  1. Hmmm.... "factory tweeter wiring harness". Can't say I've even SEEN one of those. You're implying (or saying) that the Stagea came with splits standard. I haven't even seen where those tweeters might have gone. Of course, if you're referring to the normal 6" speakers as "tweeters" then, yes, I believe I have decoded it. I have a diagram of it at home that I will post up tonight if that is indeed what you mean. Sk0pe
  2. OK, I've now replaced the head unit (pioneer in, Nakomichi out), and put a nice set of pioneer splits in the front. The previous owner had put in some nice alpine 6" two-ways in the front, so I'm putting them in the back. Can anyone tell me if the clarions I've pulled out of the rear doors are the factory speakers? Ok, here's what I found with the radio reception: When installing the head unit, I noticed a blue wire that was connected to the back of the Nakomichi, to a lead labelled "remote control". I figured that it was to start up the external amp (there are still leads from where the previous owner had an amp and a sub). I didn't hook this up when I first installed the head unit, and radio reception was JUST acceptable. My pioneer unit has a "Remote control" output, which the manual says is for triggering external amplifiers and glass antennas. I have since connected this lead to the blue wire on the loom, and now, radio reception is EXCEPTIONAL. It seems that (like modern Subies) there is a standard signal amplifier for the glass antenna, and the head unit switched this on and off thru the "remote control" connection. Maybe you guys have seen the same thing?
  3. Excellent stuff, thanks Jay!
  4. OK, now the head unit is in, it's time to pay attention to those crappy factory speakers. Looks like the front speakers have been replaced, as they have blue cones... But the rear passenger speaker is farting like a hippo on beans whenever there's the slightest bass going thru it. Thus, the rear speakers are getting replaced. Can anyone tell me how to get the door trim off? Since I'm probably going to move the front speakers to the back and put some nicer ones in the front, I need to remove both front and rear door trims. Being a clueless git, I need some piccies and/or instructions for getting the trim off. Or am I able to pull just the speaker covers off? Any help would be greatly appreciated. M
  5. Yeah. Right... Thanks for pointing that out. The ONLY positive thing I could see about the difficulties, and you have to dispel it. You are right of course, I was just happy in my own little world.
  6. All I can say is "THANK GOD for the Skylines Australia online community". I spent one hour last night trying to get the f@#!ing dash apart. Went to see a mate who pulls cars apart and puts them together for a living (he's a panel beater) today. He went "geez, don't make it obvious do they? No idea mate". Yeah, thanks buddy. Surely someone must have replaced a head unit on one of these before... Well, duh. Try the stag forums... And there it is - piccies and all. :burnout: Ok, so the upshot is, I have a Japanese Nakomichi MB-75 in-dash stacker that came with the car. Sounds sweet, 6 stacker in the dash, nice unit. BUT, it needs a frequency converter, and the whole stacker thing is not my scene anyway. So, in goes a Pioneer M5750MP. Now I've got a Nako lying around, one that cost $2000 new if you bought an aussie version. So if anyone's interested, make me an offer. Otherwise, I think I hear ebay calling my name... I've gotta say tho, it was a pretty painful experience trying to get that dash apart. On the upside, anyone who gets past the alarm is gonna have a NIGHTMARE trying to get to the head unit...
  7. Any chance of some pics SK? I 'd like to see what yours is like so I know if Carasel are doing the right thing...
  8. My stag is missing the RS Four badge from the rear. Does anyone know where I might be able to get a replacement?? I would like one... BTW: need some opinions on plates. Can you guys please vote on what you think of the options shown? Comments welcome... Poll option ST 4G EA should read ST 46 EA
  9. Picked up the Stag this morning... lovely. Dark Green Series 1, on the Central Coast NSW. What fun.
  10. Hmmm... fair question. My reasoning is that the low map, being lower boost, would be more fuel efficent. If this is a misconception, please dispel it.
  11. I am looking at different ways to integrate the high/low map switch into my driving style. One current option I am considering is a throttle position sensor (using Jaycar kit KC5377) with a 3 way override switch. It would work this way: 3 way switch position: Down = Low map Middle = Throttle position sensor auto-select Up = High map. I can then program the throttle position sensor to automatically switch between high and low map based on how far I put my foot down - plant it and it switches to high map, back off it switches to low map (only possible in an auto!!). The beauty of this is the switch-over point is completely customisable Thoughts anyone?
  12. Hmmm... sounds dodgy. :bs!: It wasn't Marathon Engineering that did yours was it? So I guess the upshot is... get one done thru Carasel?
  13. How's the tow bar hunt going SK? I'm picking my Stag up over the weekend, and will need the tow bar ASAP. So have you found someone who can make one rated to 1500+kg? Otherwise, I'll probably go to Carasel, as they're the only ones in Sydney/Central Coast I know of that can do a custom job.
  14. Well. Thank GOD the Subie is gone... Stagea will (finally) be mine! Muaahahahahaaaaaaa! It only took 8 (eight!) weeks to move the scooby-doo. Waiting for funds to clear, and hopefully will be in the Stagea early next week. FINALLY, the IEBC, G-Tech etc will be taken of the shelf, dusted off and put to good use. I cannot describe how good it feels to be on the home stretch. However, I am looking forward to feeling even better when I drive it home from the importers...
  15. Hmmmm.... I'm already itching to get into my new Stag, now I find out about all these extra gadgets! Auto headlights... does that mean the headlights automatically turn off when you turn off the car? Or is it just the light sensitive system? BTW: All that stands between me and the Stag is disposing of my Liberty wagon... so if anyone knows someone after a Subie for about $13K I've got just what they're after...

  19. From the little I understand, it seems this is actually a fully engineered conversion using an R34 front cut. This page seems to support that. However, I have seen a pic that may suggest the quarter panels and arches have just been modified/flared to match the R34 GT-R front bar and lights...

    A/F meters

I've built the Jaycar IEBC for the new Stagea (which should be arriving in Sydney today!!) and am looking at the DFA. However, you obviously need to monitor the A/F ratio. Now, looking at the meters out there, I see "wide-band" and "narrow-band" sensors/meters. Can anyone explain the difference? And which do I need? If I need the wide-band, (damn they're expensive) does anyone know where to get them cheaply, or where to hire them?
  21. Thanks for the input folks. Here's where I'm at: JCI :$1467 pa with $2000 accident or theft excess Shannons: $1666 pa (not sure of excess) Unique Car Insurance: $1466 (WILL do pay-by-month). Dawes Underwriting: $1425 (with $500 flat excess) <--- Winner so far Torque, Vigil, Suncorp, Young and Cool won't touch Stageas...
  22. I was pretty sure I had seen a thread on this before, but I can't find it now... Anyway, it seems I might have the new Stag quite a bit earlier than I thought. So a fairly pressing issue becomes comprehensive car insurance. Thus my question: Who are you insured through and what annual premium do you pay? I have only found Just Cars who will actually insure a Stag, but SURELY there are others out there...
  23. Well, it looks like I'll be ditching the boring family wagon and getting a deceptively boring-looking family wagon. (If that's too cryptic, it means I'm selling the Liberty and getting a Stagea.) I hope to have it by my birthday in mid-April. Hopefully I've done my research, and am getting a good deal. I'll have dates confirmed by the end of the week. At this stage, it looks like it'll be a dark-green '97. The G-Tech, Jaycar IEBC and DFA are ready and waiting... as are my mates with their Fozzie GT and Legacy GT-B. I can't wait, and neither can the missus, even tho she doesn't drive...
  24. Hmmm, that might make sense about the auto box. Perhaps it's from the pathfinder which also uses the attessa system. Can anyone verify that?
