wait, between the radiator and the FMIC? i have what i believe to be an oil cooler there... i thought it was stock! geebus
Do you have an auto? Transmission cooler perhaps.
-
Will it work with the auto R34?
-
My 02 R34 has nissan.
-
-
i dont live in oz so nistune is out of the question.
Are you shitting me? NZEFI are the sole NZ agent and tuner for Nistune. I have Nistune and i'm in the Waikato.
-
hey guys,
where exactly does the boost pressure gauge in the r34 get its pressure from?
the manual says its from the circled bit in the pic below, but i unplugged it and the gauge still have a reading. any ideas?
thanks
No that's where the ecu reads the pressure from. The boost gauge sender is on the drivers side right behind the suspension strut
-
Whilst the nismo unit reads up to 1.2 bar compared to the standard gauge, it's still very difficult to get an accurate reading from.
The map sensor itself thats the sender for the boost gauge itself is reasonable accurate (watching the results on an MFD screen you can get quite accurate results against a regular boost gauge) - it's just a shame that Nissan provided a gauge that it's impossible to determine the 'real' boost level you're receiving.
Agreed. They are severely lacking in graduations on the dial.
-
True, damn that sucks I like the look of these.
Do you know if it's easy to install one where the stock gauge is at the moment in that cluster?
I really don't want a random boost gauge on my dash or anything, want to keep it as stock looking as possible.
You could get the nismo tripple gauge cluster to replace the standard unit.
-
Aftermarket turbos rarely bolt straight on without manifold, wastegate and exhaust modifications, so if you're only chasing moderate power levels then a hi flow is perfect.
-
anyone willing to check at least the part #? u can see it straight away when u pop ur bonnet.
thanks a lot guys.
Stamped on the top are these numbers. Whether they are the part numbers or not i have no idea.
SAE PA66
PA66-G30

i have a rb20det swapped s13. the setup i am needing a tune for is:
hks2535 turbo
z32 afm
sard 550cc injectors
walbro 255lph fuel pump
i will also be running 93 octane
the car starts and runs terribly rich i also have a apexi safc neo for minor corrections.
here in the states (buffalo, New york) i am having a hard time finding someone who can tune an ecu by mailorder. there is one tuning shop by me that specializes in dsm and subaru, but i would like them to be my last resort as they will have to do some costly dyno tuning in a car they dont really know.
i would like to get a good first time tune that will not require me to be sending the ecu back and forth to austrailia more than one round trip.
let me know thanks,
ken
If you get something like Nistune installed, there's a fella on here called Toshi who does a really good job.
Can be done via Email. He will send you the files and you upload them to your ECU and bingo. There will be a bit of back and forth and some road testing but it's a damn site faster than snail mail.
Is 93 the highest octane fuel available there?
-
Now you just need to send your turbo off to be hi flowed and the package will be complete.
-
Oh dear god, look at that welding! lolz

My R34 boost gauge is just like that, not like the one in the picture. Contrary to popular opinion, my one is also very accurate.
I have tested it against my PFC boost controller output on the hand controller, and on another mechanical gauge and they all read the same.
It is however very unreliable! It only works about 10% of the time!
Mines the same also, dark face, -1 to +1 and i have an 02 model. And it's accurate. Although it's been replaced by the nismo triple gauge cluster now, as it didn't read high enough.
-
its fairly loud, i got the back seat out and i can hear it just by taping the gas, i shove my head in the boot and its fairly loud, i wouldnt say its mega loud but its defently noticeable
Well it may be normal. You're probably only noticing it now because you've removed all the sound deadening between you and it. ie The aforementioned back seat.
-
hehe looks like its my fuel pump then its making fuzzy noises from it when i rev the engine? is that good or not good? lol
How much gas do you have in the tank? Some get louder when it's getting very low, gurgle and what not.
Is it really loud or just a faint buzzing noise? If it's really loud it may have come loose and is vibrating against the wall of the tank.
-
What a prick of a job. Tried blowing it out from the rear, but the guts from these fricken bugs is better than industrial strength super glue!!
Don't really want to water blast it from the front as this will push them in further and could damage the fins.
Buggered if i want to take the damn thing off every time it needs a clean out.
Lets have your best methods.
-
In the middle photo, the bolt head is right next to a black box that looks like the boost pressure sensor. should have hitachi stamped on it. It plugs in underneath, check and see if there's a nipple there for the pipe to fit onto.
Some one has probably removed it to fool the ecu into not going into Rich and retard at higher boost.
-
i wouldnt so much say its welding, to me it sounds like they are using the wrong grade alloy, or the wrong grade filler rods have been used.
edit, for a quick fix you could resin over the welds like what radiator shops do to alloy cores that have suffered electrolisis were they have split from the tubes to the header plate. perhaps it could even be electrolisis eating away at the surge tank?
So shit welding then, by a shit welder. If it was someone decent they would have used the correct materials.
-
Stupid question, but i assume you had a full tank of gas and you weren't starving the fuel pump when you went sideways lol?
-
My clutch is pretty f***ed at the moment, although I didn't think that would be a cause to the car overheating?
So I put the radiator hose back in place and topped up the radiator with water. Yet it still overheats, this time its spitting and steaming from the top radiator hose (radiator end) and also, when I hit boost, the car basically starts shaking. Whats up with that?
I mean the fan clutch.
-
Is the fan working properly? Clutch might be F#@$%D
Are you sure there's no air trapped in the system? Try bleeding it to be certain.
-
yeah the guide is for R33 RB25, wasnt sure if it was diff for neo or not
On the z32 afm above the plug should be letters or numbers.
Mine had the letters a,b,c,d,e,f.
a & f are not used.
b = 'Signal' so join it to orange/blue
c & d = 'ground' and 'signal ground', so splice them together and join them to the white/blue
e = '12v' so join it up with the black/white.
I would advise checking with a multi meter first though in case different models are wired differently.
-
There is a wiring guide above in the forced induction quick ref guide, under z32 afm install.
To get the ball rolling, this is what my neo wiring corresponded too.
Black/white: 12v
white/blue: signal ground
orange/blue: Signal

How do you know it only has the standard turbo? Could be a hi-flow. Could have an after market ECU. Does it have a standard exhaust, intercooler etc?
Time to do some poking around in the engine bay perhaps. Might find some more hidden treasure.
