hello everyone all different kinds of advice here... my advice is as follows. when i was 19 i imported a non turbo Cefiro. i've had it nearly SIX YEARS. like you - i got it when i was on my P's. not because of legalities. i got the non turbo cefiro, because i wanted a mother effing cefiro. this car was nicer than ANYthing turbo going around at auction. since then - i've made it an RB20de+T (turbo'd the non turbo motor) don't listen to people saying that turbo conversions are hard. they're not. not at all. and they're DEFINITILY not expensive. now that i'm turbo. my car is fast. super duper fast. stock turbo Rb20's have very low compression, and no torque, boost kicks in late in the powerband. i personally am not a fan MY setup however. boost is on at 2,500rpm, full boost is at about 3,500/4000. it still revs out to 8 thousand, it still retains it's high compression, it has a conservatively small turbo setup using stock equipment. it's rev happy it's hyper responsive it's more torquey than rb20det you don't need to replace cams. you don't need to replace externals. just bolt on your parts and away you go. everyone will tell you "you can't do it" or "it'll cost too much money" or "it will explode the internals" i did my conversion four years ago. it cost me about a thousand dollars all up. and it didn't explode the internals. or the externals. infact it's travelled about 45,000 km as a turbo and hasn't missed a single beat. so if you want to buy a non turbo skyline. then do that. if you want to turbo it. then do that too. if you decide not to and sell the car. then do that. it's your money. imported cars are about heart. do what your heart tells you to do. if only i was your age with the choice of cars that availabe for you guys now i'd be a happy man! my advice is - don't do what ANYONE says. only ever do what James Quinn says. another thing - if you get a turbo car soon like REAL soon you might find that you will receive a grace period because you bought the car before the laws... if you buy the car as an innocent young buyer and register the car innocently within the law at the time. the law can't punish you if they decide to change their mind. check with Vicroads / RTA to confirm and make sure. but i reckon there would need to be leway good luck!

(to potential buyer) things to look out for when paying 6K ONO for a 4 door R32 i'll cut to the chase - if the seller is going 6K ONO for an R32 four door THAT HAS ALREADY GOT an RB20DET manual convert with swapped out late model interior.. in that AWESOME colour, WITH all those extra suspension, cooling, electronic and other mods!?!?! WITH twelve months registration? what the hell IS there to look out for at that price? it's a fking STEAL!!! sorry to rant here - but seller of this car? you're crazy man... you've gone to so much work with this car and it looks so nice! i cant beleive you would let it go for this price.. buyer - i know you're asking because you're concerned. but seriously??? if i was letting my car go for this price and a guy made this thread about my car - SCRUTINIZING whether or not it's a good buy at 6 grand??? i would honestly tell you to beat it.. at this price - there is no question... if you like the car.. you BUY the car. at this price .. if the motor blows up. you replace it. if there's rust in the body. you fix it. this car looks MINT at that price. i cant believe this seriously.. this thread breaks my heart. sorry for flying off the handle. but - seller? you're crazy for letting this car go for such a low price, but - it's your choice buyer - either you like the car, or you don't. at this price, no matter what goes wrong, you'll still be out in front. let's say you're at the track in three months time and the car explodes and burns in a fireball. who cares. you paid next to nothing for it. i just hope that you're not lowballing this guy lower than 6K...

i personally run rb20de+t in my cefiro.. Torquier, faster, more reponsive and more hyper than SR and rb25. Personally i wouldn't go from s13 to R32 4d. There's not enough difference, your going from one old car to another old car... That said.. Prepare to get a lot of rb20 haters, but they respond well to mods. That is all

richard - my mistake! I thought that as it wasn't ''complied'' before the 15 year rule was phased out, then he'd have no luck... If thats the case then he'd want paperwork at least showing when the car was imported!! But thanks for correcting me

WA raws. import, non-import.. should all be "looked at carefully" by our dept of transport, this V36 got rejected registration not because it was interstate, but because it was complied illegally... should never have happened, but they'd reject it over east, too! and there's nothing stopping a WA raw from complying a car like a spastic either...

^^^absolutely correct i agree with DCI being my personal pick as far as dealers go... as well as imports101 BUT silvias are a VERY old car now. no way in HELL would i be buying from a dealer. (reason being - the km are most definitely wound back, they buy cheap gnarly shit from auctions, and inflate the price to match private sales of honestly good cars! either way - private sales are the place to go for such old cars..

this is not a thread that gets "dug up" .. it's an on-going discussion point... as for the V36 debacle... it's as simple as getting the tyre placard re-printed CORRECTLY as the compliance shop made a mistake (probably unintentionally) HIDs... swap them back to normal halogen globes? it's not that hard at all! i'm just saying it's not the end of the world... and to say that interstate cars are being flagged by DPI (first of all it's dept of transport and has been for years) but to say they're being "flagged" is stupid man... that particular car had rego refused cos it has HIDs fitted without self levellers or headlights washers - same as ANY car would. not becasue it's an interstate complied car. and compliance is a FEDERAL practice. the tyres dont match an incorrect placard? that's the compliance shop making the wrong placard. can happen in WA. can happen overeast. it would be rejected ANYWHERE. not because it's an interstate car. but because it's not REGISTERABLE like that... NO state will register an incorrect tyre to what the placard states! and that's not got anything to do with interstate cars being clamped down on. it's because the car has been complied by a monkey... but that can happen in WA also. just because WA charges more doesn't mean they're all as meticulous as the work you perform, Nigel!

