  1. Thanks MD. Your post confirms my perception of you. Guys, this is my last post & viewing of this forum. I am sure I will come across some of you once I add a R35 to my garage. In the meantime I wish you great & safe motoring. Take Care, Mark
  2. Jamie has great car control…is a lot more intense vs Paul. Paul is a lot more lay back. Both are outstanding drivers. Did a drive day @ QR last year, I prefer Phillip Island due to the technical nature of it.
  3. At these level of cars GTR, GT3, GT2, etc. The impact of the driver is very significant. I have done several drive days under lease car agreements. I thought I could drive… then Paul Stokell gets behind the wheel and teaches me a thing or two. Similar experience with Jamie Whincup in the actual race car at Phillip Island last V8 round (only as a passenger this time). These guys can drive !
  4. The Carrera S is in fact a very nice drive, I hired this 997 S (PDK) in Germany a few months ago…took it for a quick spin to Switzerland for a long weekend. It does not offer the same driving experience as a GT2. Also toured the new Porsche museum & factory.
  5. Akrapovic system arrived last night. Quality looks very good. Waiting on gaskets to arrive, will then install.
  6. I mod my car’s because I enjoy the process. I regularly visit my main tuner in Seattle because again I enjoy the interaction. Who said you need to track a modified car to enjoy it. I am surprised by ignorant comments, particular given your business background. You have absolutely no idea of my automotive background.
  7. Yep you are 100% correct. OEM system works great. Most of the GT2 guys are not going aftermarket.
  8. No suspension mods in the works at the moment on the GT2. But have some new Hybrid Turbo’s in manufacture for the 996TT. UMW in Seattle is finishing them up. After the Akrapovic system is installed on the GT2. Next item on the GT2 list is an uprated pressure plate & clutch…..then possibly Secan intercoolers.
  9. Sorry will not see the track, only the occasional weekend drive.
  10. The pic as shown is the new Akaprovic system currently in transit. The system I will be replacing is the Cargraphic headers & Cats. The problem sits in several areas. 1. Quality. Welding quality (MIG) is very poor. 2. Angle between flange to Turbo vs pipe to muffler was wrong. I cut the cat in two pieces then TIG welded the cat back together at the correct angle (right hand cat only) 3. Sensor @ cat discharge set at wrong angle. Fouling against motor plate 4. Clearance between flange (Cats) to Turbo & cat not appropriate. Needed to reduce stud lengths. I do ALL my own install work with support/guidance of a local Porsche tech. I could afford to have someone do it for me, but I get more pleasure & satisfaction doing it myself (with tech support). The quality of the Akrapovic system looks to be far superior. Most of the performance gain comes with changing the cats (less back pressure) The OEM cats are either 600 or 400 cell (honestly I forget). See the difference in the pics below. And for the record. …In my working life I started as an apprentice Fitter & Turner. After gaining my trade qualification I went back to school (night school) to get an Engineering Degree and in more recent times an MBA. If I was smarter I would have stayed at school longer and taken the easier path, but that’s life. Remember money has absolutely nothing to do with happiness. Happiness (at least for me) is family, health & friends….& cars. Before removing OEM Cat(s) After removel of OEM Cat(s) OEM Cat 100 Cell Cat Poor welding, note have cut thru weld at blue mark, about to set (rotate) at correct angle & reweld.
  11. Forget the price tag. It is about people that enjoy cars.
  12. Yep, fitted up the RS Tuning ECU & Cargraphic headers & 100 cell cats. Very good performance gain since fitting the headers & cats. But not happy with the fit & workmanship. Have ordered a complete Titanium Akrapovic system, should arrive in Oz next week.
  13. Any info you are able to share would be greatly appreciated. 1. Intake temps vs hp. (What are the proven intercoolers to deliver significant reduction in temps for the 7GT2) 2. Pump gas (98) vs VP109 (What is the actual gain).
  14. re the 996TT, Kevin at UMW (Seattle, USA) did all the remapping via OBD. I used Durametric for key point data logging & we e-mailed files back & forth. From my limited search RS Tuning (Germany) had the better equipped tuning process. They use an engine out process. They use water cooling as a means to replicate 'road driving conditions'. This addresses the issue of heat sink. Like most tuners they do a lot of data logging while on the road. They have extensively tried many components under road conditions. Could a local tuner do a similar or better job? Maybe, but for the 7GT2 the larger majority source an OS tune anyway.
  15. Thanks, comments noted. Can you please post before & after dyno data from recent 997 GT2 tunes you have performed. I looked at your website but could not find any reference to Porsche tuning. Thank-you.
  16. Seat of the pants is always difficult….can feel the additional low/mid torque. But Performance Box data is the best method. Will give additional comment after cats & headers are fitted. Will check with Ben re fan capacity. If he has the cooling capacity will put it on the dyno for the hell of it.
  17. Agree custom dyno tune is the best method. But find me an Australian based tuner who can tune this thing & have the appropriate cooling capacity for a GT2 to replicate 200 kmph without inducing heat sink. What platform are you using to tune the 997 GT2? Can you please share data from previous dyno tunes. Thanks
  18. Doing the RS Tuning stage 2 as a first step. 441KW / 811NM.....will look at new Secan intercoolers later, but @ AUD 25K for two intercoolers it is very hard to justify at the moment. Will install the 100 cell cats & headers first week of 2010. If you are worried about warranty I would buy a spare ECU & have it match to the car. Yes the flash is visible to the dealer if they go looking.
  19. Last Monday Twitch went in for surgery to remove two titanium pins from this front leg. I step on his leg four months ago. Surgery was 100% successful. All looked great until Thursday am when my wife noticed he looked listless. He was taken to the emergency vet centre in Frankston then transferred to the Melbourne rabbit clinic in Hallam. X-rays showed he had developed an intestinal blockage. The family visited him before surgery @ 10.30pm. Surgery finished at 1.00am with positive signs. Twitch passed away at 4.30am. These little creatures quickly find a way into our hearts.
  20. Tell Simon to print & cut out the attached pic. Big Ben now has about 5 sets of Zipps....& about 8 new bikes. Ask Benny for one of the spare bikes. GT2 finally going again tonight. RS Tuning Germany screwed the first flash. Dashboard was like a Christmas tree with error codes.
  21. Guys, I think the thread has wandered a little. Different folks in life have different goals. Money &/or assets do not bring happiness. While interstate this week my family pet (Twitch the rabbit) passed away suddenly after emergency surgery. This beautiful rabbit gave me more happiness than any car. Yes I like many others on the forum enjoy our toys. But having a 500K car vs a 20K car is not the be- all & end-all. Enjoy Christmas with your family & friends....I will be thinking of my rabbit (Twitch on the right, his brother Toff on the left)
  22. Here you go re pic. No twisty roads yet....have only driven it about 100km before I pulled the ECU.
