  1. I had a look through into your dyno reading which appears its missing a big chunk of power band down low, the black line represent the missing figures. You've mentioned the tuner experienced some ECU faults, not sure if that is why he made it retarded. Would be a good idea to find out the cause. I've posted the ecu file for it, he can use for reference. It would be totally different to drive once every thing runs properly, also was the VCT enabled in your car?

Slowskyline would you have a reading from your current tune? or have a look at the tune on my test car. I'm pretty sure its about the same.

What do you mean by reading?

  2. yeah i get full boost 17psi according to my guage at about 4300rpm?

How come only 1000rpm of usale power if it comes on at 5k? does it drop off in the top end? Whats your limiter set at? Hmm man i dont know, my turbo seems fine for the street, easy to drive around normally and in say 3rd gear at 3krpm at WOT while its not hitting full boost, its still faster that the stock turbo that ive come from.

Nah i dont have it on me its at home, but hits 400nm at 4500 and from memory is at about 380nm at cutoff.. My tuner was really impressed. As i said it feels like it needs more revs.. 8Krpm on a stock RB25?

  3. Hey Guys

I have a few spare parts forsale after doing a upgrade..

RB25 Stock turbo - great condition. VERY minimal shaft play, done 136000km

    $300

Stock Injectors - good condition, 370cc.. only taken out cause i upgraded to 550cc

    $50

JJR Stainless Split Dump - Great condition, had on car 2 years. No damage, will come up like new with a polish.

    $200

    Standard AFM

    $50

Items available for pickup in North Sydney, or can post at buyers expense.

    Cheers

  4. i can vouch for the G3 being a fun turbo haha.. my torque curve is pretty much a flat line from 4500 too 7300 cuttoff, it doesnt let up at all.. im thinking of upping the rev limiter, the thing just wants more revs!

Very happy with the turbo, sounds great and when it comes onto boost.. wow! lol and still so drivable when not trying to go fast.. dont know what all the fuss about lag is about tbh..

  5. he was checking it to see if that was the issue.. got a call this morning, hes now replacing the clutch throw out fork he said its fairly worn.. and getting a reinforced clutch pivot ball just in case.

Still not sure why its going to the floor, he said all the hydraulics look fine, and when he blead the system the clutch felt great! he got it 2m out of the workshop and it went to the floor again.. some bearing is twisting even with the pin on it.. not sure what it is called.

  6. I have only ever seen these break on heavy twin and tripple plate clutch setups or when the clutch spring seizes. I wouldn't call them a weak link. If the people replacing clutches have properly greases the pivot ball, it should never break unless the above conditions are met.

It's likely the retaining clip for the carrier was not on properly or the pivot ball retaining clip was not on correctly

Not common unless someone didn't do it right when the clutch/ball was done the first time

Just called him again.. He put it all back together, went to go for a road test and the clutch went to the floor again :(

He doesnt really have any idea why its doing it.. he did say the piston into the slave cylinder was hard to get in again.

  7. Thanks guys, actually it wasnt broken again! Just talked to my mechanic.. he said the something about the Bearing on the clutch fork wasnt on properly.. i dont know much about gearboxes sorry. Hut he said the retaining pin was still on it.

Said hes never seen anything like it before... but im not getting charged for any of the work.

  8. Tao are those two graphs up there your exact AFR's, what your wide band reads(I read that is how trent does his tuning, writes his table to target afrs then adjust af curve to meet this)?

My car is being really weird, sometimes it will idle at 14 othertimes I see it idling at 11.1. Can you get me a similar screen dump of a SS2 target afr, what afr you actually want to see come out the exhaust pipe. You run 9's in the top end, isn't that really really low of an afr? Surely it could be a little leaner...

What AFM you got? a GENUINE Bosch Z32? Mine was doing the same thing on my tune with a copy Z32..

  9. A dud setup.... The words no one wants to hear but unfortunately it looks like these turbos we are using are very very fussy with what they need. Where would one point then? At the turbo? The exhaust? The whole damn package? I spent close to 6k for most of the gear on my car and it still isn't making the power it should...

Ive done almost everything needed to get an exact replica of the setup this turbo was made on. I'm actually making a raw 90 degree full 3" pipe right now to fit so the intake will no longer be as big of a restriction as it was. I will obviously post back again when I get it on the rollers again just to see if I can get the power I should.

