  1. The fact that you guys need to pay for porn makes all the payouts justified. And if I want fireworks, I just replace my cat with a test pipe and rev the engine out before popping off the throttle
  2. The answer is no, but I'm not sure how to explain it in a pithy manner. Its going to actually be worse. If you have 2 completely separate exhaust systems (i.e. from the manifold onwards) then you're only getting half the exhaust load for each turbo, so you have to run smaller ones to make it viable, or introduce too much lag (which defeats the purpose of sequential turbos). The plumbing would be a lot easier than the bypass-ridden setup that people actually use, but you'd only run "identical twin" turbos if you were to have 2 separate systems.
  3. No idea in Sydney. I'll have to ask the guy whose car that is, since I think he did it himself. Turns out its not Z8....but that's OK. The detailing job in the second photo was done by Damian of Final Inspection (in Melbourne), who apparently does sell Zaino. More pics of the P21S job here. Pics of the first time he Zaino'ed the car here.
  4. The cross over won't necessarily decrease the volume of your 2 pipes. In most setups, the crossover point is just a part of those 2 pipes that are joined, and have their connecting wall removed. It doesn't go into one pipe as such. So your total cross sectional area is not decreased, unlike with a single pipe with the same ground clearance. The performance reason V8s do it is for scavenging, due to the firing order. With the way the exhaust pulses go down the exhaust there are benefits to having your twin pipes linked at one point.
  5. No, its not. Ever seen cars that have been detailed with Zaino Z8 (first pic) or P21S (second pic)? That's the factory paint on a 35th Anniversary 350Z. You could use that bodywork as a shaving mirror. As long as you're willing to put enough time, effort and skill into it (and I'm talking a couple of days, in the case of that Zaino pic) its not impossible on factory paint.
  6. I just realised I didn't answer your question. Coilovers aren't necessarily damper rate adjustable. Some are merely ride height adjustable, and some have no adjustment at all. As most people have said, adjustable coilovers don't necessarily soften out the ride. Most of your low to mid range coilovers only adjust the damper rebound, which doesn't affect how the suspension behaves when you first hit the bump. Only what happens after the damper compresses. That and since your spring does most of the resistance to compression, the penchant for uber-stiff spring rates that Jap coilover kits have means you won't be able to soften your ride out that much.
  7. That's nothing. I slammed the screen down on the laptop plugged into my standalone fuel management system (great way to spend 10 grand), and my checkerplate floor fell out of the passenger seat.
  8. Not a big fan of the Gorge either. Its too tight for my car. If I drove something light and nimble, or with a lot of grip and grunt, I'd enjoy it. I reckon something like an MX-5 would be great downhill on the Galston side. Or thrashing a big power Evolution up the Hornsby side. Maybe if I owned both I could park the Evo on the shoulder near the bridge, and just swap cars.
  9. The Japanese market and road conditions are a lot different to most of Australia, so they can get away with stuck stupidly high spring rates. If you lived in the metropolitan area of Canberra and didn't venture out into unsealed surfaces much, you could get away with thinking Jap coilover manufacturers weren't getting kickbacks from the Chiropractic association. I've been on racetracks that aren't as smooth as the roads in the capital. And in Japan, few people commute in their sports cars. Their idea of "streetable" and "daily driven" are far different to ours, since they don't do the mileage. Chances are if they're driving their sports car, they're driving it hard.
