  1. I can't tell you who to go to, but i can tell you NOT to go to Auto Perfection.

I unfortunately bought into the last SAU SA group buy, for two cars, the front windows of the stagea and full tint for my Chaser. Both times I was told to get there in the morning before about 10 and car would be ready by around lunch. Both times I did not get the car back until 5 or 5:30 then was palmed off some bullshit excuse that differed wildly from what I was first told, or told again when I called to see how the car was going.

The second time my wife and I spent the majority of the afternoon (4hrs+), sitting in the waiting area, listening to the pig of an owner verbally abuse his receptionist repeatedly, then whenever an angry customer arrived (we counted 5 in the time that we were there, out of about 7 customers total), he would scurry out the back, telling his receptionist that "he wasn't there", to leave her to take the beating. One poor woman who was also waiting on tint and had dropped her car off at around noon, came back just before we were leaving, to see that her car hadn't even made it into the workshop yet.

What's more, I now have a 3-4 inch long scratch on my driver's side window, pin-prick holes on the passenger side tint and the tint looks like it hasn't bonded to the rear windscreen properly. But i absolutely REFUSE to take it anywhere near them and will have nothing to do with them further.

This is my personal experience. Not my friend's friend's friend's (although I have heard those as well). If I had my time again, I would have paid the $30 or so that I saved in the group buy and gone to somewhere like instant windscreens, where they're nice, they do their job in the timeframe they specify ad you get quality work.

  2. Just remove anything obvious....when I took mine, they told me wheel spacers off and Fuel Pressure Reg, but I had bigger issues as car came from QLD and had a 'Mod Plate' for compliance in place of a 'Compliance Plate' and they refuse to recognise the mod plate...The guy at Lonsdale is a decent bloke but he works at Regency for the rest of the week so its same same...

I'd remove the ECU if you can borrow one, if its loud and cammy, def baffles in the exhaust, take the tint off the front windows atleast if its dark...by doing a few small things up front, it may save you having to go through a full inspection...dont give them the suspicion to begin with.

    ????????

mod plates and compliance plates are two totally different things. in qld, if you modify your car and it is certified by an engineer, you then get a mod plate to say that your modifications are legal. the mod plate won't be recognised down here anyway, beacuse laws surrounding modifications are different from state to state.

i've never seen or heard of a mod plate trying to be passed off as a compliance plate. something's a bit sus with your car mate and i'd be asking questions.

  3. Hi guys,

got a bit of a strange problem. Just changed the oil on the stag (was a little overdue) and filter. Had a brand new 5L bottle of oil that i put in (the whole lot now... i remember stags taking 4.7L?) and the reading on the dipstick was a little below full (3mm or so)... I took the car for a short spin around the block (400m maybe?) and now the level on the dipstick is sitting about 2mm below low... So, i got on my push bike and rode the same track that I drove the car on and there's no oil, anywhere. I gt off the bike at certain intervals and checked closely just to make sure, but there was no oil anywhere.

I can see no evidence of leaking from the sump plug, nor from the oil filter. Now with the car sitting in the garage, there is a very small pool of the old oil, but i'm pretty convinced that this is from when you take your filter off and it spills all over the front dif, then slowly leaks off.

Where else can it go? Pooling in the head and not coming back down? No warning lights are appearing on the dash. And i don't have any more 10w 30... :ermm: Think i've got a 10w40, but would rather not mix it...

Any help would be appreciated guys

  4. gave and received a wave from a nice blue M35 on Gulfview Rd on Tuesday i think. sounded veeeeerrrrry nice :)

also, got a toot from a (bayside?) blue c34 on thursday or friday morning this week just gone, when i was turning right on to sherrifs rd. sorry mate, i didn't see you until you had gone past me :P

spotted silver stag tonight in old reynella, turning onto old main south road at about 5:30.

gave ya a toot but i was in a Blue Ve SSV so you were probably confused.

that may have been me... i was in the area around then i think :)

  5. just got pulled over about 2 minutes ago for dodging the pot holes on Payneham rd, copper thought i was drunk

i'm curious, what did they say? surely it's shit them more than it would us even, because they'd be spending allll day dodging the bastards, albeit with softer suspension, but they'd still feel it.

