  1. how does oil get into the air intake system? my guess would be a leak in the turbo section...

    -D

    When there's quite a bit of blow-by.

If you're going to have an atmospheric catch can set up be sure to have a suitable baffle that can absorb oil well so as to minimise the amount of oil that will layer your engine bay.

  2. If i was to remove the coilover and completely remove all the suspension components lube them up and re install will I loose any camber or toe/alignment settings?

    Any ideas?

Yeah, you'll need a re-alignment if you remove your coilovers.

I'd say it could be one of your bushes...camber, castor, or swaybar bushes.

  3. Glad I brought a smile to everyones face and glad some very decent coin was raised. I must say a thanks to PK for fronting up some serious cash, to Nene and Ness for my make up and to everyone who reached in their pockets and put money towards this cause. Sure I felt like a dick but considering the outcome it definately was worth it. Helped that everyone was such good sports too!
Was more than happy to donate some more and you did well buddy, props for following through it all.

Great to see we managed to raise a bit given the turnout, and Thanks to Madaz, Damo and Nene for all the organising and Sarah (Salvos chick) for joining us.

Currently in the mawson lakes hotel carpark.... Don't know what people look like equals fail on my behalf!
Generally not too hard to find them...they're usually the rowdiest group :D and there's always several of them sporting a SAU top.
  4. Yea mate ive done my searching. Found some cats that flow between 400CFM and 450CFM, would these be fine. There rated cells per inch are 200. But my main answer was the shape. I know i need one that flows well.
Yeah hi-flow ceramic ones are fine, some gain will be made over OEM and still good for passing emission testing but, still restrictive and if they get too hot and over time they are prone to crumbling.

Edit: Sorry, looks like atm the only EPA approved metal cat is the Metal Cat. Unsure about Catco but, have confirmed that a lightly modified Skyline it should pass emission testing, and as for Magic cat they've changed their classification for 'race use only'.

  5. Hey guys,

i'm looking to buy a new tower atm, don't really want to spend over 1g,

it's for daily use, occasion lan,

    any suggestions?

    cheers

This is a budget and O/C friendly build that I did recently for a mate for around $1K, only difference is he already had a spare case and an Intel E8400. Also, most of these prices are local pickup (NSW) :(

    Case___Coolermaster Elite 334 $60

    Mobo___Gigabyte EP45-UD3L $177

    PSU____Seasonic PSR550+ $125

    CPU____Intel E7300 $185

    GPU____ATi HD4850 $225

    RAM____2x2Gb (800mhz) G.Skill Pi $101

    HDD____Western Digital 640Gb $99

    DVD____Samsung (SATA) $27

    Total = $999

You could save a little by getting cheaper RAM, PSU, and lower spec model mobo and CPU.

  6. there is a new generation of eeepc's coming out soon called the netbooks

    http://www.news.com.au/technology/story/0,...5014239,00.html

that article is a load of shite

    EEE's >ARE< netbooks.

    -D

Did you two read the article?? :( There's no mention of the next generation Asus Eee PC, rather it was just stating that the Eee PC's was the orignator for the term "netbooks".

"The Eee PC is where the netbook buzz began and remains the lowest- cost entry point...."
  7. Steve, just checked out that GB EX58, it's 3 way, so would need 3 x 2Gb which may get expensive to go the i7 route.

Curious to know what the 1600mhz would cost?

Does your supplier issue proper tax invoices?.......otherwise no point if I can't claim the tax back.

G.Skill NQ 3x2Gb DDR3 1600mhz = ~$377(excl gst) and yes his supplier does issue non-dodgy tax invoices

  8. Seagate 1TB SATA2 HDD

FYI: in recent weeks the Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 series and primarily the 1TB (and to a lesser extent the 500/750Gb) drives have been failing at an alarming rate (ie. permanent lock-ups when booting) due to faulty firmware codes. But, don't fret Seagate has released a firmware update to rectify the problem, however, my SG 7200.11 500Gb drive of 7 months is still running fine.

If you want a better alternative and IMO currently one of the best performing $ p/Gb HDD is the Samsung Spinpoint 750Gb F1 DT/ 1Tb FDT.

  9. So something like the diagram below?

    post-11982-1232074780_thumb.jpg

    For your Home Theatre PC:

Mobo - what components you can use will be determined by your mobo (eg. Intel/ AMD; DDR2/ DDR3, PCI-E x8/ x16, SLI/ X-fire etc), also most onboard sound cards today are just as good as aftermarket ones.

CPU - at least a core 2 duo or better.

GPU - any card that supports Blu-Ray & HD movies at 1080p resolution or higher (eg. ATi Radeon HD4850), also make sure it’s capable of the resolutions to compliment your monitor.

RAM - get as much memory as you can afford (pref. 4Gb).

HDD - HD movie files take up a lot of space so, again get as much storage as you can afford (1Tb min). Also, important that you have case fans to keep the disk drives cool.

HDTV Tuner - I have & recommend the DViCO DVB-T Dual Digital 4, you can record a channel while watching other channels and it includes a HD video converter program, v/handy if you want different formats & reduces file size.

    For your Network:

You can either have a modem + wireless router or just a wireless modem router, and preferably with 802.11n or multiple wi-fi standards (eg. 802.11g / b/ n).

Wireless media player/ extender - Make sure it has the same wi-fi standard as the router and it’s DLNA compliant so it can communicate with the PS3 and other devices. Note that not all extenders enable you to surf the internet and some are limited to what you can surf, and check if you can add an external HDD to the media player to further increase your media library (eg. Media Gate media player MG-800HD, which can surf on video web sites (Youtube), d/l with uTorrent). Also, do your research on media players to make sure it will be compatible and stable with all devices you plan to connect to it (eg. LCD/ Plasma tv, sound system, blue tooth devices etc).

External HDD - depending how much network storage you want and can afford, you can get single/dual/quad bay Sata HDD enclosures to add to the media player’s memory.

Finally, the most common programs to manage your media network are Windows Media Player 11 or Tversity.

If you plan on using Windows Media Centre -> this forum should be helpful with your build.

  10. Sony makes FAAAAAR too much money to can the PS
Even so, according to recent reports -> like this one, they're expecting Sony to report a fairly large loss in their current financial year to 31 March. Despite the financial crisis and poor PS3 sales last year I highly doubt the restructuring will include shutting down their gaming division, however, their R&D department may see some cutbacks as they're the large reason for the continuing high PS3 prices.
