  1. I agree and this is a pure race car that has a very high end roll cage nearly completed in it. Otherwise i would leave them as is. Also i cant see why anyone would bother stripping a car to this level if it was for the street. Would be a horrible noisy piece of junk to drive around in.
  2. I used a 5" angle grinder to cut the bar in half. had to be very careful when cutting close to the door skin but there is a few mm grace. I then drilled out the spot welds (about 4 per end per bar) and then used a hammer and chisel to break them apart. Took me a while to do the first door whilst i worked it out but not long at all for the second one. The side intrusion bars were about 4kg per door. Cheers, Matt
  3. Thought id let you all know what the results were. The original doors complete were about 36kg. I have gutted them right out to a point where the door still should have good strength. I have managed to get them down to 15.2kg each without glass. The window weights just over 5kg. I am now going to get plastic windows made. Any idea what you reckon these should weigh? Overall im pretty happy as this will be at least a 30-35kg saving for no cost oulay but for the windows and new mirrors. As a reference Sunline quote 3.5kg for their superlight carbon doors. These would be nice but just not practicle for the budget at this stage. Anyway, if your thinking of gutting your GTR doors this is about the result you might expect. Matt
  4. Who has removed the side intrusion bars fom R34 doors? They are held in by silastic and looks like they are also held in by tack welds or something too.. Any tips would be appreciated. matt
  5. I got your joke and found it rather amusing. Chill bro.
  6. Thanks for the replies lads. I have been shopping around and found a mob called Piranah Insurance who can insure for 120k at either $1200 or $2000pa depending on what cover i want. The insurance is through CGU marine. Otherwise i am waiting to hear back from OAMPS who i found out the missus old man deals with alot through work. He is having a chat to them for me. So it looks like all should be ok. I will let you all knowhow i go for reference. Matt
  7. Hi guys, Ive just cancelled the road car insurance i have on my 34R as it is now a race only car and never gets driven on the road. I want to insure it for when its in the shed and on the trailer etc however Shannons will only insure up to 60k and want $850 per annum. 60k will hardly cover the car let alone the engine build, brakes, cage and all the other gear. So my question is are there any other options and who do you suggest? Thanks in advance Matt
  8. Hollinger is already sold.

  12. Ive been using performance box and has been great so far. Havent even started to undersand all the data logging yet but ill get there. I will be interested to see what times it spits out compared to the lap time at GSR/EVO time attack this monday. Ill keep ya posted
  13. Little bit of interesting news. Got out to Mallala last weekend for a practice day and had some success. Lack of time meant that the only changes were oil and brake fluid but it didnt seem to matter much. I ended up improving my best to attain a 1m 18.3 I ended up achieving this through two key changes. The first was hardening up the rear suspension to full hard and softening the front to 10 clicks softer than full hard. This helped the balance of the car and the understeer reduced a noticable amount. The other thing i did was get my tyre pressures even so they all came up to 36 psi hot. Not sure if this is exactly spot on but it did seem to improve. The other key change i made was the way i drove my sessions. I did 4 laps with very early braking but aggressive steering which saved the brakes but allowed the tyres to come up to temp. Then i nailed 2 fast laps with hot tyres and brakes that were in their operating range. This translated into an 18.3 and 18.4 lap one after another. I have to thank Simon from Morpowa for his advice here as i think this was the boggest factor in reducing the lap time. Anyway, thats where im at at the moment. Have Project Mu fluid to try this weekend (big thanks to Autosport and Project Mu here) and also Project Mu h16-03 pads to try. Also have new brake ducts going on so ill see how i go. Now has anyone got any idea how to beat Martin Donnan in his E85 guzzling evo10?
  14. im going and mate with 180sx
  15. hehe. that was the plan when i bought the 34. The 33 was going to be my nice road car that i could enjoy when i get the chance. However, i want the r34 to be built to the highest possible quality level and that takes time and money. In the meantime i have to keep racing because im seriously hooked. This little project is just to keep me moving forward whilst the 34 is completed. That aside i totally agree with you duncan but it isnt going to happen. i have a problem.
