  1. And if nothing is done, people will continue to buy from overseas, bypassing GST and local retailers, also causing job losses.
  2. We now have an email address where we can send through examples of ripoff retail prices to the government for review. Get cracking people! "Bradbury is encouraging Australians to contact the commission with their examples at [email protected]. The final report will be sent to the government in November." 3. My copy of W40K SM from Oz Game Shop arrived on Tuesday. I paid $37 and only had to wait 6 working days from the release date. This game is seriously fun to play. I must say that the theatrical style of the opening sequence was excellent, i just wish it was longer. Definitely looking forward to see what THQ does with the first expansion pack.
  4. Anything released by THQ recently. Go check out the thread for Space Marine, i don't see anybody there expressing disappointment. And DNF is not just a letdown from peoples expectations (i personally didn't have any) but it is a complete failure in comparison to any other FPS on the market today. The game is downright boring, it is a chore just to keep going in the hope that it might get fun. This game is not just bad, it is painful. You can't justify this by saying it is really a game from 2006, the development time is completely irrelevant. You wouldn't buy a 2006 model car today at the brand new price for the 2011 equivalent, so why is it ok to do the same with a game? This game is marketed and sold as a brand new game released in 2011, therefore it should be judged by 2011 standards. If it went straight to the 'classics' bin on the day of release and sold for $15, people would not be nearly as hard on it, but it didn't. No amount of excuses or explanations can make up for the fact that this game is a complete failure in everything they set out to achieve.
  5. You will be hard pressed finding a gamer over the age of 20 who does not know that already. It is no excuse for releasing a sub-par game.
  6. It was released this year, it is not 11 years old. An 11 year old game would be freeware by now, not $90. It is in the price bracket of a brand new game, it is being marketed as a brand new game therefore it is to be compared to other brand new games.
  7. Yeah, you've exceeded my understanding of Space Marine back story now.... i'm out
  8. Not all Iquisitors deal with witches, that is just the Ordo Hereticus. The Ordo Xenos hunts aliens and there is also the Ordo Malleus but i don't recall what they specialize in. To be totally true to the story they would have been better off using Grey Knights as body guards.
  9. Difference is this is in FPS form rather than strategy.
  10. I could also see this game easily being tweaked to fit with Imperial Guard players. Imagine being a guard platoon commander in charge of a whole platoon. You order your heavy weapons teams to take up firing positions, your guards to hold the line, call in basilisk bombardments and send in wave after wave of conscripts. All the while you have Commissars littered through your squads to make sure everybody does their job right.
  11. Just look at what THQ did with Dawn Of War. If i don't see at least 4 expansion packs for this game i'll be very disappointed.
  12. Legion of the Damned would not make for a very interesting PC game. They show up, dont say a word, are strangely invincible, kill all enemies in sight then vanish. I like the idea of a kill team where you can customize their appearance. I also look forward to later versions of this game that allow you to fight more foes. Imagine the fun of pumping an entire clip of bolter ammo into a Necron Warrior, watching it finally drop, only to piece itself back together again and get back up for more
  13. Wow hey slow down there mate, let's not get too carried away now. You don't want to go saying anything you might regret later...
  14. They buy bulk battleforce packs then split them up and sell them individually.
  15. Maelstromgames.co.uk used to be a great place to buy from, till GW changed the terms and conditions that restricted UK sellers from selling to people outside the UK. If you know a good forwarder though you can get away with it. There are some good sellers on Ebay too wizardsgames (user) or RED DRAGON GAMES (store) abadd0n (user) or Abaddon's Warchest (store) It can also be cheaper to buy straight from the GW site in the USA and send them to a freight forwarder.
  16. Any time i go into the store one of the staff members always manages to corner me and lock me into a conversation about 40k for some stupid reason, then because i am too polite i go along till i can find an ethical way to bail which is at least 20 mins later. Not much need to go there these days with online stores offering far better prices on 40k models.
  17. Ill be getting it for PC And i play 40k too, i have a Necron army and an Imperial Guard army. Though i only use my Guards as Necrons suck in the current rules.
  18. Now i play the waiting game. Waiting for my order to come from OzGameShop.
  19. If the royalties make it too expensive to sell here, maybe the retailers shouldn't bother selling the item? Australia is a big enough market to make an overseas supplier think twice when its good stop being sold here. Retailers are the ones who are responsible for there being so little Australian made products left. They started importing goods to save a buck decades ago. It just seems a little rich that they are now complaining because consumers are doing the same thing as them. If retailers were asking the government for ways to help them reduce their prices to compete, i would have no problem, but they are not. They want the government to make overseas purchases more expensive, even if the method of doing so will be more costly than the money raised in the process.
