  1. I'm going to willowbank on the 23rd of october 2004. I will post a slip shortly after this date.. I have had a few drags now since I got the exhaust here are the results 1) equal with VT clubsport V8 5.7 litre with cop chip -> ex pursuit car. 2) eat wrx (non sti) now!!! Had a drag from 60 to 140 by the time I got to 140 I was 4 cars infront. It had an exhaust thats all I know. Before I was equal until 140 then I started beating them. 3) twin turbo soarer 91 model with cat back exahust Im slightly quicker.. thats all for now.
  2. I can connect to your tracker IM using azureus bittorrent client. It has been working for me for 6 months now. But I just can't connect to yours. Red smiliey face for me...
  3. Did you know some oils actually have very fine metal particles in to improve the protection factor. Copper is one of them I can't remember the rest. Mobil 1 is one of those oils which contain many micro metal particals. So when you get an oil analysis report back you will probably go, WTF I thought this was good oil. So the best way to test your oil is to take a base sample from the bottle and compare it your sample. You should get a very good report from Mobil 1 atleast. My friend used to be a oil tester he found mobil 1 to be one of the best oil he had tested.
  4. Well I finally bought my exhaust. I got a fully mandrel bent 3" system with high flow cat and adjustable silencer. I bought it from ebay. I can't believe the difference it made!!!!! It has got so much more nuts. After I drove the car my hands were shaking. And the note it produced, so sweet. Not too loud but just enough to sound like a tough skyline. Now everytime I do a quick shift into 2nd gear I spin the tyres up to redline for about 2 seconds then it drops back to 5 000 and quickly get up to redline again. I just can't believe the increase!!! Then comes third -> the acceleration has gone through the roof!! Time to take it down the strip again for another run. This time I have to be in the 13s... Will post a slip! I took my friend for a run I don't know if he was jealous of just could not feel the difference but he was not impressed. Maybe because he has an old v8 bomb and the only thing that feels fast on that is the car is the sound and the shaking at 100ks an hour. There is one thing I really notice with the skyline, is that you don't get the speed sensation. E.g my friends silvia(sr20 turbo) has most of the basic mods done to it. It feels really fast. Myself and my friend were totally convinced the silvia would flog my skyline!!! But when we had a drag I shocked myself and my friends the skyline could not be beaten that easily.
  5. I was talking to a friend at work today and little did I know he used to be an engine oil tester for 5 years. Woohoo!! He got bored of the job and became a software engineer instead Well everything I wanted to know about oil was just a footstep away. So out came the questions. 1) What is the best oil to use? 2) Is synthetic better then normal oil? 3) What about additives -> slick 50 that PTFE stuff etc? 1) & 2) Mobil 1 ... Yep there you have it guys mobil 1 is the best stuff on the market it also comes at a price too!!! Why it is the best well, one of the mining companies did a test to find out which oil had the best engine protection. They used a fleet of brand new commodores for their tests and at every 1000 klms an oil check was done. What was noticed is up to ~4000ks all synthetic oils were pretty much neck and neck and the normal oils were down a little but not by much! - They were still good oils! After this time Mobil 1 pretty much had the same amount of protection for up to 10 000ks. The other oils quality slowly started degrading and more and more wear was noticed at each oil check up. 3) He did his own test with slick 50 and found it to be a waste of money!! Using synthetic oil, he found there to be the same amount of metal in the samples with and without the additive.  So I asked him what was his recommendation was when changing oil. He replied if you really want the best and have the money! Then go with Mobil 1, but personally it is not necessary unless your planning on changing the oil every 10 000ks. Otherwise buy fully synthetic oil (any will do as long as it is fully synthetic) and change you oil every 5000 klms. This will give you the optimum distant for you motor. Hope this helps some of you guys who are confused with oils and additives.
  6. Software engineer at mincom. I fix bugs all day! I'm not saying our software is buggy or anything like that
  7. I looked at your profile and I noticed you were running 9psi. So I don't think you can say your car is stock - your car was modified slightly. In my case unless my driving was better I was able to reduce my quarter mile by 0.4secs. So for the guys out there looking for the fastest real possible time in a factory condition i.e stock skyline will be mislead. But a 14.2 with only 9psi is still awesome. That time was beating skylines I saw last night that had 300 horses at the wheels - well done.
  8. I went down the track again last night in an attempt to beat my last time. Well I succesfully did but cheated a little. Instead of adjusting the tyre pressure and changing my launch revs to get a better time I raised my boost by ~2 psi. I did this by taking of the hose that goes to the solenoid and plugged in a little rod with a hole in it. Got my friends boost gauge and drilled out the hole until I reached ~9psi. Pretty dodgy but it worked. Anyway I managed to get a 1/4 mile time of 14.546 at 94.98 mph and a 60ft time of 2.146. here is the link http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/rafsland/DSC01426.jpg Im pretty happy since I beat every stat from my last run without spending a cent. I hope if I add another 2psi I can drop another 0.4s which will give me 14.1 without spending a cent.
