Hi Everyone,
I was told on my last tune that my oil pump was starting to get a bit lazy at idle, its fine when it's got some revs behind it. What are my options here, I was told to try run a thicker oil or is it worth investing in a genuine/aftermarket oil pump? What are some good oil pumps to suit an RB25DET NEO?
Current car stats: 1998 R34 GTT 300hp on 13psi
-
I got the kit for r34 from kudos Motorsport.
Thats convient I need to get a few things off them
-
Had this problem when I took my stock turbo out but I assume mine was just from old age as the bolts where the factory ones from 16 years ago. Do you have a link to where you are buying the nissan ones from as I need a set?
-
Yes I have seen it they sure know how to wreck a car on a budget.
-
I wish there was a united near me so I could run pump e85

Neos don't have forged pistons stock.
They also don't have the same lifters as a gtr
Yes, they are both solid but certainly not the same.
I stand corrected should have said like a GTR
-
Well there you go, I am aiming for 250-260rwkw so if your happy with that sort of power the 21u should be fine
-
Pretty sure the neo has solid lifters out of the GTR not pistons but if you want to run high boost your going to have to change the valve springs at some point any way.
-
There would be alot of variables involved but safely I wouldn't boost mine past 20psi but mine is standard and unopened. Listen to the tuner if he is a reputable one. Do you have forged internals?
-
If you already have a hypergear op6 highflow you might be able to get the rear housing changed over to the 21u just a thought would have to ask hypergear.
-
As you are having trouble, to make it easy just pull off the waste gate line to unlock free power mode. Factory secret.
100psi ahahahahha
-
Yes the standard soleniod will f**k your shit up if you want to adjust boost

Hey Stao,
Finally got around to fitting a 21U highflow i bought off you half a year ago as the gt2871rs finally died from track abuse lol.
Couldn't be happier with performance. Similar (and i think slightly better) response than a gt2871rs but much stronger mid and top end when on hi boost.
Final figures were 21psi for 305rwkw track friendly tune, wastegate pressure gave 270rwkw which was around 18-19psi.
Tuner mentioned he was very surprised by the turbo and impressed with the smoothness/power delivery.
I'd offer dyno printout but we tuned it on crap road tires and high boost just ended up wheelspinning on the dyno haha, causing a really jagged powerline.
Will also mention power comes on much more progressive than my old turbo, so much so that even at high boost, my car grips 2nd with no fuss and this is all on a circuit setup so camber, toe, stiffer springs/dampers etc.
Thank you
This makes me really keen to install my 21u highflow I just got
-
He already has a cat back. Hence why I just focused on the dump. Probably should have mentioned a better cat too.
My bad
-
But at the end of the day you will probably want a good free flowing exhaust too after adding a little extra boost with a split dump pipe.
-
In short yes it works 10psi all day everyday.
-
Cool, I'm guessing I'll need to mod mine a touch to suit the 2535
Can anyone confirm is 230kw is possible using stock Neo injectors and air flow meter?
Pretty sure both max out at around 220-230rwkw
-
Larger manifold/runners would reduce exhaust velocity/pressure. Good for high hp, not so much for response.
I'm now starting to consider the HyperGear 21U highflow as an option. I had the OP6 highflow previously and it was lacking slightly in response. Maybe the 21U will be a sweet middle ground.
This is 100% correct the OP6 highflow will cause a fair bit of lag, I myself just got a 21U highflow and am taking out my OP6 highflow as i want response. You will only lose about 10rwkw of top end power. Another member on here helped me make my mind up he said he had owned a skyline with a OP6 highflow and one with a 21U, on a dyno the OP6 made more power but on the street the 21U felt alot faster. Will have more info once I get mine installed and retuned

+1 for Hypergear just got my turbo yesterday in the mail so I am yet to install, but Hypergears highflows have been proven time and time again to make 250rwkw easily with the right mods on pump 98.

The best P plate car is not the one with the most power, so that you can introduce the rear of it to every gutter and front yard of every home in your street; as you live out your initial D fantasies, with your lowest common denominator skillset.
The best P plate car is the one that allows you to get off your P's with your license intact, you and your mates all still alive, and with the bare minimum of accidents due to aforementioned lack of skills.
Get something cheap, light, moderately powered and fun to drive, then spend some money actually LEARNING how to drive properly on track, so that you can make the most of a decent car; once you have matured a little and learned how to properly assess and manage risk, and the pressure of your peers.
You don't want the first mistake you make (and I promise, you will), to be your last.
I agree with the above I had an impreza on my p's and then a ke70 for my final year of my p's and then on my opens I bought my skyline. When you first get your license you do stupid things every one does.

That R34 in that blog is pretty dam nice. Also very interested in seeing the results after your tune, sounds like your on track for a nice street car.

My parents had their car wirtten off cause it needed a full respray due to a factory fault

Any update on what turbo set up you want to run yet?

In this day and age I belive the spray patteren of oversized injecotrs have proven to be fine, there are plenty of guys running 1000cc+ injectors in there rb's.

I will drop the oil and try a thicker one.
Not sure but I doubt it was the stock one as every one knows they arn't accurate.
