  1. Besides camera gear, I got several Crucial M4 SSD's from B&H last year for cheap. So, might want to check out if they have any others on your list or equivalent...helps if you purchase a couple items to spread the shipping costs. Although, their CPU's tend to cost more.

    Postage usually takes 6 days (to SA) with the cheaper UPS option.

  2. Drag Racer: Perfect Shift is ok but, Pro Tuner is the more refined version of the Drag Racer games

    So farking addicted to these tower defense games... like Plants vs Zombies and Fieldrunners

    Have you tried Star Defense? it's extremely addictive, has 3D worlds and was just designed to be played on multi-touch phones

  3. Have a VIP pass for both days so bit of a waste I know :( but my Mexican friend :) she'll be joining me and Fri is the only day I can show her around Syd - doing ship cruise, heliroflcopter ride and strip joints...still not as EPIC as being at Superlap though.

    Well looking forward to seeing them in action and catching up with ya. *fingers crossed* it's only a sprinkle of rain for the wkend. BTW do you know if NATSOFT will be updating times during the course of the day?

  4. I'll be sure to drop by the control tower to say 'Hi' Jess :thumbsup: will give you a call when I get there

    So is it just Ruby, Luke & myself going from SA? Anyone else heading over?

    Will be arriving Fri morning but, unfortunately only be at EC on the Satday.

  5. I have a Samsung 2443BW which is 16:10 and is still listed on PCCG, but they are phasing out.

    ATi 5870 - $500

    Honestly id say get a 24", BenQ ones are like $200-$220.

    Yeah, if going single screen a 24" or 1920x1200 (/1080) res should be your minimum for that GPU. Otherwise the ATi HD5850 will more than suffice.

  6. Hmmm can i still claim it under tax if it is purchased in the US? if so i might also have to grab me an i7 whilst I am there. Which means OF COURSE i wouldhave to ask you what would be a highly recommended mboard to go with the i7 for gaming. Asus rampage 2 has some good reviews for Oc'ing. Dam i hope i can claim it for tax (for work purposes of course:-) )

    Good question!! Anyone know the answer?

    Yeah, you can claim the depreciation on it at the converted $AU price on date of purch. Also, for those running a business they can claim the investment allowance tax break for plant purchased overseas, provided they meet the basic criteria.

  7. i dunno, say... $1500? Want to get it through my dad's work whilst the tax/rebate thingy is still kicking around

    actually, that maybe bump the budget up... it's 30% isn't it?

    FYI: Provided your dad's work turnover is less than $2million the tax break is 50% if purch before 31 Dec '09 then reduces to 30% there after till the end of next year. So, if that's any help in bumping up your budget to ~$2K, than it could be feasible for said workstation and with Quadro card.

    The other option if your IT litereate you could soft mod a gaming GPU to emulate the equivalent workstation card but afaik there's only a select few cards that have been successful (eg. Nvidia 8800 series).

  8. case = thermaltake armor +

    PSU = 1000watt corsair

    CPU = i7 920

    ram = 6GB Dominator 1600

    2 HDD's = Falcon G Skill2 (SSD's)

    vid card = EVGA GTX295 Co-Op

    mobo = EVGA X58

    water cooling gear = blocks for cpu, mobo and vid card... pump, radiator etc

    plenty good and plenty of room for later upgrades :D

    The only thing there that isn't basically the best of the best is the CPU (overclock ftw) and the Mobo... but I don't feel like spending $700 on 4 way SLI that I'll never use.

    With the exception of the case, reads as a nice build especially for O/C

  9. i got this game and had it done in under 4hrs, but i dont go online yet waiting for gt5 b4 i get betta internet :D
    Did you manage to locate all 45 intel laptops?

    Seen a couple amusing things in multi - first someone taken out by their own care package crate and secondly a whole team with riot shields managed to round-up 3 players and batter them

  10. If they're exactly the same specs (eg. 1Gb DDR2 800Mhz) there shouldn't be any issues and will operate as you had before. In regards to different sizes, yeah your assumption of improved tech and to cut costs seems practical for Kingston.

    Prior to fitting the sticks and starting you may want to select optimised settings in the BIOS screen (usually pressing F1/ F2 or DEL) and save settings. Once you've got the new memory in, re-enter the BIOS screen and go to the memory menus to check if the mobo is reading all the same specs.

    The worst things that could happen is one is faulty, or if the computer continuously beeps it means one of the sticks isn't properly seated or the latencies are different.

  11. Yeah the Wolfdale processor are great that way. mobo is a Gigabyte EP45 DS3R, performs almost on par with the EP45-extreme and only lacks the bigger NB and SB heatsinks.

    Can't believe even after 2+yrs when it comes to o/c and performance the Q6600 is still prob one of the best bang for your $$.

  12. Nothing wrong with pressure washing...if you're worried about electricals (eg. alternator, coil packs etc) cover them or don't drown them when washing. Normally anything up top (ie. cam & coil covers) you can manually clean with wet rag. To give it the finishing touch and if you can be bothered, spray silicone on the hoses and polish all visible unpainted metal surfaces :P with a metal polish (Autosol, Meguiars metal polish).

  13. BTW I just ran 3dmark06 with it at 4ghz as on the previous everest stats and improved the score to 16423 not a bad jump for no money.
    What's your GPU clock & memory clock cos the score looks higher than norm for stock HD4870 512Mb (ie. 750Mhz/900Mhz)
    running @ 3.4ghz benched 3d mark 06 and score another 2k on previous score, took a few goes to get it to book properly had to lower the FSB each time
    Nice job...now run Linpack to see how stable it is :(

    I might get back to O/C since winter is arriving...in summer I managed the E8400 (E0) @ 4.46ghz (496x9) with 1.49vcore aircooled, any higher it would crash if I tried starting up in standby mode. Also, main restriction is the mobo as it struggles to handle FSB higher than 525-530 so theoretically ~4.8Ghz (530x9) would be it's limit.