  6. i don't image it's going to be easy, but you may be able to somehow retrofit the tiptronic setup from the C34 stagea? there are a crapload of variables though and i don't even have the slightest idea of how similar the auto-trans setups are between the c34 and v35.

  7. a big negative on boost works.. going to last like 10 mins i know but worth it to save a sucker his time, car and money!

driving home after my 100k service to the 260.... sorry mate the work experience guy looked after ur car...

    snapped BRAND new water pump

    smashed radiator

spark plugs were done up very tight by hand.... could just get them off....

stilt brake fluid all over the brembos

i learnt the hard way to stop being lazy... save ur money mate... go speak to ur local repco and get them to sort you out

another -1 for boostworx. they told my wife that the ticking noise in her CA was just normal sounds that you get in the head, over time. "don't worry about it" they said.

it was a piece of the piston floating around the chamber with a bit of the top ring... fortunately we moved to QLD about a month later. unfortuantely, we drove the sil up. it got us to qld, but that was about it.

  8. i think i know what your talking about. click on the options box on the top right just under the addreply and newtopic buttons and switch the display mode to standard. i've found if you access an sau page from google it tends to set the display mode to outline for some reason.

to the best of my knowledge, google traverses the majority of forums in lo-fi version. it displays quicker to google bots that way (posted images are displayed as links generally) and google is only really interested in caching text plus images that are in posts.

  9. got the stag done today, looks quite good! i was a little worried about if it'd look dicky with the privacy glass on the other windows, but from outside, you don't notice at all and from inside, you wouldn't notice if you weren't looking for it :miner:

  10. we had the standard suspension in ours up until a couple of weeks ago. we'd done just over 100,000km and ours were proper screwed.

when i took the suspension out, i pulled the dust boots back to have a look and in three of them the bump stops fell out in tiny pieces, in the fourth one, the bump stop had already fallen out in pieces and parts of it stuck in the spring :S

put the new coilovers in and the ride is 10000000% better. no wobbling any more. only bitch is that now the rear rim is scrubbing on the suspension on occasion. we've got aftermarket rims though, so don't fret if you've got stockies :)

  11. stageas (and i'd imagine skylines of the same era, as well) all experience a flat spot that starts around the 4000rpm mark. i haven't read all the way through his post (i'm at work), but i don't know that the second stage of the stock boost is to blame, i believe it is 100% to do with the standard tune. as for stuttering/misfiring around there, i have not yet experienced it, so can't comment.

the standard boost controller on the stagea is a relatively "dumb" unit. to the best of my knowledge (I think QWK32 will have a bit more to say on this one), the ecu flicks on the second stage of boost at the specific RPM, regardless of anything else that is happening in the engine. Apparently there is the possibility of 3 dimensional boost mapping which you can edit with Nistune, but as far as i know, the standard setup doesn't take advantage of it.

for testing purposes, i'd recommend doing the 10minute boost mod. you'll notice that the flat spot is definitely still there (it becomes especially apparently when you change near redline in first and it dumps you in the boring arse flat spot when you get into second <_<).

    edit:

i just noticed that he said it was fuel + timing. i would definitely believe that, especially considering the guys on here with NisTune have taken most of the flat spot out with a tune.

  12. nice, which coilovers did you go for? i got it done at Western Suburbs Automatics, i'd seen the name pop up a few times on SAU and when i rang the guy he knew what a stagea was and new the gearbox, so that was good enough for me lol. can't argue with the results, instant change from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd with my setup.

ended up with the BC Racing BR's, mostly to my own stupidity. not realising that the stag is A Arm and not McPherson, i saw camber tops in the pic and thought, "Hell yes! Front camber adjustment for an extra $100!"

Awesome stuff. What height do you have it set at?

pretty much stock height. the goal was to just get them in last night, haha. i've still got to lift the fmic up so that the bottom pipe doesn't stick so far out of the bottom of the car, before we decide to do anything with height. i personally want it to stay at stock height, but i think the girl has other ideas...
