Hi guys i was driving home on the just cruising and 100km/h and my Hicas light came on, I have a 33 gtst series 2.

What could be the problem and should i worry about it??

Whole car is standard (that i know of)

I have read alot of the other threads about this Hicas light and from what i have read it isnt anything to worry about, I jus wanted to verify this.

Thanks

i had the same issue in my R32 GTST, once i topped up the power steering fuild the light turned off. HiCAS is not cheap to fix, a guy at work with a 33 had same issue. He took the rear wheel off and found one of the Hydro lines had a tiny hole in it causeing pressure and fuild loss which turned on the light.

hope that helps

Dan

As You're probably already aware, the R33 HICAS is actuated by an electric motor, unlike the hydraulic system in the R32.

In My car, the HICAS light comes on when the speed-signal wire coming out of the speedo drops it's bundle, and there's no speed signal getting to the ECU or the HICAS box (the two elec. units downstream of the speedo on the speed wire).

On my car, sometimes the speedo AND the ECU lose signal, sometimes it's just the ECU (The AVCR I've got takes its speed signal from the ECU, so I can tell where the break in signal is) - I'm guessing it's dodgey connections inside the speedo, at the screws in the back of the instrument binnacle, which hold the speedo guts to the circuit board.

peace-out. :(

lockbar is a bar that gets installed in the rear to lock the back up.

then you can remove the hicas all together.

i removed all my hicas lines and solenoids and installed a lockbar

which means the car drives like a conventional 2 wheel steering car

if you search the forums youll find all the info you could ever want ;)

i personally hated the 4ws - especially on the track

mine wasn't even faulty and i took it out!

(so if you do actually want to keep it and need any parts ask me! lol)

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
