with the rims and tyres left on? where is it located?
  5. hey sau'ers i got my brakes checked out today by ABS, coz they do a free brake check and my brakes squeel like anything, anywho, the guy told me that i have really shit pads on my car and i need to replace my rotors. my pads have only been warn down 10% and my rotors are almost on the bare minimum. he gave me a quote, and it came to $1300!!!!!! WTF, someone please tell me if this is the price im looking at. i also would like some advice on which pads and rotors i should get to get rid of this squeel i get, its shocking, worst ive ever heard on a car. i dont really wanna replace my pads as there only 90% warn, but this squeel is driving me crazy!! any advice would be greatly appreciated!!
  6. mate had this happen to his 33. one spark plug was fouled up so was only running on 5 cylinders. and consider the engine in r33 ad r34 are 95% identical, id say check that out
  7. that is true, but neither does the ones from the GTR cluster
  8. p.s dont really want a boost guage, as wanna keep the stock on in the dash for the moment
  9. hey guys i dunno where to put this coz i couldnt find a category for it, anywho, im thinking about getting triple centre gauges from a gtr for my gtst. (have an empty spot under my cd player) was wondering if anyone knew what size the guages are? as im hoping to replace 2 of the 3 gauges. i was thinking along the lines of battery, oil temp and ?? i dont know about the third one yet. any help would be greatly appreciated
  10. hey guys i need a good quality mechanic who knows skylines well around mt ommaney/indoorpilly/darra area. Or within a 10km distance as my car is in need of a tune up and proper service cheers
  11. thats cool, has it done it since the brass one has been in? you got after cam gears? they are known to make a whine
  12. hey guys anyways, hasd my skyline bout a month now, and loving it. only thing is the odometer says 110,000kms, now i know it hard to tell how accurate some are but i think mines pretty bang on and the whole car itself looks as though its only done this amount of kms. anywho, i know the guy before my had the timing belt/all belts change and replace at about 98,000kms or so, but i was just wondering if there is anything i need to worry about, like doing a rebuild somtime soon? maybe for just the bottom end? also, what sorta price range am i looking at? cheers
  13. hey mate, I can see your fairly new to SAU, so welcome and enjoy your stay. It could be one of many things, i would check: 1: Oil viscosity, if its too thin then chances are you engine is burning oil as well as petrol, here's a tip to remember though: Blue smoke = Oil, White smoke = Water, Black smoke = Petrol. So is there a light tinge to the smoke, or is just black black? 2: AFM (Air Flow Meter), on most skylines the AFM goes kaput after 30 - 40,000kms or so, so maybe change your over. If your AFM is broke, or faulty, your cars ECU guess's how much petrol to put in. Too much petrol = smoke. 3: Turbo (this is the worst one), just check to make sure your turbo isn't blown, a blown turbo can throw shit through the engine, and a worn out turbo will produce smoke out through your exhaust. If its the stock turbo and stock boost, you should be fine, as long as your car hasnt done between APPROXIMATELY 150 - 180,000kms. Thats all i can think of at the moment, if i think of anything else i'll get back to ya. Buckets out.
  14. cheers sneakey pete! I know your not trying to be rude, but look at it this way... Petrol prices are going up, and nothing is really gonna stop it, we are running out of curde oil and thats how its gonna be, so for the time being why not squeeze your pennies a bit more. And when i mention on saving fuel, i didnt mean drive like miss daisy, i mean you can do that, hell i even do it, coz it works on fuel, im a uni student, so im finding any way i can to get the most bang for my buck. And if your read my topic properly, it says winding out the gears, you can still have fun in everyday driving just dont fang it all the time. Ive spent two years saving for a liner, on a sh*t all amouny of money per week, im not gonna go and cut myself short by hammering the car around everywhere and then having a liner and not being able to use it. I see it as: You drive like a granny through the week = more fuel for a spirted weekend drive, or whatever floats your boat. And as i also said, some people may disagree with me on what i've said, i took the time to think about all these and write it all down for all those owner's who dont have such great petrol consumption. If you happy with the fuel consumption of your liner, then just dis-reguard my topic and keep on driving how you wanna drive. Im hopefully providing help, not causing arguments...
