  1. Hi

I know most of you have manual transmission, but you might know....

driving home this afternoon a warning light came on - its the "A/T" light. So, off to the "manual" I go )not a very comprehensive manual - just a few pages!!!). No mention of the "A/T" light or any other warning light!!! WTF!!!!

A/T - must be something to do with automatic transmission - maybe the AT oil? Checked that - seems like thats fine....

Have done some Internet searching, nothing really coming up - will now start searching the forum but I wanted to ask the helpful experts in the ACT first :) (that enough crawling??? :D )

    Any help/advice would be great.

I don't think you actually have the manual as they are pretty hard to come by and are hundreds of pages not just a few. Previous owner somehow got one from NZ.

Does the AT light come on for 2s and then blink for 8s when starting the car? If so that indicates that a fault has been detected and you need to get it checked.

The car can turn on that light and lock the transmission into 3rd gear and will do so if it detects a serious problem. It can also do so when "excessive wheelspin is detected". I've only ever seen that once when I was driving down the parkway with no wheelspin - go figure.

The AT is rather susceptible to faults and mine had quite a few solenoids replaced before I bought it.

  2. Hello Nathan,

I must apologise for your disturbing call from the police which would have been officer John Oliver Hawkins but the fact of the matter is that it was proven in court that I was doing approximately and no more than 90klph(''excessive speeds'') on a dual lane quiet road in Mitchell checking for pinging after having set the timing during the major service. This must be checked on the road even if I had a dyno, I don't know where he got checking the transmission from. It was proven in court that I was not speeding using video evidence taken from the police vehicle and from his witness an RTA guy that was with him and subsequently thrown out, I'm sure he didn't call you to tell you that he is a liar.

I will ring you once I get your number from work to explain why I was followed and harassed in the first place which has nothing to do with the way I drive or anyones car. All evidence is at my solicitors(he would not give me the video of the alleged offence) and you are welcome to it.

    Regards,

    John

I guess there are explanations after all.

  3. AFRs were low 10s under WOT which is too low imo. I admit he did fix some of the issues I just don't feel like it was a 100% job. It came back running less boost as asked with the same power so it was positive from that regard.

I'm pretty sure Trojan would have access to a dyno, just not sure which etc. Give John a call and ask. I found him always helpful and knowledgeable.

Trojan use Jake's Performance' dyno don't they?

NJR - Pete basically does most of his tunes a little bit rich to be on the safe side. Do you know what your AFRs were?

  4. cheers mate. can you tell me how much it cost? (pm is fine) also i'm assuming they dyno'd it?

They didn't dyno it as they didn't touch the tune at all. Car has been tuned by DTS and Autotech and not overly happy with the job either place did. DTS tune was on the car when I got it and was horrid. Peter at Autotech did a good job ironing out many of the issues but left it running far too rich (which in hindsight may probably caused by the intake/exhaust leaks).

Cost was significantly higher than for a standard 100k km service as I had a lot of labour to get the turbo exhaust gasket replaced. There was also additional costs for a new water pump and other odds and ends that you might not necessarily need replacing.

Final price was $2200 which was a little higher than what I expected. But I do have an itemised bill and all the old parts they replaced to confirm they didn't charge for work not done.

  5. Had a run along the parkway with a white R34. Pretty sure the driver is on here, just cant remember your name. Car looked awesome, especially with those eyelids. just a shame you had to see mine in its current totally-dirty state!

Thanks mate. Was admiring the dish on your rear wheels, will have to get me some new wheels some day!

  6. I have an r33/r34 one sitting in my garage that I can't fit due to the location of my boost controller. I got it off these forums about a year ago and it has sat gathering dust ever since.

You do need the stock air intake section of the factory intake to fit them though.

PM me if you are possibly interested in it for a small fee.

  7. I've also heard about Mr. Too-cool-4-U...I'm assuming he's not on here, and if he is,maybe an attitude adjustment is called for...Sauce is the 4th SAUer snubbed by this driver that I know of, assuming it's the same guy each time(hard for it not to be,really).

Actually that was me that time, apologies I had some serious business happen and I wasn't in the best state of mind. As for the other times, that wasn't me I believe. There are 3-4 white GT-Ts in Canberra now.

  8. Saw a nice black R33 series 2 (dunno if GTST/GTR or what) on Barry drive from Civic until the hospital where he turned off. Looked very tidy, debadged, with the front "S" in a very evil red :) I was in the silver R33 if u read SAU! Noone spots me

I sincerely hope that wasn't the red S badge that was recently stolen off my front bar.

  9. Definitely not safe if any of the supporting systems are stock. Although I'm surprised you didn't hit boost/fuel cut which kicks in around that level.

And if it is stock, you won't be making anymore power at 14psi than at 11-12psi because the turbo is far out of its efficiency range.

  10. white 34gtt about 30 mins ago at Belco mall, I gave a wave got nothing. So if your on here shame on you...

Sorry man, didn't even spot you til I drove past. Mate in the car told me off too, said you waved, but by then it was too late.

  11. Think I should make a suggestion. Instead of pouring all those modifications into an aging car. Save the money instead, just keep it in working order and use the money down the track a little to buy something more modern. Modding old cars is a big time sink, I wish I hadn't spent so much on my old car.

    Congrats on the ride.