  20. The lower population in Australia might have a small effect on prices, but nowhere near the 50% to 200% increase in prices that you see here. Anything more than 20% and they are pulling our leg. The royalties might even be a factor in some small cases, but still a drop in the ocean. We can both agree that the suppliers are the main problem here. In that case the retailers association should be going after them instead of campaigning to make the government force the consumer to pay more just for the sake of it. Of course the retailers are not going to do the 'right' thing because they would not want to risk the suppliers cutting them off. Again the retailers are looking out for only themselves, so why shouldn't consumers do the same? At the end of the day, Australians don't care that the retailers are crying wolf. And if your professional opinion is to be trusted, we have no reason to be worried. You said yourself it would take a lot to kill off the retailers in Australia. So we can all go on buying our products at bargain prices from overseas and ignoring Mr Gerry Harvey crying over the fact that he can no longer charge ridiculous prices because nobody is willing to pay them. :edit: And my Westfields example was not the result of a new shopping center opening down the road. I was referring to Westfields Liverpool where on the 1st of July about 25% of the stores there closed (entire sections of the place are just a sea of wooden walls). There is no new shopping mall anywhere near Liverpool, it was partially due to Westfields yearly rent rise and partly due to the fact that the lack of sales meant that a large number of stores there would struggle to pay it.
  21. I know the retailers are not the root of the problem, i never said they were. And your experience with the cost of running a retail business is not the be-all and end-all of retail, just look at places like PC Case Gear and ARC.com.au and you will see that they can afford to sell at prices which are very close to the USA. I have always maintained that in order to fix the problem we have with retail here, the suppliers need to be hurt enough financially to force them to drop their stupid mark ups. Again, you can provide all the reasoning you want, but it can't change the facts. Australian suppliers currently purchase their goods from suppliers overseas at wholesale prices, they then ship them over here in bulk. I can buy the same product from overseas at RETAIL price and ship it over here on its own, and it is still cheaper. There is no excuse for this. I don't claim to be an expert on how the retail chain is set up here in Australia, but i know enough to see that there is something wrong with that picture. We can blame the government and its tax system. We can blame suppliers and their mark ups. We can blame retailers. Frankly i don't care who is blamed. Until the issue is resolved, more Australians will buy their goods over the internet. Now if you say this is not enough to force a change in the market then i guess they will continue on their ways while more and more Australians move their shopping overseas. Maybe the retailers here will be able to sell their goods to magic pixies and imaginary friends? Who knows. One thing i do know is, Australian consumers are being taken for a ride by somebody and they are fed up with it. Now that retailers are crying foul, Australians dont give a shit. It's just that simple.
  22. You said it yourself, they base their prices on what they can get away with in Australia, not what they can afford. This is why nobody cares when the retail sector whines that it is losing profit. These companies have taken the protectionist nature of our government and abused it to their own advantage, screwing the Australian consumer. In the past they could get away with this because there was no internet shopping. The world has changed now, and their greedy business model does not fit this new world. They can either change to adapt to this new environment, or go under with the rest of the retailers who failed to adapt. Why the hell should we care? And as for your theory on economic collapse. Have you been to a Westfields lately and seen how many vacant stores there are? I really cannot see our economy falling apart just because a few thousand people lose their low paying jobs and nobody can get products from a retailer any more. Retailers are only losing out on imported items, and that's because we are now buying them online. If retailers stopped selling these items all together it would just mean more people will buy online.
  23. Duke Nukem Forever could be out-done by the original Duke Nukem 3D just by updating the graphics. I didn't pay a cent for DNF and i still feel ripped off simply because i spent the last 10 years watching the periodical hype and speculation on this bloody game. I played the original Duke Nukem 3D, i played the crap out of that game and i still think DNF is a steaming pile of rubbish.
  24. Regardless of the minimum wage, consumers are already buying from cheaper sources because of the stupid retail prices in Australia. As more and more customers ditch retailers, more retailers will go belly up. Soon suppliers will have no retailers to move their goods so down they go too. My prediction does not require any kind of revolutionary change to take place. Also, you cannot tell me that suppliers don't have any room to move with their prices, we have Australian made products selling in the USA for LESS than they sell them here, and they were made in Australia. Products that are bought from overseas for cheap, shipped here in bulk then sold in retail stores should be a buttload more competetive.
