  1. Hi guys,

I am pleased to inform you all the dates for the 2008 Tasmanian Drift Series have been finalised and can now be released to the public. After a successful inaugural year the Tasmanian Drift Series is back bigger and better in 2008. The biggest step forward for the series this year is it is now a true state series, compromising of rounds at both tracks at opposite ends of the state.

2007 Tasmanian Drift Series champion Simon House will have to fight hard this year to defend his crown with an ever growing list of drivers and teams improving their cars and teams to newfound heights. If you are a mainland driver interested in attending one or all rounds of the Tasmanian Drift Series feel free to contact myself via email at [email protected] or simply via PM if you would like further details. Accommodation for mainland competitors can always be supplied by a number of drifters volunteering their premises and other assistance can be provided if required.

    Cheers

    Ben Purtell

    Committee Leader of Drifting Tasmania

  3. This day will run exactly like the other drift practice days in Tasmania. IE: Is NOT run as a CAMS event, thus not requiring the usual requirements such as a CAMS level 2 licence, pass CAMS scrutineers etc etc.

    WHERE: Baskerville Raceway

    WHEN: Saturday, November 17

    TIME: 10-4

To make it clear this is NOT a competition, there will be no top 16, no judging just everyone going out and improving their drifting techniques on the track. Passengers WILL NOT BE allowed.

Practice will be in the form of single car runs ONLY (ie. no tandems). Tandems are not allowed due to track insurance reasons. Basically there would be no insurance should two cars be drifting in tandem, because of this it is single runs only.

There will be a drivers briefing at 9:45AM. ALL DRIVERS wanting to drive MUST attend this briefing before heading out on track.

Throughout the duration of the event there will be NO CARS allowed across the track UNLESS there is an emergency OR a valid exemption (which must be approved by a committee member before the gates will be opened).

There will be 30 minutes at the end of the day designated for all drivers to assist in sweeping the track surface and edges to return it to an acceptable condition. ALL DRIVERS MUST PARTICIPATE IN THE SWEEPING OF THE TRACK!

    REQUIREMENTS:

The entry fee for this practice day is the same as it would be if you were going out to do some practice laps, which is $55 IF you are a member of a Motorsport Tasmania & CAMS affiliated car club such as the Hobart Sport Car Club or the Light Car Club of Tasmania. IF you are not a member of such club the fee will be $115.

The fees are to be paid on the day.

    SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:

    ADR approved helmet

    long sleeve shirt (flame retardant)

    long pants (flame retardant)

appropriate foot ware (doesn't have to be race boots or cover the ankle)

and a general road/track worthy car

NOTE- (IF THE REQUIREMENTS IN BOLD ARE NOT ADHERED TO A ONE WARNING SYSTEM WILL BE IN PLACE SO ONE WARNING THEN YOU'RE OUT OF ACTION FOR THE REST OF THE DAY)

The following safety items are recommended, but not 100% required:

    fire extinguisher and metal bracket

    battery and tow indicator (stickers)

    secondary bonnet restraint

ANY competitor will/can be asked to leave the track if found not following instructions of the day or doing the wrong thing that would danger themselves and others.

This can and will result in the person being banned from the track and future days.

For further details or clarification of anything written in this thread feel free to PM me.

    Cheers.

    Ben

PLEASE NOTE- IF YOU DO NOT ASSIST IN THE SWEEPING OF THE TRACK AT THE END OF THE DAY AND ARE NOT GIVEN AN EXEMPTION TO DO SO THEN YOU WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE NEXT PRACTICE DAY.

UPDATE: TYRE FITTER IS CONFIRMED. WILL BE IN ATTENDANCE FROM 9:30AM ON THE DAY.

PLEASE SUPPORT HIM AND HE WILL CONTINUE TO SUPPORT US.

    Same prices as always.

  4. As title states. Purchased them off Stu Benson off this site a few months ago, found a pair of rims i want so two of these have to go. Few stone chips here and there etc etc Will leave two tyres on them that have a few laps left in them, not legal though.

Sizes are 17x9 +30 so perfect for drift rims or 5 stud silvias etc

    NOT Negotiable on price.

Postage is extra. Would prefer local sale though.

    Cheers.

    Ben

After a massive year of drifting throughout Tasmania and Victoria, and with the preparations for Drift Challenge in December well underway, here is a small video Nick and myself from GT Garage have pieced together. The video displays a small sample of my driving abilities with out and in car footage from events this year. The video also showcases the the large scale change the car has undertaken since the vehicles purchase in almost 100% stock form in June 2004 to its current guise as a dedicated drift car.

Please feel free to click on the link below to view the video:

I would like to thank the following businesses for their ongoing support:

    - Tasmanian Mobile Mechanics

    - Highway Crash Repairs

    - La Bella Pizzeria

    - Federal Tyres / Goodyear Hobart

Without their help over the past year I would not have been able to achieve what I have achieved.

I would also like to thank the following for providing footage and photographs for the video:

    - Adam Sutton (www.agsphotos.com)

    - Alec (Nova Photography)

    - Heavy Hamilton

Lastly a big thank you to my business partner Nick for the production of the video and the tuning of the car.

