My office is heading to Mt Cotton in QLD for a christmas party on the skid pan. It's a controlled slide course in a Lotus. Own car is optional. Should I take the GT-R or would it be not worth it, warranty issue and more fun in a 2WD Lotus? I'm thinking just a little play, let the staff have a play, nothing too crazy.

Will take on the advise to speak to another solicitor. Unfortunately the QLD Police thing won't work. I know 5 cops. My best friend is a cop. It is nothing to do with them. It'd be like ringing up the transport department and saying "hi, I need to book my car in for a service".

35% is bareable. Not 1000% like another poster has warned.

I spoke to 2 lawyers and they both weren't sure how to proceed. They gave some options, but neither were experts in this particular situation. I will definitely speak to another before court date. Will do defensive driving course and look at community service options. Anyone had experience with insurance costs and and bad driving history?

My friend appeared in court for one of his employees. He thought they were very reasonable when you don't try to worm your way out and willing to plead guilty. I will still consider lawyer after your comment though. I'll also stick to my plan and just go watch for a day next week or something to get a feel for how they work and how I should proceed.

I elected to appear in court. No summons date has been set yet. I will represent myself with advise before the day. I will probably go in to watch proceedings before it's my turn as well. I'm going to plead guilty on the summons day and will try to negotiate a slightly different penalty for a restricted license for work. The thing I'm still most worried about is my insurance costs. If premiums go up from 2k to something like 10k or 20k, it's not really worth me keeping the car.

R35 owner and Internet marketer here too.

Argh! My situation seems to be going from bad to worse. Thanks.

This was very interesting. I didn't realise I could become a convicted criminal. Far out! I don't care if getting section 10 still means points. It's obviously something I'll still be requesting. Kindly requesting. Begging.

I have a lot of international friends too. But the ones who live here, need to drive here. I'm not prepared to do this really. I've read that some people go to the local back packers and get a broke tourist to take a fall. Would probably work, but I'm not prepared to do this. Even though I've done wrong, my conscious is clean. I don't want to dirty it up now.

Very interesting! Thanks for your input. This is why my solicitor was hoping it wasn't a speed camera. He said it was far more difficult to plead guilty to a lessor offence when there is proof in the speed camera. He agreed with what you said when given a ticket by an Officer, but not so much when it's a speed camera. It still feels like the right approach though.

I just spoke to a traffic solicitor and he seemed to be most interested in selling his "hardship application" service for $1200 or something. Will try one more tomorrow. This is positive news. Does this also apply to speed cameras? And are you talking about your personal offences or your roll at work?

Being naughty was definitely a mistake. It's shameful. Happened so quickly and can't believe it happened to me. Regarding the 2nd mistake... I have stated that I have been caught speeding. That doesn't mean I admit I was travelling at that speed. Additionally, I'm not prepared to blatantly lie and say that "it wasn't me sir, it was him". So I don't feel there is much on here that I wouldn't share with a judge. I still think the risk has been worth the benefit of all the advice from fellow members so far.

No no, this is not similar at all. They were 2 minor offences. One was 3 points for failure to stop at redlight (got caught behind bus that stopped suddenly) Other was my fault. 72 in 60 zone. Both nearly 3 years ago. I think the repeat offender thing applies if you do something major like repeat DUI or repeat 40+. :-) It's amazing how many people have said "hey, how about I look after you car for 6 months". I'll probably just lend it to my brother for a while.
-
I just found my demerit point notice. It's not good news. There's 2 offences, just short of 3 years ago. (back when I was even dumber) They totalled 6 points. I'm in deep poo poo. This means 8 months suspension I think. I cannot believe this has happened to me. 4am. Can't sleep. Will keep you updated.

I really appreciate your story. Thank you. Shocking about your biker friend. Geez!
-
I feel that the potential benefits of sharing my story outweighs the negatives. I've had some fantastic advise on here. Besides, nearly all constables have no interest nor control over speed cameras so I'd have to be pretty unlucky for the wrong one to see this.
-
That'd be lol. Gillard will have a mutiny on her hands. Not very realistic though.
-
@Col-GTSX fantastic post. Thank you. This confirms my decision not to try to BS anyone. I'm going to hire a solicitor and try for the honest approach with a plea for a slightly reduced penalty.
-
Close. It was Mt Mee.
-
It asks me if I was the driver. If I wasn't, then I'd have to have a JP sign a statement of whom I believe was driving.
-
This is exactly why I don't feel I deserve a 6 month suspension. Unfortunately, the law will never be perfect and I understand a line has to be drawn somewhere.
-
I will find a solictor. Wish me luck! Anyone ever hired this guy? http://www.speedingfineconsultants.com/ Not a solicitor, but will tell you what to do for $300 or something like that. I don't know if his skills are up to date with modern equipment.
-
I don't plan on lying to get out of it so I think more good than harm will come out of sharing.

If you look closely, you can see it's actually a dashed line. The solid white line is for traffic heading in opposite direction. They were camped at the first overtaking section in ages. They will score many tickets there.