just sayin - RB20DE+T will CANE an SR. seriously - you have no idea how hard this thing hammers and - the autobox is absolutely awesome... as i said i really dont care if he's not interested. i really do still love this car but if he's interested i'll be happy to negotiate! manual gearbox is always doable. and an easy swap. but yeah - all advice i have is - don't write off the RB until he's driven mine... ..and don't write off autos until he's driven mine. the setup is REALLY good on it!

i honestly don't know how you guys do it? butyeah - they're a nice bunch of guys - the business owner kept telling me all about you i was like erm. kay. hahaha yeah nah that's the thing though - take the wipers off (and i have done three times) and they operate fine without the arms soon as the arms go on they just dont retract? like don't even attempt to? weird... but FYI - the green glass is SCHMICK!!!! only problem is i went to pickup my gf, she said the windshield looked incredible then got in my car and saw all the dead toodyayian bugs on it haha and no i just went up roe hwy then toodyay road all the way up - i wanted to take scenic route lovers lane trust me but i just didnt have time hey sex in toodyay hey.. i had sex in lower chittering once. i got lost on my way out. went there - it was day. had sex. came home. it was night. lower chittering things get foggy. and all the streets are "loops" and being that it's srrounded by hills, i had NO idea what way the city was. it was FREEZING that night and i had no reception to make a call, let alone use GPS to navigate my way out of there long story short, i found her house again at like 345am knocked on the door woke up her mum and had to get her to direct me out.. .. .. awkward. so embarrassing ahaha. but she understood. she'd been living there for 3 weeks and said she even regularly got lost in the day! roads condition - cou'dve been a lot worse., but in a car with coilovers and rattling mirrors. you notice it!!! only problem i found was on the way there.. there was "longitudinal" bumps (sooo... not "bumps" but more "ripples" which followed the grain of the road) which "veered" you off the road if your not careful.. not careful = distracted by the lush rolling plains and farms as far as the eye can see!!! sausage - tasted fine.. and despite a few farts i'm yet to start bleeding from my bellybutton. so toodyay passes that test. OH!!! while you're chatting to me - how do i get the smell of kangaroo piss out of my cabin??? it smells so.... "brisk" =/ seriously it stinks i probably brought it in on my shoes or some shit... kangaroos have smellier pee than goon swilling aboriginals.

another thing... never use "cheap crap" and just "slap em back together" it's when you start thinking things like "oh better get this done quickly so i can catch that episode of Becker" or "better UHUstik my lights back together so i can go to bed" think of the effort you've gone to to do this - the removal, seperating, cleaning, repairing, restoring etc... think of all that it'd be a shame if you did a rush job using "that'll do" products only to find out that they leak in about a weeks time EDIT: not saying sikaflex is cheap crap necessarilly im just saying sleep on it - spend the extra 5 bucks on a product that you KNOW will work. take your time and do it right the first time...

Hey guys (and girls) Think of this as more a WA whoretown place where we can just... chat.. and give each other oiled backrubs advice and the likes Jason as you well know i went to toodjay today - first of all, phone GPS doesn't work that good when you're on vodafone out there... so luckilly i took a three pronged stick to find my way around secondly the "auto district" is very confusing i talked to "country wide windscreens" so im looking for countrywide windscreens. do it find it? NO. so i over shot the mark by a fair bit - ended up driving into "historic toodjay" by mistake... school just got out... there were kids EVERYWHERE... all staring at my car, calling out to me smiling and making hand gestures etc, was a great feeling! then, i would down my window to see what they were saying... i've never heard a 4 year old kid tell me to "RIP A SKID YA KUNT" i laughed it off and thought "litte terror" then a first grader yelled out (seriously how the f**k does a first graders voice break? i dont know. but seriously this 6 year old sounded more gravelly than clint eastwood for real) this kid yells out OI ILL GIVE YA 5 CENTS FOR YA CAR MATE ITS A PIECE A SHIT at which stage about four more jabs where made, i started to realise that the "hand gestures" probably meant they had ear marked me for death. so i did what any scared guy would do. i went to caltex and bought a cheese sausage. (did i mention the clatex there is build out of clay and gravel? no shit. clay. and. mother. effing. gravel. anyway while at caltex i saw this BIG sign there for the panel shop. and EVEN BIGGER ONE for the tyre shop then there's an A6 piece of paper with WINDSCREENS OBRIEN TRADING AS countrywidewindscreens so i thoguht cool. time to get my shit DONE. so i went there - got locked out of the premises cos of "insurance purposes" (did i mention toodkay gets f**king ICY once 4pm hits???) anyway work got done - was ALL smiles cos of the price they charged - $330 supplied and fitted... then got in my car... they'd stuffed up my wipers (and fair enough, if you don't konw a cefiro - you don't know that they retract under the bonnet) but then the money shot. i drive with coilovers. toodjay is a bumpy ass road. they totally stuffed up my rear view mirror, the rubber connector was missing - they left the shroud off.. thing was rattling like crazy!!!! but that's all fixed now. i found the rubber connect between the seats, and the shroud was just put on by the kid so fair enough he didnt get it first go my REAL issue is (this is why i actually made the thread in the first place) is i fixed my windscreen wipers.. now - with the wiper arms OFF... (as in - JUST the bolts are there) turn wipers on.. they spin ... up, down... then switch them OFF... the go again and retract - like cefiro wipers are supposed to do... but when i put the wiper arms back on... they won't retract!!! the second i put the wiper arms back they just stay out like what a normal car does! any advice from you guys?

less chat. also. i got the arvo off cos my boss is from northam and it hit a chord with her that i was travelling out there. ps - what an amazing drive. i've NEVER seen so much grass!!!! next sedan cruise will be out to toodjay - lovers lane here we come