The car will be competing at Drift Challenge in December 16 at Calder Park Raceway, which will be arguably the biggest drift event ever held in Australian drifting history. If your business is interested in using the vehicle as a means to promote your brand name feel free to contact myself on 0408782632, via email at [email protected] or simply send a PM on this site to obtain a copy of my personal drifting portfolio.

  6. The early entry fee of $135 finishes this week on the 19th, if entries are received after that the entry fee will be $160.

PLEASE get your entries in early people, we need them to be able to finalise sticker packs, program etc etc

Don't forget also the event is THIS Sunday coming, the 23rd of September.

Hope to see you all there.

    Ben

  7. Was a good day. I got down to a 1:01.9, the new tyres only dropped 1 sec off my best time (1:02.94), but i was conistently under it all day. The marshels on the hairpin talked to me at the end of the day, and said they couldn't believe how late i could brake (always nice to hear). The black hats on my DBA 5000 series are almost white now, so i must of given them a hard time.

Poor Paul had to go home early (R33 GT-R) cause his catch can blew oil all over the engine bay and windscreen. Apparently if you run a return to the sump, you have to put a 1 way valve in to stop the pressure in the sump blowing all the oil out.

Congrats on the time Ben :(.

Big brakes + power at Symmons certainly works :P. Anymore super sprints or club days at Symmons before the end of the year? Wouldnt mind trying to blow up the SR down the back straight :nyaanyaa: wont die at Baskerville.

  8. The Hobart Sporting Car Club and JDS Auto Imports are proud to bring you Round 3 of the 2007 JDS Auto Imports Tasmanian Drift Series, the final round of the 2007 series. With less than 100 points separating the top few drivers the series is wide open, and with a maximum of 500 points on offer for the round the series could go to any of the top half dozen drivers pending some luck falls their way. This is the final chance for people to come along and watch the state's best drifters battle one another in competition format for the year, so bring your mates along to watch Tasmania's finest battle it out for the 2007 State Series crown.

  10. Sorry Tim didnt mean to come across like i was having a go or a whinge. Just went out there to try and prove a few things, thats what the post was more about than anything written in this thread previously. Yep we are gaining more respect from people overall, and as you say there will always be those against.

As for the comment about your car if its the car im thinking of i saw footage of it from the Collinsvale hillclimb and it certainly seemed as though it had more power than most rex's ive seen down here on any level. Was impressive :). How's your gearbox? :P

Ben (sav_man)- Yep thats a normal response from misinformed idiots. Cant win with some people...

Nigel- Should see when i drive the 180 on the street, it's a magnet for Police cars .

  11. Excuse my being a bit slow - Tas_180 is Ben G? Ex Liberty, pulled over to chat when I had the GT parked near the Botanical Gardens?

    Tim.

    *insert arrogant comments here* :D

That would be Ben Garlic you're referring to Tim.

As the others have said i drive a 180sx that is set up as a drift car, but took it out last weekend to see how far off i am from my old man's 20+ year old lap record of 59 flat(ish). Didnt change a thing other than soften the rear dampers up to try and get a bit more rear traction, but the tyres still werent anywhere near up to the task . Ill be back soon enough, have some 235/40/18 Direzza's now thanks to sav_man (thanks Ben :)) so i just need to get some better pads all round then ill try and go lower again.

    Just goes to show that:

    a) drift cars arent the stereotypical pieces of shit they are made out to be down here, as the look on everyones faces when my time was read out at the end of the day proved. I really enjoyed putting a lot of people back in their box last weekend, not to be arrogant but to try and win a bit of respect back for us drifters. Im sick to death of us being used as scapegoats for everything that happens so i thought what better way to improve our reputation than to beat a few circuit boys at their own game.

    b) drift car suspension setups arent actually THAT dissimilar to a circuit setup. Sure it's not optimum for timed laps, but with some decent rear tyres it would be much much better.

You would be the Tim with the bullshit fast rex correct?

  12. I didn't go but it seems that GT-R is starting to handle pretty well Rod. :D

Well done, some great times by the sound of it. Not sure I know who Tas_180 is but a great effort also!

Anyone have any official times? eg 1.01.?? (got to keep an eye on my competition ;) )

You guys entering the next hillclimb?

BTW there's an MCC super-sprint on the 19th (unless something's changed) so for those who didn't make it this time here's your chance... ;)

(I won't make this one either)

    Tim.

My best lap was hand timed by the HSCC as 61.7 and by the old girl as 61.6. Rod was around 61 flat from memory.

My car will get smashed to pieces if i enter most hillclimbs. Dont plan on raising the car so dont think ill be seeing many hillclimbs anytime soon.

Wont be out next weekend either, car needs some TLC before it moves again.

  13. I had a good day once i got there, the track is completly diferent to Symmonds, but heaps of fun.

I somehow managed to get driver of the day, pretty stoked with that. And the other Ben (tas_180) got best drifter who drove of the day.

Thanks again for those tyres Ben, hopefully i can get them on the rear and allow me to use more than 1mm of throttle out of every corner ;).

For someone who hadnt driven on the track before you picked up the lines very quickly, you definately deserved that trophy mate. Racing against Rod's GTR makes me want a GTR now, damn torque monsters even in mild tune.

The pink XU1 (even though not original) would have to have been my favourite car out of the lot. MMmmm... :D