  10. If his "stuff" is how to fleece customers by talking a lot of crap, then yes he knows it. If I were you, I would have just backed away from the salesman slowly, smiled and nodded, and then when I cleared the doors run like hell. Stupidity has a tendency to rub off, and you don't want any of it on you. Where are you based? The "one intake mod" rule only applies in Victoria. And as for pod filters, its always a bone of contention. I've spoken to some mechanics in NSW that have passed their blue slip course and were told by their teachers that it was legal. But the cops don't, and so even if its legal you'll get defected. Better safe than sorry I say, and you'd want to box it in to keep the hot air from your engine bay for performance reasons anyway. As for the CAI, Autobarn mustn't sell them if the salesman doesn't think they're necessary. Otherwise he'd be telling you that you needed 2 or something. Saying that a CAI is unnecessary because your turbo will heat the air anyway is like saying that getting punched in the face a second time is OK because you've already been punched once. Your turbo is going to heat the intake air that passes through it. Part of this is through conductance since your turbo is running hot, and the other part is because of the gas laws that states that gas temperature and pressure are linearly related. If one goes up, so does the other. So, logically, if your air is going to be heated up and hot air is bad for performance, wouldn't it make sense to compress the coldest possible air so your resultant compressed air temperature isn't as high?
  11. I love Canberra roads. You can run your suspension with track stiffness and not need to make weekly visits to the chiro........ One of these days I'm going to have to pop the semi slicks on the car, drive to Canberra, and film my own Rendezvous one night.
  12. Just save it for the Gorge. :-) But Galston's a pretty "old" kinda place. I can see some old fart, craving attention but not knowing how to use the Internet, chucking a giant whinge because no-one cares about them. Not only are they "learning about computers", but they're also finding some way of annoying people around them. Back in my day, old folks just buggered off to the Bowlo or the Arey to play bingo and the pokies. I just don't get it with the old folk of today. But, when you move out, let us all know. I'd be quite happy to unbolt my exhaust and drive around with just the cats. Being NA, there's nothing between the manifolds and the cats to muffle the joy.
  13. My definition of a street car is a vehicle that would pass inspection by an independent engineer to be certified as ADR compliant. While I don't expect it to meet the letter of the ADRs in every respect, it would have to be the kind of car an engineer is willing to put his name and reputation to as being "road legal" (i.e. if he was the certify it and the car was taken immediately the RTA to be inspected again, the engineer wouldn't lose his authority to be an engineering signatory).
  14. That would have achieved a dream of mine (had I the money to throw at a "show" car), and building a single car that could take out Street Machine of the Year and God of Auto Salon.
  15. Rays Engineering will paint their wheels in any of their available colours if you're willing to pay for it. And you sound disappointed that your G-Games only come in 18x7.5, but you don't tell us what size you are looking for.
  16. Have you considered a Silvia-based forum like NissanSilvia.com or SilviaNSW.com? There weren't too many Skylines that shipped with CA's.
  17. I thought Greg put that worked RB26 out of his S13 into his R32 GT-R.
  18. Adding the cost of an S13 and the cost of installing a RB26DETT together would probably pay for an R32 GT-R.
  19. Shall I take your prejudices and ignorance to "know" what the majority of women are like these days?
  20. You're asking if there are events where males are excluded. Its not an opinion. Its a dictionary definition. I will, however, back you up completely with the first part of your sentence, however. Its quite clear to everyone that you don't know.......
  21. Go during the week. Fewer people usually, since people have to work.
  22. I've had occasion to use one of the old ones (not with that funky screen, but the old 1 line of alphanumeric). Very accurate. The guy I got it off had been using it on his Silvia. He ran it up on Unigroup's dyno and got a figure. He then used the GTech when leaving Unigroup, and for the "weight" input he just put in the listed weight of the car from the service manual + an estimate for his own weight in (in other words he didn't factor how much fuel, stuff in the boot and back seat, etc)...and the thing was under 10hp off the dyno measurement.
  23. At the last SAU NSW cruise, there were about a half a dozen people with those rims. I was considering them for a while too, but when I had a look at them closely I just found that they looked cheap. Nothing I can write out, but when I look at the finish and the edges of the spokes, it just says "dodgy chinese knock-off" wheel.

  25. Pfft. That's nothing. I broke a nail so I'm pulling my motor out and installing a Wartsila-Sulzer RTA96-C. Then I'm going to get myself a GFB bleed valve and wind the boost up on it.