  15. well looks like this has gone way off topic. my thoughts are that if you drive a manual, it is all about when you want to change gears. apart from that we would all be driving auto.(i know, also feels like we're driving the car more etc) 5th gear should only really come in to play at 80+ km/h, do you see people doing 60 in 6th gear or some GTR's? Ive never. I know that there is only a small difference between in revs in 5th and 4th, but that tiny amount might be either in the torque range and not. As far as fuel consumption goes, alot of people do have it set in their minds that lower revs = less petrol. But it all comes down to what stress the engine is under. Im finding that winding out the gears with very little throttle is very efficient. These cars are at home on a racetrack, their not made for plopping along at 60km/h in 5th, their engines are made to be rev'd and wound out.
  16. thanks for everybodys 2cents, givea me some more ideas! one more thing i forgot to add, i've found that staying in 3rd gear while doing 60km/h does alot better than 4th gear at 60. Most engines have it written somewhere in there ecu, what is known as a cruising speed. This speed and RPM rate is where all of the engine components work to the most postential. From what ive found (dont quote me but) 3000RPM seems to be the cruising speed for a skyline. Well my skyline anyway. And in 3rd at 60, it sits just on 3000RPM So if im crusing along a flat peice of road, ill now do 60 in 3rd instead of in 4th. I find that this eliminates any sortof engine struggle, by keeping the RPM at this rate. Also, because there is very little throttle position, so there is no/little boost or vacuum pressure being created. Saving you on fuel and making you should like your flying past! Buckets out
  17. Hey guys, When i first bought my skyline, i knew that petrol consumption would be a bit higher than what i was driving around (a mirage... and yes i know). So over the past 3/4 weeks of owning the car ive managed to decrease my fuel consumption by quite a decent amount. So here's my tips: 1: Dont hit boost (obvious, but ill explain more further down) 2: Right fuel 3: Easier driving 4: Winding out the gears 5: Using the brakes (More about caring for your car) Now, most of you guys would know that not hitting boost can save ALOT of petrol, but what some people dont know if more vacuum pressure can also alter consumption, and as probably everyone knows that a turbo runs off exhaust gas. If you for example, take off from a set of lights, and get top 60km/h in 4 or 5 seconds, you are going to be using more petrol than someone who would take 7 or 8 seconds. On that note also, winding out the gears can also save you some dosh. Alot of people tend to think lower revs = less fuel used. This may be arguable but i definitely think it doesn't. If you slowly wind out the gears to say 4500 RPM's, then due to the little amount throttle position and little amount of exhaust gas and pressure being produce, you can make it to 4500RPM without even hitting boost. Yes it will take you a little longer to get up to the speed limit, but who cares, most people take between 7 or 8 seconds to get to the speed limit. Tried to avoid stop start driving (i know this is a obvious one, but it makes a difference) Right fuel can be one of the big winners. Even thought most of us would own similar skylines, each skyline is different in the tiniest possible way. And the difference in which petrol can make a BIG DIFFERENCE. If your mates recommend Caltex's Vortex 98, then give it a go, but dont stick with it if your not gaining anything. Its a matter of finding the right petrol that your car will like, not what a mate may recommend. Find the petrol that your car likes, and it does make a significant difference. When slowing down, alot of people tend to using engine braking to do most of their braking. (that was a sh*t sentence lol) Whilst this is also arguable, this is more a tip for looking after your car. What ever way you slow down, your wearing out parts of the car. People who using engine brakng are actually wearing down their engine and gearbox. Same with using the brakes, but when you look at it, a new set of brakes is alot cheaper than a new gearbox or tranny. PLEASE NOTE: These are my own tips and tricks i have been using, and since ive bought the car to now, ive manged to drop it from 12.5L/100km to 10L/100kms. If people do disagree with what ive said then yes do please speak up, but ive taken the time to try and provide some tips for people who are trying to save some cash. Buckets out.
