  3. thanks RedR32. I was under the impression that some early model GTR's (maybe R32's??) came with non-bb turbo's then the later models were updated with ball bearing units. I know that the R32 GTS-T's came with ceramic wheels instead of steel making them frail with anything over 13-14psi.

pity about the "winding back the clock" issue.. yeh I know it's one of their favourite past times, but I hope in finding a late model GTR, it might be more "believable".

  4. Hi

am about to start shopping for a GTR this weekend :(

I understand GTR's come with T28 turbo's but not all models are ball bearing units.

Can anyone pls shed which which year models had the old school T28's and which ones came with the ball bearing versions of the T28?

Also, what sort of "flaws" should I look out for or common faults with the R33 models?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks and Happy New Year all.

    - M

  5. thanks so much guys for all the info and responses. had a good time reading through and the toughest part would be trying to work out exactly what I want the car to do for me. Coming from a 200kw wrx, I think I would still prefer the 4wd system and good streetability. but sometimes, after watching various video clips of high powered Supras, it can be hard to deny one as well at top speed

    thx again!

  6. Hi

this question has been bugging me for a while.. on a R33 GTR V-spec, I have been told that it's strictly rwd car until the rear wheels loose traction, only then the ecu switches on the front whees and it sorta becomes 4wd mode??

then I watch mpegs of GTR's on 4wd dyno's and all 4 wheels are driving the car :)

lastly, I don't know if this is a factory option or aftermarket mod, but heard that there is a switch in the cabin which allows the driver to simply switch from rwd to 4wd mode?

can someone pls clarify this.. thanks

  7. hmm.. few guys have mentioned the RX7, and although it is one of the supercars, they don't really appeal to me. weird huh?

i find the interior too cramped as I'm about 6ft and it kinda feels like the NSX interior where it would suit smaller sized guys. performance wise, very breathtaking and a mate took me for a spin on the eastern freeway and we hit 260kph in what seemed like seconds and the amazing thing is the car was stock as a rock.

I have always liked big, muscle cars like the gtr and supra, so I will stick to them. :)

  8. hmm.. wow! look, I do agree that the skyline wins hands down all over the track, 1/4mile, circuit racing, etc.. it's just that I admire the supra in it's own design and capabilities being a rwd car, for it's amazing top end power and of course the extra gear to play around with :)

as said above, the GTR was made as a straight out of the box race car whereas the supra was more of a cruiser sportscar that both do similar jobs in a different way. I guess if it was more of a daily driver and/or regular track participant, the GTR would be the one for sure, but I do enjoy the regular freeway roll-ons!! :P

    Bring on the HSV's.

  9. Hi GeneralSpeed - thx for ur response, that pretty much clears the questions in my mind. :(

I currently own a 200kw atw 98 rexy and am pretty sick of the stoplight racing :(

I want something that would give me a tremendous shove in the back that can also pull quite long in each gear as the rex hits redline too quick and I luv to rev. That being said, the supra's internals and 6spd box will do the above vey nicely for me :)

I guess high speed, top end driving is what really gets me and I believe the supra has been designed for that (taking nothing away from the GTR) . Both awesome cars and very hard choice indeed.

  10. on the subject about external bov's.. ( I have one and have been using them since my first turbo car) I have a few good friends with an R32 GTS-T and an R33 GTS-T. one has a blitz and the other has an HKS SQV Bov. Now I dunno if this is common with skyline's, but we have realised that their car's tend to have a habit of suddenly dying while driving normally! the car doesn't backfire, or run shit or anything.. just completely dies while driving.

is that a common issue for skyline's running a full atmo bov? cause the same thing happening to 2 guys in a row is sure as hell weird.

  11. But the turbos are sequential (not good more modding hence the big singles) and it is RWD only. The Getrag box is ok but not as strong as the GT-R box.

yea, that is one of the concerns. I understand that big singles are a no-no for street and only for drags which is fairly obvious as it would be an absolute pain waiting for lets say a HKS T51R turbo to spool up a few secs after the lights turn green :(

due to the popularity of the GTR, there are a host of excellent twin turbo "response" kits which give heaps better power and still maintaining driveability which is perfect.

can't really say I've seen many supra's with a decent twin turbo kit compared to a massive single blower :(

  12. i am aware that this is a skyline forum, but just had to ask and see what "biased" :( opinions I get.

I wanna compare 2 of the most hardcore cars that come from Japan - Supra TT and GTR. for arguments sake, lets say it's a R33 GTR.

No doubt the GTR and it's 4wd ability would kill the supra on launch but what I'm curious to know about both cars on track or top speed racing circuit? Lets say both cars are running 450kw @ wheels.. I am amazed at the top end pull / power of the Supraafter watching Getaway in Stockholm 2 and no doubt the GTR will reach 300kph as easily too.

As both cars are quite equally priced, I have heard that the TT Supra's come equipped with 550cc injectors and it's factory internals are good for 800bhp?? Also I love the fact that it comes with a 6spd box which is another reason for it's amazing top end power.

although the GTR is a rwd/4wd car, blistering acceleration and equipped with brembo's.. when modified to the max, I believe the extra capacity of the supra's engine will out drag the GTR in full modified trim.

of course I'll be using either one of these machines mainly for street and track, but am curious to know which one I would get the better bang for my $$$ :(

anyway, sorry for the long post, but I wanted to get other ppl's opinions on this subject. cheers!
