from what i've seen the only major differances are that the rb20 and rb25 boxes have double synchros on some gears whereas both vl boxes are all single synchro.
The R33 box has double synchros in the first/second gears.
The tolarances in the box are alot tighter than in the MX7 box.

I have SF-DIS-005.(series 2 R33)
Here's what it says on the box.

The engine and head in question is an rb25 head/30block.
The head is off a R33 RB25DET and has VCT.
1. Can I use GTR solid lifters replacing the RB25 hydraulic lifters?I would be using cams to suit solid lifters of coz, I assume I would need the GTR followers too.
TOMEI lists different ones for the 25 and 26. http://www.tomei-p.co.jp/_2003web-catalogu...r_engindex.html
This looks like an expensive exercise.
2. Are VG30 and CA18 lifters hydraulic as standard?.

7500 is cool but 7 would be even more safe!!!
It's been said before that you don't need to rev it to make power.
I'm using a 25head with a GT35R (.82 housing)rated at 700 hp. The power is expected to drop around the 6400-6800 rpm mark so revving it past 7k is pointless.

I picked mine up today and I am happy with the quality.
Everything is as darrinspencer said, ring gear etc...
I won't be able to tell you guys how its goes on my motor yet,an RB30DET as I am still building it.
-
Thats my concern, you hear all the Nizpro guys producing great figures and doign great times, but are the engines hand grenades, are they durable etc. Ppl have a tendency to keep to themselves when they have a failure
This comment has got me thinking...
We hear of lots of people building these motors but not many who have been driving for some time.
I have heard of people who had these engines (rb30det) but wont say why the engine no longer exists.
SK has stated in the past that the R32 GTR oil pumps tend to fail with hi rpms and rb30's have trouble with oil temp.
Is there anything else we should know? I don't want to have to learn the hard way after spending the $$$.

I used a Sub Zero style cylindrical plenum on top of the standard lower inlet manifold of the RB25DE top end that we used.
I have been looking for pics and info on the sub zero plenom and other plenoms that bolt to the lower inlet RB25det manifold.
Anyone have pics and/or know where I can get one of these?
-
easier to chuck in a 26 though yeah?
I agree
-
It has been done in a VL before
This link may point you in the right direction.

Grex oil cooler
What are the dimensions of your one and is it alloy?.
SK in the past has mentioned that the biggest problem with oil is keeping the temperature down.
-
Im just gunna fit the grex kit ive got to cover the oil issue
Did you mean the GREX oil pump? http://www.nengun.com/product_info.php?cPa...74e49fa44e1e62b
Or is there a kit for it too?.
I'm assuming this oil pump would need the JUN adaptor.
-
I also have a question about aftermarket rods.
Has anyone tried or heard feedback on Crower rods.
They make them for the rb30 http://www.modyourcar.com.au/product_info....roducts_id=3007
Also been considering Arias forged pistons. http://www.modyourcar.com.au/product_info....products_id=528
Are there any other things I should be asking in regards to the above parts?
SK- My own RB31DET has 268 inlet and 272 exhaust both with 10.5mm lift. What kind of power do these cams make?, is it ok for a daily driver?
You are no doubt aware that RB25's have hydraulic followers and that you would be limited to ~256 degree cams with ~9.2 mm lift to retain the VVT. This means no change in valve springs is neccessary. What power is possible with the above cams mentioned?.
PS: I have all the support systems etc..
-
I'm also interested.
Pictures will be added some time tommorrow.???

I have purchased a GT35R (0.82 exh housing) rated at 700hp.
The RB25DET head has the standard valve springs and valves in it.
There's no doubt the head will need new valve springs but what LBS should i be looking for?.
I intended to get all the power I can from turbo, would the head benefit from porting and to what extent would it need?, before fitting the new valve springs.
Keep in mind that the standard cams will be replaced with aftermarket ones later on along with adj cam gears.
Anyone know some good places for head work in the gold coast/brisbane area?
-
We use Iskenderian.
How much and where can they be bought from?.
What valve springs would be best for 600 hp at the flywheel with an r33 rb25det head?.
-
Has anyone seen/know of structural problems (twisting etc..)with 300rwkw+ rb30det's ?
-
Would it be better to go for a 3.5 inch exhaust or bigger over the 3inch if my rb30det is making around 500hp@the fly?
-
I'm assuming urs is an rb25?
-
that's the only thing this side of the firewall grommet that would require that many wires I would think.
yes I think i will need to check the continuity of each wire from that plug to the computer, damn I hate wiring.
Thanks for the replies.
-
surely with a plug that big, there's gotta be something sitting under the dash that it would connect to. it would have to be obvious i would have thought.
Like I said the engine loom is not going into a skyline so I dont have the other end of the plug.
this could possibly be wiring for the aircon, speedo and dash related stuff?????
-
See attachment.
It's a r33 rb25det auto loom.
I've been sorting what what wire is what but im stumped as to what the white plug is for.
PS: the loom is not going into a skyline so i won't need all the wiring.

Hi guys,
Does anyone know where I can find the manual for the powerfc for a r33 gtst and also the manual for the controller.
I've searched the net only to find the civic powerfc manual and the rx7 controller manual, which i assume would be the same for every controller.

Skyrine Dave:
I'll be using aftermarket rods as i'm chasing around the same power as you, while being a daily driver.
It's better to invest a little more for peace of mind knowing that I will be wanting more power and trying to squeeze that little bit more out of it sooner or later.
Thanks for the advise on the turbo supplier, i went to MTQ engines in brisbane and they quoted me $2070 for a 600 hp rated GT3040.
I'll be picking this up on wednesday.

Vl's ended production in early 88 and some of them used the series 2 blocks.
I would assume the 91 rb30 would be a series 2, unless someone can correct me.

That's a fairly large oil cooler, it's almost as wide as my intercooler.
I'm interested but still deciding...
Where are you located?
