  1. I recently fitted a new fan clutch (Davies Craig Part No. 5265) to my R32 GTST.

When the engine is cold the fan disengages as it should but once the engine is warmed up, at normal operating temperatures, the fan is running full speed. The temperature gauge in the car is sitting slightly above half way which has always been normal for this car and under bonnet temps are fairly low.

I think the new clutch is engaging too early, but would like to test it. I assume if I put the clutch in a pot of water and heat it I should see the thermostatic spring unwind when it gets to the temperature where it engages, but what temperature should that be?

  2. Russ, I've got a greddy M spec if you want to test it. I'll measure it tomorrow, but I think it should fit. Its on my car, but as usual my car never gets driven so you're welcome to pull bits off it.

It was a fairly cheap kit so probably isn't the greatest core, I have no idea how well it flows but you could test it. If it works we can sort something out, at least until superlap.

Let me know if you want to try it.

  3. A couple of weeks ago I bought a rebuilt rb20 gearbox off ebay to replace my perfectly functional but very noisy (bearings) box. The seller couldn't find the receipt from the rebuild, so I have no idea what was done or if it was really rebuilt at all. From what he told me synchros on 3rd and 4th had been replaced and he didn't know what else had been done.

Yesterday I had the new box and a new clutch fitted. All gears select fine, but it keeps jumping out of 3rd gear. All other gears appear to be fine, but I haven't driven it much yet, so I can't be certain.

It is always while deccelarating and usually at about 3000rpm.

What could cause it to jump out of gear?

  4. I beleive you have a major misunderstanding there. Snowy's car was found to be illegal by the scruitineers. Thatcher's car (I assume you are talking about) was not. Both were taking in for detailed checks at the end of the rally. I don't know any further facts on the ATTKD car to say it was or was not legal - but don't confuse building a car to a rule (ie limited run manufacturers) with breaking the rules.

You may or may not agree with the the limited run cars being eligible, and I don't but there is no doubt they are legal under current AASA rules.

So both cars were given detailed checks at the end of the event, Snowy's car was checked against the well known specs of the R34 N1 and failed, but what was Thatcher's car checked against. Where can someone get the specs for an ATTKD? I can't find any details of ATTKD ever making a Select R SP so it would be interesting to know where the specs come from and what evidence was provided that at least 10 were made.

Ash - ATTKD = Autech, so not from the Nissan factory.

  5. Thanks to the organisers and volunteers for another great event.

A huge thanks to Russ for loaning me his car for the day and to all who help diagnose and offered to help fix my clutch problem.