My motor was tested to be healthy with nice strong consistent compression. The issue is everything attached to it lol.

Its almost tempting to return to stock, sell my parts off and go for the GTR. This is my last chance before this otherwise ill either sell it for parts or give it to my brother and get me the gtr.

what front mount have you got? should be making up a 4inch intake!

  10. Hey Guys,

What could be causing it to break again within 2 months of getting one replaced? It was replaced with a standard one, not a reinforced one, but it should not be breaking regardless in such short time.

Clutch is 18months old and is a Exceedy Heavy Duty item. No slippage.

    cheers

  11. Right, so here's my dyno graphs. Sorry about the quality, I don't have a scanner so had to use my iphone confused.gif

This is the graph from my tune on Friday. Final numbers in case you can't read them were 390rwhp@18psi; 450nm of torque at 5000rpm.

    IMG_0030-1.jpg

Going by that as well as doing some data logging, this turbo is actually quite laggy. Bit disappointed with that. The other thing that interested me is the shape of the curve. This is what my tuner attributed to the NIStune, he thinks it could be a lot smoother with a different ECU.

Then here is my graph from my dyno day yesterday:

    IMG_0031-1.jpg

The number doesn't bug me, I'm more interested in the AFR's. It looks quite rich across the whole rev-range to me; starts off at about 12.9@1650rpm, going down to 12.5@3500rpm and then 10.5 just before it comes onto full boost. Surely 11-11.5 would be just as safe and make more power?

Any advice any experienced tuners could give would be appreciated, but I apologize again for the shotty graph quality.

Why was it only taken to 6Krpm at the dyno day?

  12. about the PSI increase, it was done with a MBC, so it did bleed off to about 16psi in the top.. Pretty sure he didnt do any adjustments, just said he might need top pull some timing out.

It was making about 10rwkw more in the midrange with it turned up.

Im happy with how it runs on lowish boost for the moment, seems like a awesome tune and puts a smile on my face when it hits boost! Fast enough for me atm, if i get itchy for more power in later months i will get a EBC and up the boost that way accompanied by a tune..

    AFR's are 11.5-11.8 from 4K onwards.

  13. hmm ill give my tuner a call on Monday about the actuator but i dont know if i can cbb for the moment, as he said he doesnt tune RB25's with standard engines past 280 anyway cause of to much risk.

Its VERY impressive atm, ill get a dyno sheet up.. i did notice it does come onto boost pretty late, like 4300 at 16psi thats with slow ramp too.

but i cant drive it anyway for the moment, gotta be towed away to get the clutch pivot ball replaced

  14. it is a ATR43G3.. The engines are old mate, pumping more than nearly triple the PSI what it came out with is dangerous. My tuner isnt in the game to tune a engine to blow up in a year, i have full confidence in the tune, i was there for most of the tuning, he spent 5hrs doing it. Turbo can no doubt take 24PSI but my standard engine cant.

It didnt not ping once on the dyno and he said it was really healthy, and could make it make 300rwkw if i wanted to, but he wasnt comfortable putting his rep on the line on such an old engine. Im happy with 270 odd on low psi, the way he has made it come onto boost dosent fry the tyres in second either so far, but i havent really pushed it yet.. The power curve is verrrrrry smooth keeps making power till 7300 cutoff.

  15. Got my car finally finished, final very conservative tune ended up with 260rwkw at 15psi. My tuner didnt want to push it any further, that was with a ramp rate of 15secs. He said in shootout mode it would net about 275-280rwkw.

i only got to drive it for 100kms yesterday cause now my clutch pivot ball is broken again in my gearbox and i cant drive it!! But its SOOOO much fun, when it comes onto full boost at 4.5k in second and 3rd it throws you back till redline. Very fast :) but driving it slowly around you wouldnt know it has a big turbo, its only when u want to go and put the foot down that you notice the lag and need to throw it down 1 or two gears to get it in the sweet spot.

May need another muffler now, its very loud.

We did throw some more boost in it to see what would happen 18psi netted only a extra 3rwkw, but more midrange but he had to bring timing out of it. its 16psi and bleeds off to 15 in the top end.
