ahh so that explains this...

What happened to gentleman Jim?
RWD porsche + very wet roads (snow) didn't give him much chance of keeping up with the GTR, but he did very well to come 3rd and if it had of been dry on the last two days he probably would have won

oh right - i thought so. Heard on the Hobart grapevine a couple weeks ago that it was now RB25 though?
The 'Hobart grapevine' isn't very reliable. I was told it has an RB20DEt, but who knows how true that is

If your going to submit a response to the government make sure you think it through and be mature about it.
There's no point sending immature rubbish, that'll only give them more reason to go ahead with the laws (if you can't be responsible on the internet, what chance have you got in a car?)
*not having a go at anyone in particular, it's just I've read some rubbish on other sites and a little bit on here (but nowhere near as much)

Mr Scully said he would accept comments on the 20-page paper from the public officially until February 28, 2005, but would implement some measures earlier if a "clear consensus" emerged.
You heard the man, tell him what you think. IN A MATURE MANNER.
(if your capable of doing so) There's not much point bitching on here.

Engine “knock” is the sound produced when a car’s air/fuel mixture is ignited by something other than the spark plug, such as a hot spot in the combustion chamber. Light knock is normal in modern engines during heavy acceleration or under other high-load conditions, such as climbing steep grades. Severe “knock” may be caused by fuel with too low an octane rating or by improper adjustment of the ignition system. This will harm the engine. “Knock” is also called “detonation” or “ping.”

yep your right' date=' I don't see why it should just be young people that have to go through strict testing and education if there is still a hell of a lot of idiotic older drivers that have bad habits that will never change unless they are taught properly and tested every now and then.
I know a few oldies that aren't aware of laws such as keep left unless overtaking in an 80km + zone, and the "zip" merge rule to name a couple. When I went through the road rule book a few years ago before going for my L's I was with my Nan, and she ended up learning a few new laws she had never heard of.
Perhaps i should have made myself clearer i wasn't talking about idiots tailgating in the right lane i was talking about idiots tailgating in the left lane or single lane just because their too stupid to realise you need a certain amount of time to stop now mattter how good your reactions or abs brakes are and a lot more room when it is wet but still they're 10mm of the other guys bumper, and keeping to the left is no revelation that rule has been out for years but it's not going to help in this circumstance is it, but so what if some wanker is in right lane when they should be in the left does that give you the right to double the equation and tailgate? NO it just means now there are two wankers in close proximity and doubling the danger, this is the sort of shit i'm talking about. [/quote']
I was merely refering to the fact that alot of older people aren't aware of many road rules, the keep left law is just an example of a law my Nan was unaware of, so settle down.

License re-testing at 5 year intervals for all drivers.

. ......He has never driven a high performance car, he has just as much chance as losing it as the 18 year old P plater if they both got into a high performance car. The loophole is that my father IS allowed to drive it and the p plater is not. Real effective law isnt it??.Your forgetting that young people (I'm not just going to say 'P' platers [i'm 18 and not on P's]) in general are more tempted to show off, 'test' out their cars and to be "fullly sic moite". there's also the peer pressure factor.
(I'm not saying you are like this, but alot are.)
Also, how about just not getting into a situation where you lose traction? Alot of the time it's preventable, but not always in emergency situations so they should be teaching emergency braking and car control skills to EVERYBODY.
.....
Also, the police need to start getting their priorites right, what's more likely to kill or injure, l.e.d. windscreen washer lights or dodgy brakes with no pad materials(or shoes) left ?? -rhetorical question-
I've never seen a cop have a look at a car's brakes, they'd prefer to defect someone for wheels that are too large for the cars instead of looking at the real (possibly) danger behind the wheels.
They also shouldn't be kicking car enthusiasts out of car parks when all they are doing is standing around talking, because as soon as the police tell them to piss off alot of people head out into the hills and go crazy, It's obvious which is more dangerous.
Oh and they need to be more consistent.

bonnet pin or hood pins?
I dunno if your post was in response to my post, but seeing as it was straight after I'll assume it was....
I wasn't talking about anything at the front of the bonnet , but at the back where it's hinged. theres a small bit of metal on each side, next to the hinges which hooks into the bonnet framework.(on alot, but not all cars)
-
think about the cost and availability of parts for it, because of it's age.
-
OEM bonnets are designed to be part of the crumple zone which spreads an impact longer over time reducing the force on the passengers.
If the bonnet is weaker, it weakens the crumple zone.
If the bonnet is stronger, it wont crumple and will go through the windscreen taking your heads off with it.
I dont see the point really but thats just me. I dont have a purple atmo venting BOV either so I guess you can tell where I am coming from.
well said. Also I've seen a few carbon fibre bonnets that don't have hinge locks/catches (can't think of their proper name). when the bonnnet is closed on most cars there is a small metal piece that sticks up into the bonnet next to the hinge mounts, if the car is in an accident they prevent the bonnet from flying back through the windscreen if the hinges fail.
some carbon fibre bonnets don't have the right holes in the underbonnnet frame work, so the catches don't do their job properly.
also, if your only after them for the wank factor I think supercheap and roughtobarn sell rolls of stick on carbon look plastic sheets like contact. :headspin:

R.I.P.
unfortunately if you make an idiotic decision the results of that split second decision wether or not to put your foot down can kill.
But, why is everyone arguing in this thread, about how to prevent these sort of fatalities?
Can't you start another one? :headspin:
-
Na wasn't me - I couldnt make it to that. I think there's another RB25DET or maybe its an RB20DET VL, with plates AVL2NV. Perhaps it was that one you saw........
It's an RB20DET from what I've been told

how about an "Ask the experts" section?
where you can ask members that work or have worked in the automotive industry in depth questions. (also members that are pro's, but don't work in the industry)
there must be a few people in the trade on here?
So, basically the same Idea as PurpleR32's but without the pressure on the one person

and was the pintara based on the u12? looks much better
yes, the front wheel drive pintara IS a U12.

Others cars are welcome on the condition they are not muzzas!
my car isnt an import, and I have no idea what a 'muzza' I guess thats the new term for bogan :alcoholic
I gues you saying that you had pulsars on your last cruise makes my car acceptable, I'll have to think about it, see if I'm free

also I should add that not all mechanics do electronic accessory installs. Just because he didnt want to do it doesnt mean hes work is bad, some mechanics like doing mechanical work you know.
There are places that are dedicated to electronic accessory installs, like auto electricians for example.... :headspin: Go to Autobarn/city motors, there prices are fantasic :slap:

I have found Dave to be nothing but helpful...Go figure.
SAME! hes a nice guy, and he knows his stuff and doesnt mind chatting about stuff to help out, he even gave me advice on something I was going to buy from another shop and fit myself, there was nothing in it for him but he didnt mind helping me out.
He is normally only working with one other guy so he may not always have the time to chat to everyone, unlike some other businesses that have service advisors that are there just to talk. He does do alot of work and is always busy.
I've never heard anything bad about him, unlike alot of other businesses around hobart, including big Prestige workshops. thAt friends and family have had work done at.
I dont like slagging businesses off but youd be suprised at what some of the stuff ive heard of happening /go wrong at certain PROfessional AUTOmotive businesses.

ive heard about this car but ive never seen one. post us a pic aye?

I read in the paper that they had centre diff problems on saturday, so that could explain the work they were doing? They also had ABS problems and were without it on Sunday (according to the Hobart Mercury)