  9. Emailed you my time slip - just for the record, here is a slip for my first drag down the strip with my stock R33 GTS-T - well it has a K&N panel filter and a heavy duty clutch.. hehehe and the dude next to me drove a commodore ss
  10. hehehe Thats what I like to hear .... When I was talking to the guy I was racing "commodore SS " he warned me to be careful about breaking a diff or somthing on the drive chain as he had done before!! But I was 99.9% sure I had nothing to worry about - after all, the skyline is the upgrade KING it was built for torture 30 runs down the track confirms it for me!!!
  11. Thanks for the input guys. it has been helpful and I really want an exhaust now!!! From the research I sifted from the crap and the real 1/4 miles times I have come up with this. I'm trying to keep it real so I can have fun and challenge myself every step of the way through my mods. how does this sound guys? A stock R33 Skyline GTS-T (when I say stock I mean absolutely nothing done to it - not even an airfilter ) with an experienced driver should get at best down the 1/4 mile a 14.8 - 14.5!!! I think the best I have read is a 14.7... Give this car a 3 inch catback exhaust and a 14.3 with 2.4 60ft is possible, so maybe a flat 14.0 with an awesome 60ft is possible Pump up the power with a dump pipe and 10psi and a 13.8 is possible! Anything extra is into the sub 13 and beyond.. Too many combinations to list!! All this talk is making me want to go the the drags and see what times I can get! Another thing that is bothering me, has anyone broken anything going down the quarter with your skyline? Assuming you have less than 250kw at the wheels.
  12. So your saying just an exhaust from the cat back and some decent airflow will drop off ~ 0.5- 0.7 secs?... Even though your 60ft was not awesome. What type of exhaust did you get?
  13. Is the "test and tune" busy on Wednesday nights? Last saturday night it took about 1.5 hours to get a run. Next time I go down the track I'll play with the tyre pressure. I'll give the 20psi a go! Do you think it is possible to get a flat 2 60ft with a stock skyline? Has it been done before?
  14. Thanks for the reply! There is another "test and tune" at willowbank in a couple of weeks. I would like to improve on my time, hopefully get it into the mid 14's .. Gee first time ever to willowbank and Im hooked, it's worse then nicotine Your saying my mph is a little low for a stock R33. My gear changes were as quick as I could possibly move my hands and I reved just before limiter, 6999. Also using BP ultimate - oh and I just changed the oil to castrol 5/30. What MPH should I be getting? At the moment I just want to concentrate on getting my stock R33 optimised - then work on that!! Has anyone found advancing the timming to improve the MPH? Maybe my timming is out a little!?!?!
  15. Well I've finally done it! I've gone down to the drag strip and took my R33 for a run. With no mods, well except for a K&N panel filter and a heavy duty clutch I managed to get a 14.9 on my first go. Searching on his forum looks like most stock skylines get between low 15s and high 14s. So atleast I know my car is doing OK. Timeslip can be found here http://www.users.bigpond.net.au/rafsland/DSC01425.jpg Now that I have the BUG to get a better time I looking to you guys for some advice. Before I start increasing my horse power I would like to be able to launch as good as I can. So what rpm do you guys find that gives you the best times and what about types pressure? My first launch I launched with about 3500 rpm. My second launch I used 5000 rpm and my time was a little worse 15.06. The track at willow bank is so grippy I thought more rpms would be a good idea
  16. I have the same problem and it seems to get worse with the colder weather. I've tried nearly everthing to erradicate this problem like - 1) clean the AFM, AFC, 2) check spark plugs, 3) check for leakages in the houses, 4) clean all electrical contacts, 5) check TPS, 6) clean the throttle body 7) Test the oxygen sensor and still no luck But there is still a few more things to check. Could be leaking fuel injectors or fuel pump - but from my reaseach in other forums it is more related to when you car is at operating temperature then you switch it off and start it up again after ~10mins and it can't idle properly for 2 mins then it becomes ok. But it is still worth trying to test. I was going to test this last week but the ony fuel pressure sensor I could find was $150. Probably cheaper to get a mechanic to test it. If anyone knows where to get one please tell me. Apparently there is a wax-up(named something like this) idle device used for cold starts. It is situated under the plenum chamber and I can just see it with a torch. Looks like a mission to access it. Anyway I read in the skylinesdownunder forums that one guy replaced his one and the car never had a cold start problem again. Something I need to try. Can anyone agree with this? My 2c of ideas
